In appearance, SCP-005 resembles an ornate key, displaying the characteristics of a typical mass produced key used in the 1920s. The item seems to have the unique ability to open any and all forms of lock, be they mechanical or digital, with relative ease. The origin of this ability has yet to be determined.

If you look closely at the rendering of the key, 5 symbols are carved onto the teeth. This is the Matoran Language from the popular toyline from Lego, Bionicle. The letters are meant to spell 'DREAM' though with its orientation, the word is "DREUM" is produced instead.

So scp 001- the lock. And scp 005- the skeleton key, which can unlock any LOCK. So what I’m seeing here is a very perfect combination. I’m pretty certain that the key could unlock 001. There has probably been a document or page about this that I haven’t seen but it sure would be interesting to look at.

Imagine running this through SCP-914, here are some ideas: Rough: A plie of rusted metal used to make the key. No anomalous properties. Coarse: A pile of metal that can be forged into the key with no anomalous properties. 1:1: Different looking key (can change into a modern house key, car key etc.) Fine: Can unlock more things and break any concealed lock. Very Fine: Can unlock any lock and gain access to anything (Ex. President CEO etc.) Thoughts?

Sounds like SCP: 005 is nothing more than a tool. Sure, they identified it has intelligence but I might wager that it's intelligence is linked only to the user. As a Sword or Gun is the extension of it's user's desire to bring harm to a living being, or a Car is the extension of a user's desire to move at greater distances with greater speed. SCP:005 is nothing more than the extension of the user's will to unlock anything.

“Safe” SCP’s aren't always “safe”. It just means that they are relatively low risk to contain with the proper procedures. The reason the skeleton key is so heavily guarded is because in the wrong hands it could be used for some disastrous deeds.
