SCP-1123 is a Safe Class anomaly also known as Atrocity Skull.
SCP1123 is a human skull missing the lower mandible and all its teeth. Across the exterior squama frontalis is modern Khmer script, written in human blood, that translates as “Remember.” Both skull and blood have been definitively dated to the 1970s, and genetic testing confirms that both are from the same individual.
When subjects touch the surface of SCP1123, they will experience a dissociative fugue state. Symptoms of the fugue persist for ninety minutes to six hours. The fugue is characterized by confusion, disorientation, and adoption of a new identity and memories which consist of knowledge, including language, previously unknown to the subject. During the fugue the subject will lose all memories of their prior identity.

This SCP was found in Cambodia in the late 1970s, when the Vietnamese Army was making an effort to defeat the Khmer Rouge regime, who is notorious for their genocide and war crimes against the Cambodian people. Khmer Rouge's killing fields was like the Nazi concentration camps, where millions died and only a few survived to tell the tale, if any do at all. It was probably created to warn the world about what atrocities humans are capable of, and why they must only be history.

I think part of the issue is the idea that bigger and badder means better. Unstoppable monster with no twist has very little in the way of narrative possibility or intrigue. The best SCPs are often the ones sort of built like a puzzle where they are only a threat if you meet a certain condition or fail to meet a certain condition they're something that even the average joe could potentially survive if they had the right information to work with.

1123 is a prime example of some pieces of the past are much more darker than we remember. Likewise, some experiences aren't as rosy or giddy as we like to think. But, said atrocity skull is a grim reminder of how the past, for every good, there is an opposite, traumatic horror. On top of that, it is just another example of how succeeding generations are motivated to be better than their predecessors, largely through peace efforts and anti-violence. Yet, there are those who seek to repeat the past all over again. If it isn't that, it's that every society, every culture that has ever existed; isn't without it's heinous side. A side everyone would very much love to forget, but can't
@Nempo13
@Nempo13 2 жыл бұрын
Everyone who is alive today, has ancestors that did dark things to others. EVERYONE. No one is owed a thing because "their ancestors suffered" because if you go farther back, their ancestors CAUSED suffering for others too. There is no one who deserves a thing for the past. It doesn't matter what color, race, sex, etc you are...you have ancestors that were horrible people. Many love to try and say that it isn't true for them, but it is. EVERYONE has ancestors that were horrible people, there is no exception to this fact.

This is probably one of the most melancholic SCPs ever conceived, if only for the fact that the memories this SCP makes a person relieve are actual real memories of real people who experienced these things in the real world. If this SCP really existed, the stories you will see/hear/feel from this SCP aren't fictional and that's the most horrifying thing of all; it's no hard-to-kill reptile or a cosmic multiversal being -- just the simple fact that these tragedies have happened and continues to happen in our world and that is something we should strive to change. Never forget these atrocities.

This is random but this SCP made me wish there was an SCP relating to Vlad the impaler cause he was such a horrifying yet fascinating individual who's shrouded in much mystery despite everything that's already know about him. I mean he's nigh on a mythical figure who has inspired some the greatest monsters in fiction and yet he has no correlating SCP?..

I love how in almost every video where an SCP Foundation member is giving an amnestic via pill, the other person just willingly swallows it no questions asked. I understand the simplification for explanation and animation's sake, but the idea of someone just like "Oh, cool, thanks -gulp- where am I?" is really funny to me.

While I'm sure the Foundation would never allow it, it'd like to think that at least one D class had a memory of someone saving their kid before death, and the kid was still alive at the time of touching the skull. So after a request from the D-class, the foundation let the D-class seek out the grown up kid and talk to them about their parent, passing on any final words or thoughts that the parent might never have had the chance to tell their kid before death.

It either shows something from a previous incarnation of the subject or it pairs the subject with a match that can be understood in order to be remembered(the skull matches the subject with the event that it is considered hardest as an impact for that person to understand and mourn). This skull is a helping hand to understand how pestilent acts affected humanity and can also give insight to inconsiderate psychopaths to awaken their emphaty while helping to give a report on certain historical data. The ancestry choosing of the skull it is choosen to tighten the connection between that cultures also thru the individual experience. An old analyzing judging spirit resides in that skull and will give a darkness to be understood and maybe analyzed by the person punished to touch it. It is the best cure for criminals as well as making them helping the humanity tribe thru their report.

Uhh... that is a huge leap of logic. You would expect some kind of pattern. Like a class D who is an arsonist experiencing being burned at the stake. Or a sex offender experiencing rape, torture, and death. From this story it seems random, except that all victims died before subjects were born.

It says you can see someone else's life through their eyes, and feel what they feel, if you touch the skull. So, does that mean that if someone who usually isn't capable of feeling empathy or guilt touches the skull, and gets the memories and emotions of someone who does feel empathy and guilt, would they suddenly be able to feel that?
