SCP-001 is a Thaumiel class anomaly also known as The Children.
Item-001 is the group designation for 9 human beings, ages 4-11, who gained anomalous properties as a result of Project 001: "Twins of God." Due to improper use of SCP001, resulting in the death of a high ranking staff member, termination was necessitated. As a result, SCP 001 was put into its current containment.

Killing the hard to destroy reptile would be good for the foundation but not killing the Gate Guardian. The Gate Guardian posses no threat to the world except when you get close it it. SCPs that do not need to be neutralized shouldn’t be neutralized in fear of only making things worse

If you read djkaktus' proposal 3 ouroboros cycle the way it ends, I'm pretty sure there's a part where Aaron Siegel (another O5-1) talks to someone about still hearing someone scream. That probably means that O5-1 in The Children is Aaron Sigel in The Way it Ends and he used Item 001 somehow to become the new O5-1 and talked to another Omega research member about still hearing the Children scream.
