I stopped golfing for several years and just got back into golf last year after stumbling across Golf Sidekick videos and became inspired. I never used a rangefinder or GPS until I purchased a Rangefinder at the end of last year. And now ask myself why didn’t I get one sooner! Rangefinder all the way! Knowing exactly how far to the pin has really boosted my confidence in selecting the correct club to get me where I want to land! Thanks for all the great videos “Playa in Chief”. OK sorry guys here comes a book. I've only been playing 5 months, I got into it for fitness (I run with my own bag-carry caddy), but got some private lessons from a great teacher and have been binge watching golf videos to sift through the good and bad advice. Golf Sidekick is simply the best course management videos out there. I'm getting the vibe that even after developing solid hitting skills you hit a plateau and this is the only way to move past that. Finally: I have started using the Garmin G80 Approach, fits right in my caddy, and even though I'm only hitting confident with about four clubs (7 iron and below), knowing distances to hazards and green in real time has allowed me to choose clubs with confidence and choose good layup distances where I can pitch onto the green using a full shot. Just shot a 44 on the back 9 of a course today and I attribute it all to course management learning the Way of the Playa and that awesome Garmin G80.

I have the Bushnell Phantom. Great name. Small and reliable. £99. Best purchase in my bag. My playing buddies all have rangefinders and they still go “Sam, how far have I got” they can never be asked to get their rangefinder out of its case and then find the pin and get the yardage, put it back in and then forget the number and have to do it all again. Bushnell Phantom - out of the pocket, simple big number middle yardage and smaller front and back. Easy living. Easy playing.

I believe a combination of both watch and range finder is the best. RF gives you the exact point and the watch helps you navigate through the rest of the hole and gives you a range on the green with front middle and back. They also serve to give you two looks at nearly every aspect of each hole with front middle and back as well as the exact location of the hole. It's like having a keyboard and touch screen. Each provides a function that enhance the experience.

I have used a rangefinder for years. I get the distances to the stick, sometimes the cart ahead of me or other targets. I just picked up the S40 watch a few weeks ago and love it. I use them both. The watch is great for giving me front and back of the greens which the rangefinder is not as good with. It also automatically measures every shot I hit which is great for dialing in your club distances. Plus, its a pretty great watch, too. It syncs with my iPhone, counts my steps and a lot of other neat tricks. BTW, Baus...Just as this video was ending, my hat arrived at my doorstep. I use a simple Garmin watch and an Inesis rangefinder. Both great. Most of the time I just use the watch - especially on home course. Gives me what I need - yardage to the front/middle/back at a glance. The rangefinder is mega helpful on away courses when figuring out distances to hazards when driving and laying up. It also helps when within 100 yds and I need to figure out what wedge/swing combo to use (like lots of other folks I have hip/shoulder/full swings)

The rangefinder is perfect for exact pin distance and to get a good look at the green from a distance if you're unfamiliar with the course. Rangefinder is best for distance to a rock or tree or lip of bunker etc. Plus sometimes one or the other is wrong for some reason. Chances are if they both give you similar range, you're gtg..

I got a watch as a present. I don't have a rangefinder experience but the watch is nice because it will help track some stats and give you a bit of a course replay when used with a phone app. The rangefinder could be good if you want specific things, like a carry from a specific angle. Depends on what you want. For me, the watch is very very nice.
@seancoxe35774 жыл бұрын
I have both. I find my gps watch convenient if I'm playing a course I regularly play. It lists distances to front, middle, and back of the green, and also displays distances to and over hazards. That being said, I still use my rangefinder on courses I'm not familiar with and when I need distances on familiar courses to specific targets, such as pins and lay-up targets..

I use shot scope v3 watch and a range finder. The watch is great for quick things like hazards, front/middle/back of greens, and tracking my shots.
