The reason I loved this film is that they made Ritchie being one of the killers very clear for those watching. When he was in the hospital, he froze when ghostface (Amber) was shot and looked genuinely panicked, like the act broke for a moment, and he was reluctant to leave. They basically showed Olivia's death but in broad daylight in the front yard, and we didn't get cuts to other characters, just the stabbing stabbing stabbing. And then it seemed like no one really cared at all about Judy, nor Wes. Judy Hicks was a much more intelligent and smarter character than that scene. She would not have left her son, her means everything to her clearly, alone when his friend was just brutally attacked by Ghostface, who she herself has a history with, not to mention the town she grew up in.

While I understand what you are saying, there's not really any evidence for that. Also, a higher-than-mighty sheriff mentality wouldn't explain why she left her kind son at home alone to go fetch sushi during a killing spree of Ghostface. It was just a poor script and not understanding a character. "Also, the fact that it was broad daylight probably let her guard down." - Yet, she had the call and would have thought "grab my gun". We have all of her characterisation in Scream 4 to go by. She was smart and quick. "I don’t really see her leaving her son for 10 minutes in a locked house as a dumb decision." - She would, and not even for a good reason. No doubt they delivered. I have to say that Wes’s death really surprised me. I pegged him as a killer early on and through Judy dying would either be him pulling a Jill or having to “tie up loose ends”. I also thought him and Judy would have motive because Woodsboro had been boring for a decade and many hated Stab 8, which is seen as a stain for some of their town. It also is heartbreaking that Judy died and still failed to protect her son, and Wes died never knowing what happened to his mother.

I didn’t really mind Dewey dying, i just personally wished that struggle was a little longer. It definitely looked like he was going to go full badass on Ghost face but it in my opinion it lacked a little something i mean they had a whole hospital to play with.
@VegasAceVII2 жыл бұрын
I already knew about his death in advance to my screening (i figured it out via the official sound track) but even though I made peace with his death, I agree that it lacked something. I didn't picture in my head it being caused by Gale calling him on the phone (let's face it, he would have died anyway because he decided to go back). I was kinda' hoping, he'd go down saving Gale in some capacity after the hospital scene. I knew he was gone the moment he turned around from the elevator for sure. The entire film up to that point, foreshadows his death, build him up (when he was never a good cop) and watch them fall. Something wasn't entirely right with this final scene for Dewey.
@MadeByDW2 жыл бұрын
My issue with his death is that Dewey is too experienced to go out like that. Why did he not shoot Ghostface when Amber first fell? Why didn’t he unmask Ghostface right then and there? Why did you go back?! If we would’ve gotten a scene with the original 3 together, I wouldn’t be so salty, but seeing Dewey go out like that hurt man. I knew what was coming as soon as he stepped out the elevator, but I don’t feel like the movie truly earned it.

After seeing the movie again, I did like it “more”. This movie had the best opening since the original, and I loved the fact that Kirby was confirmed to be alive. That’s when I felt that the new creative team really did want to honor Wes Craven, and they did just that. Every prior movie was shown some type of love. Both killers do slight things that give themselves away throughout the movie, just like in previous movies, those lil lines of dialogue and lil exchanges/looks they give each other. My biggest gripe, like with most “requels”, is that they didn’t give us our big 3 together again. If we would’ve gotten just one shot of the original trio together, I wouldn’t have minded it, but they weren’t given enough to do, and they were super sidelined. I do agree that Jenna Ortega’s Tara is more interesting than Sam, I didn’t like Sam until the ending when she went ballistic on Richie. A “serial killer” for the good guys is a kinda interesting angle. Mindy is definitely the standout, I’m glad her and Chad have the ability to return.

And you know I love you Chris but in all honesty you are with out a doubt the best reviewer. Everything you say is perfectly poetic 😂 even when you have to be negative you are somehow positive about it. I love it man. It’s a breath of fresh air. Thank you my friend. 🙌🏼

Scream is not the franchise if you’re looking for any kind of realism. Personally, I was really hoping Stu would be back. Imagine, Richie being the Son of Stu; Dating the Daughter of Billy… Or Sam being Sydney’s daughter. Billy could have gotten Sydney pregnant, then Billy dies the same night, but between scream 1 and scream 2, Sydney took a year off; she could’ve had the baby, given her up because she couldn’t handle the stress and maybe doesn’t want her daughter to be involved in this tragic story and murders etc. And so Sam’s “mom” is her adopted mom; and could’ve really tied that in there. Stu goes into hiding or changes his identity over the years, he knows the secret of Sydney and the killers would be Stu and his son/daughter and goes on a murder spree 25 years later, with the motive of “you killed my friend, you took my life away” OR “he’s making a better movie in honor of Billy because that’s what Billy would’ve wanted” or something along the lines. I wish there was more character development with Amber and some others; just seemed a tad…rushed or looked over but over all I’d give this movie 8 stabs out of 10.

I loved it. One thing that amused me was how it took the first film's line "Movies don't create psychos, movies may psychos more creative" because in this one, yes, movies do create psychos, but also it is the psychos wanting to make the movies more creative. The Judy/Wes scene is probably my favourite. Loved the opening. Hated the Liv character; the one they can't do anything with except make her a bad red herring. It makes sense for the legacy characters to not be in it as long. The events of the movie is, what? Three days? They can't keep having Sidney be the one the entire time. Really liked Jasmin Savoy Brown, Jack Quaid and the Barrera/Ortega double. I think there are plenty of ways they could take the franchise while keeping it with the things we love. Yeah it seemed really easy to pick who the killers were even though they tried to misdirect. I also love how they keep the tradition of the back and forth tributes with Halloween movies... they've always done it with each other over the years, and there's the obvious tributes of "you cant have a halloween without jamie lee" etc... but there's also how they talk about stab. Saying "it went off the rails with 5" and the fandom wanting to pretend 8 never happened... those are the exact halloween sequels that fans start to complain about. Then you have the character of Sam. The last name is Carpenter, a tribute to John Carpenter. But when you think of the fact that Billy Loomis is her real father, it would mean her real name is Sam Loomis.. Which is the name of Michael Myer's Doctor... I love all the nods to Halloween :)

When Amber & Richie revealed their motive as the killers, I immediately thought back to Mickey's motive in Scream 2. They are mirrors of each other. Amber & Richie killed in order to make a good horror movie. Micky killed because he knew he could get away with it by saying the horror movies made him do it.
