SCP-662 - Butler's Hand Bell (SCP Animation)

SCP-662 is a Safe Class anomaly also known as the Butler's Hand Bell.
SCP 662 is a small silver hand bell that is missing its ringer. When SCP662 is shaken as if to ring it, a soft chime can be heard and a short well-dressed butler of self-proclaimed British heritage, calling himself Mr. Deeds, will appear from the nearest area not within line of sight. Mr. Deeds will address the ringer of the bell by their appropriate title and last name, and ask what it is they desire.

To be fair, he didn't know anything about Mr. Deeds at the time and SCPs can have sinister effects or unknown costs. He could have been holding a monkey's paw that would interpret his request in the most malicious manner possible. Mr. Deeds might be a malicious entity that will be freed after granting a finite number of requests. He had no idea. Messing with anomalous objects is a roll of the dice.

In fact if the the O5 orientation was applied to every story then these paragraphs would be applicable. "We do not repair: we secure, contain, protect. Surely you must have wondered why the objects are not numbered chronologically, in order of recovery? Surely you must have wondered why some objects have fully documented histories and others don't? Surely you must have wondered, given everything you know, why this world even still exists? See, I told you that you had more questions than you thought." "We don't know how much of what we documented is true anymore, it probably changes from day to day. There's no way of telling what is being affected by what anomaly, especially when there could be an infinite number that we haven't even discovered. Existence is an anomaly." Meaning that despite us being the writers there would be no reason to assume that what was written down is still true in universe especially with there being countless abnormalities. After all, let's say you are unkillable and you survive countless normally fatal accidents. Who is to say that you can't be killed by Lava or Supernova? Even if it was true, how would you know unless you tried. To that end if I recall there was a SCP that was considered safe until a researcher accidentally ripped it. Then it was updated to Eulid while becoming dangerous and extremely pissed at that researcher.

I encourage people to read SCP-662's entry for themselves. His interview with Dr. Mirth is actually a really fun read. He's clearly a real person because he has some slight memories and even says that he was in fact born, seems distressed by not being able to remember who he really is, and he doesn't even know HOW he does what he does so there's something more to this than just a magic butler. He doesn't remember dying, and seems unsure if he will actually come back (even though he does) so it feels less like he's unkillable and more like he is being replaced whenever he is destroyed. My personal headcanon is that the people who ring the bell have to become the next Mr. Deeds when they die. It seems to good to be true that you just get a free magic butler at literally no cost. I mean, if he is like a genie, there is always a cost, usually it's the wishes themselves, but I think the bell curses you or something.

I would guess they don't last long. The Foundation seems to discover things no one thought they would. But, if the agent just doesn't know it either, the Foundation could still know, and be using the agent as an experiment or as a means of containment. Some SCPs are better off with no one knowing what it is, for the safety of the world, maybe even the universe.

Actually, I have a theory on the butler. When you ask him to bring you something, no matter what it is, he brings it back on a silver platter. So, my thinking is that, as long as it fits on the platter, he can bring it to you. But as far as performing services or tasks, there's virtually no limit to what he can do. I would say that this is one of the occasions of O5 being unfair. After all, if Mr. Deeds can do so much stuff, maybe you can use him to bring slightly rare but necessary goods, materials, and equipment. I gotta say, if anything, the researcher wasn't being nearly imaginative enough. You can ask him to tinker with deadly SCPs until he found a way to neutralize them. If it kills him, just resummon the guy and let him continue the work. I would like to see Mr. Deeds go up against 173. How persistent is he at keeping his eyes open? Of course, send in some others to prevent the thing from actually killing him. Gotta appease that Ethics committee.
