That clothes line contraption looks like the lower part may be an old steering gear and shaft assembly with another part attached to it. 1950's and earlier trucks and cars had a one piece steering gear box and shaft assembly. Looks like something else is attached to it at the hose clamp and rubber boot. The rubber coated plate looks like where the shaft went thru the floor and if you clear the dirt out of that box, you might find a worn gear. Then you'd know for sure.

You have come such a long way in clearing that property. Most people don't know the back breaking work that goes into it. I think you can give yourself a great pat on the back for all the work you have done. The Old Byrd Farm has come a long way since your first video hit KZbin. Congratulations! Most people would have given up.

I know a place where a small pond would fit very nicely in the yard. And, it would never dry out. That thing you asked about was the mast the TV antenna was mounted on. The box on the end was the rotator to point the antenna at the TV transmitter. The wires are what controlled the rotator.

You were definitely on a roll there until you hit that wet mud. You sure there’s no spring under there? I was so impressed that the orange tractor got out of it with little ease. I could feel your excitement in your voice at how pleased you are with more land clearing. I’m excited for ya too. It’s looking great. I believe you found the mother load of the wisteria. That thing was huge. Definitely to cut that sucker up real good. Keep it coming Robert! ♥️😊👍👍👍👍🌟🌟

Robert, there probably is a spring on that part of the property. Those foundations were, most likely, the remains of a spring house. I would imagine, if you put an auger, down deep enough into that ground, you would find that spring. Keep the videos coming, I really have enjoyed them.

This is an awesome posting. I'm sure all of us who have kept up with your progress on the farm are just as thrilled as you to see the clearing taking place. Can't wait to see the bonfire. Question... will the vines hanging from the trees eventually fall since you cut them? Will be nice to see tress without the nasty vines.

Walter posted a video on his channel with some pictures of the farm when you were very young. The farm had a lot of overgrown wisteria back then! I commented on his video that the wisteria is not a new problem on the farm. Literally been there for decades! Also, I can feel you when you say the task at hand is actually fun. It is indeed cathartic to see your own land being recovered and giving the existing trees room to breathe. Maybe, just maybe, opening up that swampy area will allow it to dry out easier. Sunshine is an amazing thing!

The tiny white flowering shrubs is Spirea. It is one of the three first blooming Spring shrubs. The other two are Yellow Bells, and Red Flowering Quince, which has thorns on it. That is all the glory of quince and spirea. Forsythia or Yellow Bells have very pretty Fall foliage when the leaves turn to very pretty bronze and reds. They root easily by just laying a branch out on the ground and placing a brick or concrete block on it. In about 6 weeks or so it will have rooted and can be separated from the plant with a sharp shovel. Then plant in desired location. Yellow Bells are prettiest when placed as a hedge row or where they do not need to be trimmed. If the branches are left long, the yellow flowers are beautiful and in long graceful branches. They should not be cut in a ball. The branches should be left long and graceful. And do not cut spring blooming shrubs after 1st of August, they are setting buds for next Spring blooms. Hope this is helpful.

Perhaps you could contact Sherman and Mr Peabody requesting they go back 200 years and view the land prior to the Byrd's arrival. Seriously, it would be interesting to get a three or four foot deep core same of the swampy ground. It's always possible there's so much clay there that it takes forever and a day for water to drain through it. Is that area lower than surrounding ground? Maybe water used to flow through where the highway is but is blocked by road substructure. Do let us know what the "clothesline" pipe contraption was. Your enthusiasm for clearing is a job to watch. 👍👍👍

I hope your neighbor will let you cut that DAMN WISTERIA vine and i hope that swampy area isn't very big because you have enough to deal with on the farm with that DAMN WISTERIA. If ever there was a guy that needed a landscape rake and grapple for a tractor it's you. I would say it's me, but I already bought my rake and built my grapple. I haven't encountered any wisteria yet, my problem was kudzu. I think one is as bad for trees as the other. A grapple allows you to pull the stumps up and the vines down, then carry it all to the fire. Works great for ripping out and piling privet also.

I agree that you have wet weather springs. The soil composition differences may be because of what was growing in those areas and how much natural composting occurred in the past. . That said, somebody long ago might have hauled in dirt from elsewhere to fill in low spots or gulleys.
