Your doin it the right way if you ask me. Most people fail on the saddle, by gettin one off the net and slappin it on. The biggest tell-tail of a garage build is saddle gap. And all garage builds should look like they came outta the factory. Keep her lit love your work!

I like the look of a close fit, but it’s always tough to get a perfect fit and finish with a custom build. You have great attention to detail. Looking forward to seeing the final product.

Should definitely try and have the seat and tank as seamless as possible, it looks great and sleek as hell. The bike looks better and better after every episode. Keep it up👍.

I watched my buddy Phillip Cato when he lived and worked on a shop in the town over from me doing foam work and I couldn't vision the shape but he sure did. Now he's a big TV star but still a killer upholstery builder.

Whooops! You killed the cat with a piece of flying foam! :-) Well looks says go for the tight solution....but riding wise...time will tell that a gap is the right path to choose. I know it's a bit tricky to make the lines "jump" from one thing to another. But remember, when you find it difficult to see, two steps back will help you back on track again.
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
Once again you are 100% right :) Thank you mate. I did the cat killer foam trick 3 times lol, I was lucky not to get my fingers lol the risks we take. Haha
@doronkofler74706 жыл бұрын
As always great video. The issue I can think of is when you sit on the bike, the foam tends to pull the seat back a bit and then you get a gap. If static then seamless is the nicer option.
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
very true, I will try and make mounting strong enough so this doesn't happen. Still yet to work on that :)

We used to use that foam to make tool box templates. Just route through the grey and you are left with a blue pocket to put your tools in.
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
@@leeharveygriswold6160 Great idea but would that be deep enough to hold tools in place tho?
@leeharveygriswold61605 жыл бұрын
Yeah it seemed to work fine. The blue stuff is pretty thick so you can route a fair way into it.

The married seat with the gas tank i like what you did with it, i see harleys that are just plane bare with the eat and about 4 inches of frame showing between the seat and gas tank definitely don't like that look, always prefer the married seat and gas tank look, it gives it a more smooth sleek look. 🤙🏼

Ik you haven't finished your other two bikes but a dirt tracker Moto Guzzi would be the coolest thing, and I like the idea of using two different layers of foam.

You should allow enough of a gap between seat pan and tank to allow cover material to wrap around front of pan leaving a small even gap to the tank otherwise vibration and movement will end up cutting/wearing through the cover.

Try spraying the glue with a cheap air gun. Uses a lot less glue and drys quick. Love ya work 👍🏻

Great idea, I didn't think I would do enough of it to need a spray gun but having said that it would be handy :)
@chrisrawle29676 жыл бұрын
I personally prefer a gap, I have tried something similar to what you are trying on cx500 cafe racer build where a made the seat pan rear hump and a small hump at the front on the seat to mould into the tank from layered marine ply. It was my interpretation of a theme borrowed from a Riviera speedboat....
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
hey that is really cool, and thank you for sharing brother

I like the 'Old School', separation but nicely but seat nicely butted up to the tank .Comment's way late but way the hell?

second surprise today, I figured for making your seat you'd do like the manufacturer's do and pour the expandable liquid foam into some fancy custom made seat mold......

nice update! do you have any idea of fixing the seat on the frame? how you will do that? Iam curently building one cx also :)

Looks good but just be aware that if there’s any of that tape under the glass it will release. If it’s only a bit you should be ok as you’ve got enough glass all around it.
@alanconway88216 жыл бұрын
It's looking pretty cool! I'm going to be building my own seat for my scrambler soon I'm just waiting on my tank to arrive. But I have a few questions. You were saying you will use the highest density foam available for the top. What's the idea of that? Would it not be more comfortable with a lower density? Or even a high density for shaping but covered in a small layer of low density? The reason I ask is this is my daily ride so it needs to be comfortable over looks.
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
I use harder foam for thinner seats but the thicker your seat will be the softer you can go, the hard stuff on the bottom and layer it with a softer foam towards the top, this blue stuff is the hard foam and the pink stuff is softer. I hope that helps

Where did you pick up that material? The blue stuff.
@CafeRacerGarage6 жыл бұрын
Its just a yoga mat so you can buy them everywhere, this is just a very thick one, if you can't find a thick one in your local area, you can always do 2 layers of the thinner mat and that will do the same thing :)
@rulehardgarage97406 жыл бұрын
@@CafeRacerGarage yeah I've doesn't the yoga matts as a seat before but I can never find thick ones. Just super thin ones so after gluing them they get kinda weirdly stiff. I'm using spray adhesive though. Looks like your using something to your painting on.

I still make my own pans but this build I'm doing now will be the first one that I'm just sending the pan off to be done professionally.
@99odo6 жыл бұрын
Won't you run into problems because tanks are normally on rubber mounts (my CB750 is) and move around a bit and your seat won't have any movement as it's fixed to the frame? I used yoga mat in my seat also and it's done a good job for the last few years.
