They got popular, Dewey could be upset that she killed him off in her book so she killed herself off in the second book but then went back on it near the end since they revealed she survived. That would at least kind of bring back the meta aspect of the original trilogy.

What if 5 & 6 were Stab movie spin-offs and all the characters were from books by Gale? Syd wasn't in 6 because she asked Gale to stop writing about her. Gale kills Dewey and officer Hicks in her books because she was pissed at them! It's the "it was all a dream" premise made famous in the 80's with shows like Dallas, and St. Elsewhere. It was ridiculous but people went with it.(sort of)😂

Scream V & VI were books that were made into “Scream” movies as a rival to the Stab movies. At the very start of Scream 7, Gale and her teenage daughter are traveling to LA from Woodsboro to oversee the movie. Dewey didn’t die because his death was a part of her books to movies. Dewey is still married to Gale and Dewey is still the sheriff.

With Scream 5, although I was upset that Dewey died, I still expected that it would happen. With regards to Scream 6, I think the point was that we were all expecting someone from the main cast to die, but they didn't but were being held back for the next chapter.

You could say that Dewey survived but went into some form of witness protection via Kirby and go the coma route. This would explain why he wasn't in six. What makes this hard is his death seemed pretty definitive. At the time people said Scream 6 was so great but I always thought it didn't have any stakes because no one died. Some people were stabbed and shot brutally and bounced by like daisies. Thanks for pointing this out.

Gales is the last girl … Scream 7 twist is Sidney dies and Gale is the last girl she is scream …. Opening scene is a rip from each scream -- the first one is a a stab scene, opening into the scream 4 fake intro and scream 2 the movie theatre but now on a kids iPad and it’s Tatum, Sidney “child” the twist at end is it is dewy and gales child that they couldn’t take care of ….. now scream 3 is the scene of the opening mark Kincaid is Cotton and is girlfriend is a babysitter with Tatum. The Ghostface kills both and takes Tatum. Leaving a note Scream 5 a victim survivors and scream 6 where you now follow the Ghostface after the murder but don’t show him. Sidney finds out and is on a hunt like psycho she heads to find her child and end up at a “bates” motel … you think she is getting killed like the lady in Pyscho but no she is taken and the bellhop is murdered Sidney is taken cause she killed Sam and Tara mom after finding out she helped kill her mom. Tatum is taken for Gale to come. Fate that scene you enter Sam’s therapy session and she is having nightmares her father Billy warns her of a old trouble we all think Stu cause he does show up later on death row where they talk to him and he is the start of a Reddit cult. But what she is experiencing is the nightmare man “Freddy Kruger” bring that element of a new horror and play homage to Wes…. Have everybody come back to Woodsboro after the death of Martha and Chad Meeks … I have so much more to this if anyone wants to know and work on something I’m here… have it be up to Sam but she sacrifice her life but come up in Tara dreams like Carrie end bring Dewey back like Randy in a video left about what’s been happening in Woodsboro

They're not read conning 5 and 6 okay. It's impossible to do something like that. In the scream franchise because it may be fictional but it's meta. And then establish the rules a long time ago. If Dewey comes back it's going to be in a dream sequence. It will not be an alternate timeline or timeline restart. In fact they said they're going to be doing a time jump!

The Chad thing 100%, he should have died. Gale not so much. I like how they did it and what they did. Edge of seat stuff until the last second. It worked well with Gale. She fought the most brutal ghostface and survived. Let's keep her in scream 7 so she can be main full force with Sidney again, fight harder more complex ghostfaces and if she MUST die 🙄 I'd rather it in scream 9 as Gale is such a good character. If it's a new trilogy, definitely keep her until 9

Personally, I think they should let Dewy lie. Don't bring him back, keep the integrity. I also feel that both Sidney and Gale should be off limits for killing. They've gone through too much to get it now. Be like tripping at the one yard line. And realistically Gale doesn't get the credit she deserves. She's basically just as much a final girl as Sidney at this point. At this point I think they should retire Gales character gracefully and let her go with a happy ending. Typically she gets involved by running in wanting to help save the day. But getting older, Dewy dying, coming so close to death in 6, and her first phone conversation with ghost face, this is when she would likely say I'm done. And she had Kirby to step and an take her place. You don't need to kill the characters to get them out of the franchise. But more on topic Scream, being a horror/ mystery has always held itself to a higher standard. It would be incredibly disappointing if they just started killing characters and bringing them back out of convenience. Especially since they had sooo many new characters. There was and is no shortage of potential body count.

My husband was devastated. Frankly, I didn't mind it. I was just glad they didn't kill Gale. I know some people don't understand this but it is so incredibly rare for a character like Gale to exist in anything these days. She is tough as nails, smart, sexy, hard yet sensitive and caring. She is cut throat but not evil. Female characters never get to be this awesome and fleshed out. I could only name a handful right now and most of those are from the 80's. They really did her character dirty in part 6 though. I don't think the Gale that was set up through that time would have written another book seeing as how she didn't really need to. It was a huge mistake on the part of the writers of that film. But anyway, Dewey is great but honestly he was the one that had to go. I'm glad Gale is back for the sequel. I just hope they don't kill her off. She's too amazing and I want to be her. Honestly I do

Sure, she was helping herself too but what's wrong with that? You see, men get to be tough and ambitious but when a female is like that, she has questionable morals. It's so hypocritical. I think movies 1-5 Gale was just ambitious. She did not have questionable morals. She put her life in danger several times to save others. She help solved the crimes. She even gave up a career to live in Woodsborro for 10 years for Dewey. And when it was her turn, and they moved to NY, he just up and left her after 6 months. I would be very annoyed and upset if they bring Dewey back. I love Dewey and he's my favorite character, I'll be upset if we pretend like 5 & 6 just didn't exist, and that would be when I don't take the franchise serious anymore. It would start to feel like every other horror franchise with films that don't matter and just makes the overall story make sense. Dewey had to die and I stand by that because we have the same three people surviving and basically we have three confirmed survivors and maybe one extra person which is how it went in scream 1, 2, 3, and 4 because technically with how scream 4 ended Kirby was dead and so it was the big 3 and one extra person. I'm very annoyed still with 6 for not having the guts to kill off Mindy or Chad or even Tara who I suspected to actually get killed as we got closer to the finale. I feel like if we just keep killing and bringing people back because people want to bring back Stu and now Dewey while we also got Kirby back and even though when I watched 4 I believed her to be alive that was still something not confirmed until the requels. I'd love to see Dewey back in a flashback, video, or even a prequel one day. It would ruin the format and overall backbone of scream if we start bringing dead characters back and ignoring films. The take away from Scream 6 is that you can literally get stabbed anywhere (gut, kidney, chest) multiple times and totally fkn live. Mindy literally leaves the hospital after a deep knife wound in her stomach to skip to the crime scene to check on her friends. You could hear the implausible groans in the audience. Such nonsense. Nah, this would end it for me. As much as I loved Dewey. The original 3. It doesn't make sense to bring him back. I was sad when he died, but one of the 3 had to die some time. Like it's inevitable. 6, as much as I loved Gale. The way how aggressive ghostface was, I had accepted that she was going to die, hell she had finally got a call and fought the hardest of any character against ghostface. I teared up a bit. But it was also bad ass of how she fought hard. It just showed how bad ass of a character she is. But when they said she had a weak pulse. I got rubbed the wrong way. I even got disappointed when they didn't even show a hospital scene with her fighting for her life. (A Halloween Kills Laurie) moment. They could've gave Dewey this kind of scene as well in 5. As much as these characters are loved by the whole fan base, I expected these filmmakers, who were supposedly fans themselves to give these OG characters their flowers, even if the movie includes them dying or seriously injured. Hell, just make it good. Make it make sense. This goes along with Chad. Like make it realistic, no one would have survived those many stabs. I don't care who you are. These were my two flaws for 5 and 6. Though I still enjoyed them. I think skipping events of both films and bringing Dewey back and pretending 5 and 6 never happened would be really stupid.

The last time a legacy character died before Scream 2022 was Cotton Weary in Scream 3, and that came out like 20 years before. Dewey's time was up and we should all accept that. No alternate timelines, no retcons where Sam and Tara were made up characters in a fanfic, no lazy copouts along those lines. They killed him off, and they absolutely cannot go back on that where they risk turning Scream into Stab.

Halloween was retconed over and over again. And many aspects of that universe changed. So, Scream could follow in that respect. I dunno how I'd feel about it, but Dewey and Hicks gone is gonna leave a hole in every following instalment. Sid, Gale, Mark, and Kirby are left. If you kill them off and leave Sid, what's the point? "When you're friends with Sidney, you die." But, what's a Scream movie with an entirely new cast, and Sidney? It'd be weird, awkward, and would really only be hanging on by a thread. I love Sidney to death, but a movie with her alone alongside a new cast...I dunno. You can't kill everyone. Having them survive over and over showcases their ability to survive tragedy, and their survival instincts as humans; think Saw: you wanna survive you find a way.

@@17chris18 Difference here is that Scream is supposed to be more grounded in reality. It's one of the _few_ long-running horror franchises that's kept a single cohesive timeline that has little to zero massive retcons. The point of Scream is to provide social commentary on horror movies at the time that do things like that and actually doing things like having different timelines (like one where Dewey wasn't killed and ignoring Scream 2022) would ruin it.

But… you say Scream was about subverting expectations… then they subverted your expectations by having a lot of survivors in 6 and now - because Dewey is dead - the whole point was to kill lots of characters? You can’t subvert expectations by doing the same all the time. Just because an important character dies in 5 doesnt mean another has to in 6. Would you be happy if Chad was dead? Like what’s your point? We had our 3 mains in the first trilogy, the new movies wanted a new main 4 survivors. Dewey’s death was heart wrenching, it was really cool that we got to have such an emotional moment in a Scream movie, I think.

I would be very annoyed and upset if they bring Dewey back. I love Dewey and he's my favorite character, I'll be upset if we pretend like 5 & 6 just didn't exist, and that would be when I don't take the franchise serious anymore. It would start to feel like every other horror franchise with films that don't matter and just makes the overall story make sense. Dewey had to die and I stand by that because we have the same three people surviving and basically we have three confirmed survivors and maybe one extra person which is how it went in scream 1, 2, 3, and 4 because technically with how scream 4 ended Kirby was dead and so it was the big 3 and one extra person. I'm very annoyed still with 6 for not having the guts to kill off Mindy or Chad or even Tara who I suspected to actually get killed as we got closer to the finale. I feel like if we just keep killing and bringing people back because people want to bring back Stu and now Dewey while we also got Kirby back and even though when I watched 4 I believed her to be alive that was still something not confirmed until the requels. I'd love to see Dewey back in a flashback, video, or even a prequel one day. It would ruin the format and overall backbone of scream if we start bringing dead characters back and ignoring films. This is not fucking Halloween.

@@jdogjohnson382 He most certainly can be...his death did hurt and I did cry in theaters when I first watched it. I completely understand it though because one of them did have to die and sadly we weren't gonna get that impact from Gale and then Sydney is never dying. I love Dewey and he will always fall at the top of my character rankings no matter what but I've come to terms with them killing him off. I love him and I still remain a fan of David outside of the scream films but I also as a fan of the franchise don't want the integrity of these films to be ruined because we as fans are "mad" that a character is dead.
