The good thing is, even though the Ghostface identities were kinda wacky, that moment when Tara and Sam are back-to-back, bricks in hand, forced to compose themselves and really fight one Ghostface each to protect themself and the other, in a trapped environment, was truly one of the most raw moments in the franchise. @mikecapalungan Жыл бұрын
@@gaybetch I think when they moved together as Tara told Bailey when they were being questioned after the bodega that they moved to New York in the summer and since this is a year after Scream 5, I would assume Chad, Mindy, and Tara are freshmen in college. And because I’m sure of how close of a bond they all seem to have with one another not just throughout the film but in the first 45 minutes with Mindy watching out for Tara as that frat dude was about to take advantage of her or how Chad was immediately there to defend her, or Chad trying to get the girls to stop arguing out in public after the frat house before the whole group helps calm Sam down after those rude girls try to start things with her or telling her how they don’t hate her even though she feels everyone else does. So Tara and Chad’s relationship definitely was natural and didn’t feel forced or random to have at all. It would’ve been cool to have some sort of flashback from the summer to see maybe where Chad’s and Tara’s feelings started to develop for another because it wasn’t said when in the summer they moved to NY, but given his whole movie takes place around Halloween, that’s like 2-4 months (depending on if they moved in August right before the start of the school semester or earlier like in June or something). So they probably all got super close from the trauma bond they’ve all formed together and spend a lot of time in the summer being new to NY. As in the movie they basically admit they’re like each other’s family due to how Tara’s and Sam’s mother is out of their lives and twins lost their family too.

Despite a few small grifes. This was no doubt my favourite sequel. I would have liked to see Ethan’s ghostface stay nervous and awkward once he revealed himself and maybe even uncertain whether he’s doing the right thing helping his dad and sister. It would have been something different and would have worked better. Like when the Detective mentions losing his first born and Ethan gives that kinda sad look. I wish they built more on that.
@paidendenae Жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with this. But then I wonder if they didn’t go that route on purpose to avoid the audience possibly feeling sorry for Ethan. If he were to be even a little unsure, it would result in an uneasy feeling when he’s eventually killed. But yeah personally it would’ve been cool to me to see him possibly change his mind and do the right thing. I don’t think it would be super unbelievable for this to happen if he’d been manipulated by his dad

Anika's Death was so mean and cruel, and since the "core four" were never going to die in this movie, on a second watch Anika feels like a sacrifice and as much as I love the scene, I don't know if I love that she was one of so few characters who were neither core four or a ghostface that mattered, and still died.
@biancascandy5001 Жыл бұрын
Fr in my opinion, Anika's death is the most brutal and tragic kill in the entire scream franchise. She was nearly gutted in front of her friends and gf who couldn't/ didn't act fast enough to help her. If they did, she wouldn't have been as injured & would've been able to successfully cross the ladder. On top of that I think she knew she wouldn't survive which is why she went last.
@biancascandy5001 Жыл бұрын
not to mention after she fell she didn't even look human anymore. I actually thought she was a slug or an alien when I first saw it
@mikecapalungan Жыл бұрын
@@biancascandy5001 I agree that Anika’s death had such a profound effect on me out of the deaths from 5 and the others from this movie. Granted Chad’s “death” had me screaming in my head “no” because I didn’t want him to go like that after him and Tara admitting their feelings. I didn’t expect them to be together, but I really enjoyed it and want to see more of them together. I loved how he was beating the absolute crap out of the GFs, but thought it was ridiculous that out of how hard him and eventually Sam and Tara were hitting them in the face/head, I’m surprised the GFs didn’t get knocked out because those masks I doubt help with much of the impact from those punches, heavy object hits, and kicks to the head. To go off what you said more about Anika though, it was sad no one could really help her out after she was stabbed, had the knife twisted deeper into her, and then started to be forced up into her before Sam came with the wood blocker and beat it over the GF’s head. Also thought you have to remember that these GFs really planned things out and with Quinn being the roommate I’m sure she had all the knives removed knowing Sam or someone would go for them given when the news came on of GF masks being sold at high volume in NY, and Sam immediately goes for the chef’s knife from the knife block in the kitchen as she tells Tara to start packing. Plus Quinn’s body was literally pushed on to the group. Tara and Chad ran down the stairs thinking everyone else had followed only to realize they were still up there while Anika tried to wrap around GF’s legs so they couldn’t move and attack Mindy. Overall, it was so sad to see that she knew she probably wasn’t going to make it, yet it was the belief from the others that she would as she was trying to cross the ladder. Having the ladder be jumbled around from GF in that scene had me at the edge of my seat and then my jaw to the ground after her death. The acting in that moment felt so raw, especially with Mindy bawling her eyes out of heartbreak as she saw it all unfold.

I REALLY enjoyed the thought I had (upon 2nd viewing) that they could very well be moving into “franchise” territory just not horror. The death fakeouts- Chad’s particularly, in both movies- make it feel like F&F. Mindy will realize in her Scream 7 monologue that THE CORE FOUR ARE PRETTY MUCH INVINCIBLE. I really got a Batman & Robin feel from Sam and Tara at the end- vigilantes taking out criminals together ❤ And Kirby (who confirmed to the girls that they’re now FAMILY 😂) will be their Jim Gordon. @mikecapalungan Жыл бұрын
I loved the movie too, everything about it. Loved that I reflected scream 2, but as you said more elevated and I love that there were still a lot of parallel scenes to scream like when Sam tries to punch Gale, but misses until Tara gets one in instead. This scream film for me out of all the others literally had me on the edge of my seat, jaw dropping, heart sinking, and anxious with how intense and gruesome things were in this movie compared to the others. I will say though that I had my doubts on Ethan and guessed he was one of them from the start, but that was also because a lot of people after watching the trailers had their suspicions on him. Bailey I was surprised about because once Kirby brought them to the theater again and they all split up, the music they started playing and her face as she went a different direction made me think she was the killer that had tricked them/trapped them. Thought her motive for why wouldn’t of made much sense to me. After watching it a second time, the first time Friday and the second time today, I realized how I missed some subtle behaviors from Bailey with how weird he was acting. Like I get if he had actually lost Quinn, had he not been the killer alongside his kids how it was reasonable for his acting which is prob the first time around why I was also shocked to find out Quinn was alive, but after seeing it that second time I realized just how suspicious his behavior actually was with some of the things he said. Even Sam questions Bailey for why she had the case file and mentioned how much of a “coincidence” it was for him to have it given he’s her father’s roommate. Especially after they all had that convo with Mindy saying how Quinn was a huge prime suspect despite the anonymous listing she accepted to live with Tara and Sam, but also saying how with her father being a cop it would be perfect because then he could cover it all up. So after the second time it made more sense with the subtle clues I missed that it was him.

I really loved this whole movie. I was on the edge of my seat since the very beginning. I liked when Jason took his mask off because I, along with the whole theater, was incredibly confused. I like how the writers changed up the opening kill. I also really liked how this movie was very character centered and each character was valuable. Sometimes in Scream movies, like in scream 2 or 3, there are characters in the friend group or characters that we heavily focus on that I do not care about at all, however I really adored each character in the friend group (until we found out Ethan was GF because I was convinced he was a red herring. You definitely got me thinking more about the absurdity in the reveal with the dad being a cop with a fake name, using a prosthetic, etc. I would argue that these characters, despite not having a plan to get away with everything, did the whole revenge thing as good as (if not better than) Nancy Loomis. In Scream 2, we hardly see Nancy and she is barely on our radar, but in this movie, we got to know the ghost face killers which is important for me. I in no way mean to undermine Nancy's brilliance of planning to frame Mickey, because the lack of a plan is a definite downside to the Kirsch's plan, but I was a fan of the reveal. Perhaps the Kirsch family did not want to get away with everything. Maybe they were willing to face jail time or death penalty (not sure if New York does it or not) for their actions. Maybe they wanted to send a message to the "Richie is innocent" conspiracists. Or maybe they weren't smart enough to get away with murder. All minor plot holes aside, I really did love this movie.

My 2 largest issues (motive aside) were: 1. Making Gale revert back to her old ways after she clearly stated she wouldn’t write another book at the end of 5. It really diminishes the impact of Dewey’s death from the previous film by having her just continue to be the self centred fame hungry jerk she always was. She learned nothing….she actually profited off of his death. 6 movies in and she has zero character arc or growth. Somewhere, Dewey is rolling in his grave. 2. Not just the fake out kills but how they transpire. For a writing and directing team that clearly has eyes for the details, damn do they really drop the ball on the concept of time. How does Mindy get gut stabbed twice on the way to the theatre and not only survive but go to a hospital, get fixed up, released and then is somehow running towards the theatre at the end? Tara got stabbed in the 5th movie and then spent 3/4 of the movie in the hospital…..but mindy? Nope, like 1 hour. Also Chad should’ve absolutely died not just because of the 84 stab wounds but because of TIME….he laid there for 30 minutes bleeding out. Anyways it was a good, fun movie but the few issues it had….were big ones. Thanks for all your great videos.

I actually think the motive works better than it did with Mrs Loomis in 2. The only scenes Mrs Loomis have are as “Debbie Salt”, anr she never actually interacts with Sidney at all. Bailey, Quinn and “Ethan” make more sense because we get to see them interact with the Core 4 and they actually have an impact on the plot

i think Billy's role is just a very important part of Sam's character. her hallucinations and visions of him persisting into Scream VI show us that she is still greatly struggling with who her father was and what that says about her. how his identity impacts hers. when someone mentions how it's "in her blood" or something else about how Billy's legacy is genetically meant to be carried on with her, she doesn't outwardly show much reaction to it anymore. she tries to appear strong. but, seeing what no one except Sam sees and hearing what no one except Sam hears, all the things her hallucinations of Billy say to her (aka, what her own sick mind is forcing on her), that shows us that she IS affected by all of that. if we didn't see her visions of Billy still, seeing that not much has changed for her since Scream 5, i don't think we would understand her character as much as we do. while he did not play as big of a role this time, i think Billy's presence is still important in giving us insight into Sam's psyche. cause this Billy is not a ghost of the real Billy or something, it's a manifestation of Sam's mental state through an imaginary version of her DNA. and on a more fun personal side to it, i just love still seeing Billy. in the grandness of this franchise, it feels like the original Scream is hardly anything now. even though they were the original killers and are mentioned in 2-4, it feels as if we saw so little of Billy and Stu in comparison to the rest of the franchise. sure, it's the same for any other Ghostface killer, but these are the originals! i was so excited to see Skeet back in Scream VI. i just hope we get to see Matthew as Stu come back sometime. as the original killers, i think they deserve to be given more of a role in the franchise and i think Hallucination Billy is achieving that for the character (even though he's just a vision.)

Since that is likely the only representation of the event/person that she has actually seen.

My only gripe with some of the stabbings is that no one in the scenes after they've been stabbed, is limping around or showing scars. Kirby showed hers but Tara was stabbed clear through her hand in 5. There would be some definite nerve damage. Chad should've had some sort of limp like Dewey. He was stabbed TF up in 5. Tara was stabbed in the back in the final act but by the last scene she acts like nothing happened. And damn, they took out Richie's ENTIRE family aside from his mom. I am STILL waiting for Tara and Samantha's mother to show up in 7. I think that will be a good way to tie Sidney back into the franchise bc their mom and Sidney would've been in high school at the same time. For 7 the mother DEFINITELY needs to show up.
