Much appreciation for this, Roskoe. This haunts me because Angelina Jordan was taken with it so young! I feel his pain, his pain, pain. And can we not all relate?? Yes, the blues/jazz stuff. And that music "back then" could get an artist "black-listed." To some people's tastes he was overly dramatic. But just listen to this. This is pure poetry. I really would like Angelina to revisit this song. Instead of a "child" she could sing "woman" or even "man." God it is such a poem, with so much truth in it. "...how can I paint a smile and eyes that keep turning away..." He was usually on piano. "I'm using all the colors of blue I have here on my stand...." while singing the blues. Plus Angelina was painting, too, so she really understands. Yes, all those dudes. And he really knew some blues. You could make it an "Old Blues" playlist. You be safe, too. I understand he was actually trained as an operatic singer but couldn't find work doing that due to race at the time time period so wound up doing other things. I hadn't heard this one before so thank you for showing it.
