BigStackD here again from my weekly melt, I hope you’re all doing well. Today a super quick trip to the scrapyard where I found this little sad motor who looked all lonely 😞 so I brought him home to make him part of the BigStack. Some copper an aluminium in today’s video as Well as some other usual cameos. Honestly, the motor melts are my favorite type of melts. They are so transformative. You take dirty scrap yard trash, and turn it into beautiful, shiny, bars and coins.

I agree, I like motor melts. So much metal from them and you get both aluminum and copper! Good colors. To add on to that, I like when you break the casing up in weird ways, and the smashing of the copper wire. I think you spend the perfect amount of time on sanding and polish, and melt shots.

How can you tell the difference between the different metals? I don’t know if this is a dumb question, but it always makes me wonder.

Colour, weight, strength, malleability, magnetism, how it cuts, colour and type of corrosion, etc. Telling different alloys apart is harder but can be done by machining or welding, or of course actual testing. It basically comes down to experience. Colour, weight and magnetism are the main ones though.

If you run out of graphite or (like me) too cheap to buy any, hold a lit candle under the inverted mold and coat the inside with soot. Works great for me.
