PART 1: • HOW TO PLAY SCRATCH GO...
Scratch golf is very different to what you think.
How can I shoot 76 and be classified as a scratch round? That's indeed confusing and why my handicap is probably lower than the 5 I estimate it to be. There are a lot of people who will immediately say someone is not a certain handicap because of one or two rounds.
But that's where the Handicap system needs to be explained.

A lot of playas will get this WRONG. Scratch golf is NOT shooting level par on the scorecard every time. Handicap systems work differently to what you think scratch golf is.
The handicap system works out your handicap over 20 scores, and only counts your best 8 scores. So if you play the same course over and over and over again, your score should trend downwards anyway.
And on top of that, the course rating is often much higher than 72. Some courses have a stroke rating of 73, 74 or 75. That means if you score 76 EIGHT TIMES out of TWENTY scores, you will be a scratch handicap.
Your scores can be 8 x76 and 12 x 99 - yes you can shoot 99 TWELVE TIMES and still be a scratch handicap because they took your 8 best scores of 76 76 76 76 76 76 76 76 and ignored the rest.
That means on this course, rated 74.9 and a slope of 131, if I shoot 75-76 eight times and score between 77 and 90 for the remaining 12, my handicap would be scratch! So while these two videos may not add up to 72, thats NOT SCRATCH GOLF!
That's actually PLUS HANDICAP golf!!!! Please keep this in mind when you talk about others handicap.
Whenever you see someone play one or two rounds on KZbin or in person and they do not shoot to their handicap, remember their handicap is from their best 40% of their scores. And remember, if you shoot your handicap every round, you would be a pro within 6 months because it would keep dropping week after week. AND ONE MORE THING!!
Remember when you talk to other people about someone not being a certain handicap they told you they were, EVERYONE ELSE IS TALKING ABOUT YOU THE SAME WAY! LOLOLOL

I play solo rounds as I love just playing golf and it feels great when i hit a sub 100 round! Yes I'm that level of golfer, but i still enjoy my time on the course. I'll even travel to play a new course even solo, its just you verses the course! :) When not solo on a course I usually play a round with my Dad, Uncle or both of them, time well spent.

Quick tip for those unreadable putts. First make sure you’re straddling your intended line, if you need to use this strategy you should have more than enough wiggle room to not stomp on your own line. Secondly, don’t bother aiming outside the cup from that distance if you can’t even see the break.

yeah, the first shot version...and the second shot version lol. Went out the other day solo and played 2 balls on every hole. Ball 2 scored a 79...ball 1 scored my normal 95. I didn't cheat or anything on ball 2, it was just so much more carefree and focused than the stress of ball 1. 79 is about 8 strokes better than I've ever played in my life.

I like playing with my buddies but a solo round is a way to have peace and relaxation. You can enjoy the course, the trees the quiet. Your game improves as you concentrate and get into a zone especially if you walk. You contemplate strategy, club selection pick your safe areas and also choose which pins to attack. If you have never walked a round just by yourself you must try it, totally different game.

Yes, I definitely play solo rounds. Especially love it when I'm the first tee time in the morning and nobody is ahead of me. I can play at my own pace, get in a rhythm that isn't dictated by the people I'm with or the groups around me, hit extra shots whenever I want to work on the game, and I'll play in well under 3 hours. I also find it super relaxing to be out there by myself and like being done before the hottest part of the day.

That is EXACTLY how I am currently playing most of my Golf and it is both relaxing and helps me think better about all of my Shots. I'm from Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. I played a private course today and on the 5th tee box from the tips I see someone has planted a feather right next to the marker. I explained what this meant to my friend and then I smashed driver, was on in two and drained the putt. So you see Playas, you have to plant feathers to grow birdies for your fellow golfers as well, and hopefully if enough feathers get planted, you will find one that will grow birdies for you.

I play solo because my parents (who introduced me) rarely play, my girlfriend rarely wants to play, and none of my friends play. Also, I play alone rather than play with strangers. It is quite relaxing to play golf alone - my biggest obstacle is mustering the energy it takes after a work week to get myself to the course. One problem I've run into in Sweden is that this year has a record number of new golfers, so the tee times are almost always jam packed when I am available to play. The consequence is that even if I book a solo ball I find that I am joined by a threesome. Sometimes it is enjoyable, sometimes not so much!

I can hit my 60* beautifully out of the rough from 75-80yrd in & my badass new 54* Mizzuno is amazing from 85-115 out, both on the fairway and the rough. My 56* is garbage so I rarely use it, should probably take your advice and treat myself to a new sand wedge type degrees club - but back to the point - when I hit my 60* off the fairway from the same range as the round I generally take a huge divot, skull it, whatever, and only go half the distance I was looking for straight up in the air. Other times I just top the crap out of it and it worms burns past the hole. But my 54*, wow! I can hit that fine under 80yrds off the fairway, but it’s got so much power I gotta be very controlled with it. Guess my question here is: why is it so tough to hit my 60* off the fairway at the same range I feel confident and comfortable hitting off the rough from? Is it all confidence and in my head, or is it the design of the 60? Hmm 🤔

I play a fair amount of my rounds solo. I usually use those as opportunities to work on the area of my game that need work. I will rarely play a hole fully usually pick a tee shot I need to work on and hit it once or twice. Then pick those up and drop at an approach shot i need to work on and hit a few from there drop a few around the green and repeat. I find that one of the areas I work on the most in these rounds are the recovery shots I will drop under trees and force myself to hit both punch fades and draws.

"On your deathbed..." Just before I saw that part of the vlog I got a call from a retired friend, proposing a round on a Friday morning when I should be working. I thought about it 5 seconds, and came to your same conclusion - game on! Your comment vindicated my choice, thanks! PS: Love your content by the way. The quality of the camera is great, the editing (love the tracer, which makes a big difference for the viewer) and of course the free instruction. Thank you very much!

I play solo rounds because non of my friends are playing golf , they think golf is a sport for old people(in my country which is basically the truth). Please vote to support the solitary man.

Play solo for self practice, gateway from social (including social distance), because couldn’t find anyone to play with esp when traveling outside home country and of course peaceful & quiet alone game.

I play solo more than I do with friends - I'm out to have time to think, enjoy the sounds of birds, the breeze and the sunshine. Makes me a better player for when I do hit the links with buddies.

Baus Man - No more 2 iron? I know you have upgraded the bag this year (new WITB coming I'm guessing), but I'm wondering why the Hybrid over the 2 iron rocket ship? Maybe you are using Driver on more tee shots and looking for a club you can hit off the deck? If I recall, the Srixon Z U85 was great off the tee but not the turf. It looks like you are committed to Driver on almost every Par 4 or 5 and really getting confident with it. Great stuff.

I play at first light 2-3 times a week back 9 walking. my friends are lazy and sleep in!! LOL i enjoy being by myself its my mind clearing activity and i can concentrate much better than with buddies chatting me up and talking about work and wives etc... i reserve those rounds with Broskies for nice courses 18 holes and when i know it will take a while to play then grab lunch etc. I am not anti-social, quite opposite. just like the feeling of being out there by myself and figuring my game out... PS since i have been watching you and other you tubers my handicap dropped from a 16/18 to a 7.8...over the last 2 years...love the channel. need more break 80 or par videos

I like a solo round because your score is already out the window. Without some one to attest the score its useless. So now your free just have fun or work on something. Aim at bunkers amd wprk on samd play, or have a 2 ball scramble with yourself. It doesnt matter. Its just fun and practice when your solo.

Nice video Matt, loving it. In Germany we will be changing from our "old" handicap system to the World Handicap Index next year. We are expecting to drop around 2-3 shots each as a result of how it is calculated - which is exactly as you describe above. In our current rules it also actually states that the handicap shows the potential of a player, ie on an average difficult course in good weather etc, playing a GOOD round. So we're not supposed to play our handicap every time we go out. Personally I try to remember that it's just a number. On that note, got to go out practising to get to scratch! Haha, thumbs up to the Playa-in-Chief! PS: Starting to see planted feathers on my golf course recently, the movement is spreading!

I play solo rounds often after work, usually 9 holes, always walking, and always shoot much better. I’m usually shooting around 92-97 on 18, but playing 9 solo and walking using your tips of hitting what’s comfortable I’m shooting much better like that around 42-44. I like to take the time walking up to my shots to plan out my shot choice, shape, club selection, commit to it and swing confidently. Playing with others I’m often trying things I’m not capable of and blowing up holes. Cue the Tuba music.

Solo rounds are the best because it's a totally mindful experience. As a beginner, I'm not all that great yet either. So playing alone allows me to practice the little cues you give. My most recent favorite I've been working on is "slapping the sand" I've been absolutely FERTILIZING the greens with my sand fellow playas!
