@@thebigdawgj nah, both are acceptable "try and" is more colloquial, but it's idiomatic english that's been attested literally as long as "try to", both going back to the 1600s; by some etymologists, it's possible that "try and" might even predate "try to" (keep in mind that the insistence on the importance of infinitives in english is, like prepositions only at the end of sentences, in large part a fiction constructed by grammarians in the 19th century who thought a more latin-inspired structure sounded more formal and proper, that in itself a hang-around from when french was the court language and originally introduced itself into english, relegating many germanic words and structures to a "common"/"low class" connotation as a result) famously, the lord of philology himself, JRR Tolkein, had his editor 'correct' "try and" to "try to" in Lord of the Rings, and he changed it right back and refused to let it be changed again

Many franchises have moments where it is suddenly revealed that the events prior didn't matter because it was "all just a dream". Few have moments where the events prior didn't matter because it was NOT a dream. My theory the foundation would be re-created solely from the reader's memories in a 3rd reality. The reader will find themselves in a 2nd reality, one where the foundation never existed, one where hopefully they can learn some clue to defeating the perfect predator. Then their memories will be used to create a 3rd reality, one that is hopefully similar to the 1st except that now the foundation has a warning; a key bit of info that will hopefully be enough to save it.

I think, in this case, it’s not even about “the few/one” vs “the many”. It’s the idea that D01, the reader, the Designated Survivor, cannot and will not continue to exist if this task is not carried out, because for the SCP Foundation to resort to the complete and utter annihilation of themselves and all reality, it means that there is NO surviving. For anything. It is, realistically, both the most selfless and selfish act to commit, because in opening this file D01 has destroyed not just the few, or the many, or even the entire Foundation. They have destroyed EVERYTHING. All of reality. They alone survive this contingency, and the price for their continued existence is to be chased, hunted and preyed upon for an indeterminate amount of time until they can rest, if ever that time comes. The rest of reality being born from the ashes of D01’s torment is more like a convenient side effect of something D01 would have to do anyway. It’s not really like they have a choice between “Open the file” and “Complete destruction” It’s not so much a case of “you suffer for us, we thank you” it’s more like “you have to suffer, and if you make it, it was the only chance you had”.

Could be, in many SCPs the foundation is hinted, or sometimes outright confirmed, to have been recreated from scratch, or to have been part of some kind of reality reset (even if this is just repopulation). What would be a fun idea to do is that when at the start is says "A button only you can see will appear for you to click on to proceed." Then a button with a annotation linking to a second video comes on screen to take you to the scp.

That would be fun, but loads of people listen to TheVolgun while not watching the screen.

Just now getting some free time today to watch this and man the intro got me hooked immediately! It always make me feel like I’m inside a foundation facility getting briefed on a SCP we’re about to go contain. Anyways… thanks for upload man, i always enjoy these slot & It’s one of the things I look forward to every weekend. I only watch your channel and “the exploring series. Y’all are both amazing at doing scp files! My two favs! Lol

Volgun u did such a fantastic job narrating the SCP article, u really nailed the tone of the scp foundation and the entire world ending except this one person in the video. Hearing ur narration gave me chills, awesome work!!!

The scariest thought for me is: imagine you're not the right person, the one they was supposed to listen to it. You were not the department of one, you've never heard of it. And now everything is going to be even worse than the worse scenario, and it's kind of your fault.
@oliviapatterson39142 жыл бұрын
The will always be a contingency plan.
@Amir_4042 жыл бұрын
When listening to this, I can help but wonder if the "one" is actually bait. Hide nearly all of the foundation with some sort of bubble reality so that the predator fixates on what is still exposed; fill the one with misinformation so that he/she becomes the ideal target for this type of conceptual predator; then ease the one and predator from existence with a chain reaction that restores the foundation.
@erdrick86702 жыл бұрын
Interesting to think of that last user having used the final contingency to, rather than return themselves in their entirety, instead scatter that previous self across the new reality. Each story people write in our reality being a fragment of that final employee. Everyone who reads them and finds a connection with the SCP stories having a piece of that one inside of them calling out to remember. All so if the foundation should be needed again, many will know and be called out to help in the cause. Innately, the foundation can return for it exists in all who feel drawn to its call. At least that would be my idea for it. Makes the community that the name SCP has culminated feel that much more connected.

Something about that closing sentence is even heavier than the rest. The idea that you might suddenly *wake up* one day, and all of this has been as a dream, just the shadow of the world where you hid until it was safe...

I would love to see a short film which focuses on the aftermath of this SCP. I could see it being a sort of horror film where the person selected as the Order of 1wakes up in the new reality and we only get glimpses of the thing hunting them. And all through out the film they are remembering glimpses of the Foundation. The film ending with the predator somehow being stopped and the person remembering his task and restoring the Foundation's reality.

I've read/listened to some pretty intense SCPs but this makes them all pale in comparison if you ask me... Even 3426 seems tame next to this. Excellent narration and production! My favorite so far!

The way this was written i thought this was subtly implying they were changing the actual scp wiki from wikidot to a standalone website or something. Would be a cool in universe way to make that transition.

One thing that I think people don't notice about this version is that the perfect predator and the perfect hider are left alone in the same dead reality, and the perfect hider dies to continue the sanctity of the Foundation in a new reality. There is a version of the Department of One that continues on in the new reality, but they leave the other one behind for the perfect predator to eventually find. It doesn't really matter if they 'wake up', as long as they complete the protocol.
