joshua kim The heels job is out over the face If a heel is to good or rather fo Sympathetic then what is the point of cheering for the baby face All it’s doing is forcing us to like the villain or for the hero unless you get a situation like the latest Star Wars movies where no hero or villain is likable
@aionicthunder4 жыл бұрын
mystic1410 Having a sympathetic villain is perfectly fine. Take a look at Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. For the first season, he is the primary antagonist for team Avatar. But that doesn’t prevent the audience from sympathising with him, primarily because of the reason he hunts Aang in the first place. This doesn’t reduce his ability to act as a villain, as his actions still put him against the good guys, thus making him a bad guy. Basically, my point is that being sympathetic does not make someone less capable as a villain because they can be villainous through what they do

It’s like they confuse “the villain had a point” with “the villain was actually the good guy” just because a villain has a good point about something, doesn’t mean they’re right in their actions. It’s the exception that makes them a villain. You can have a good point and still be a horrible person with corrupt morals and horrible actions. This is a toxic mindset, I’m glad you touched upon it.
@Thedarkbunnyrabbit4 жыл бұрын
Basically exactly this. They've confused 'they've got a point' with 'they're right, you know'. Though in some cases they don't even have that.

Then you have the bad sides, of putting Morty in danger, "teaching" lessons, deleting his memories, a massive alcoholic, being extremely selfish etc. However, one more good thing: Morty sees Rick as a bad example in terms of human behaviour to the point where Morty ends up doing the exact opposite of Rick. Meaning technically he is a good influence. But that's like calling Hitler and Stalin a role models for us because we don't cause mass human genocide, which is the opposite of causing mass genocide. Which, again, technically is true.

The list really is a lot longer XD heck the show even states that the Rick we follow is the most reckless Rick of them all, and maybe also the most intelligent. Yes that is what Rick and Morty is all about challenge, as they rightfully say from Ricks perspective he surely does call himself that... but from rest of humanity.... well not so much. Its this modern idea that everything can be negotiated and truth is a subjective thing. And yes that is theoretically true. But why the F are we trying to view the world from a "none-human" standpoint, we are humans!. it makes no sense trying to ague moral from a none-human perspective, when we discussing what is humanly moral.

While you can be smart and kind, just look at any of the modern day geniuses and you’ll find a huge pile of dicks with a few good people. @sorryifoldcomment8596 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Kindness is smart. If you want people to help you, then you need them to care about you. And the one way to make sure that no one cares about you is advertising how much you don't care about anyone else. How can you count on anyone to help you if no one can count on you to help them? The only way you can consistently demand help from others is by helping them first. And being smart should be a strength. "Smartest person in the universe" portrays someone who is also strong and whose brain is not limited. But Rick is weak and pathetic. His brain can't handle caring about other people. He's not strong enough to be kind, even for selfish reasons. It's silly. If he was actually smart, he'd realize that he'd only benefit from putting effort into fostering a positive relationship with his family. That way he could rely on them to actually want to help him, not out of obligation. Shouldn't be too hard to handle for such a smart guy, no? He looks down at kindness & love as "weak animal shit." But if it requires so little effort that even weak & pathetic animals can handle it...then why does he struggle so much with it. Reminds me of the family therapy episode. Rick is so weak that he will do anything to get out of therapy... he'll take on huge challenges that involve serious physical risk and lots of "brain power"...but sitting in a room with 4 other people and just having a calm discussion for an hour? His brain isn't powerful enough for that. Ironic that he spits on therapy as "stupid" - therefore meaning it should be easy for any smart person - but literally can't handle it. 😂 Sorry /end rant lol

You can still love someone even if they are abusive. Many people in my family I love despite them being abusive. Abuse is complicated, I would never excuse his actions, but that's not his defining trait. I do find this is often the case among families that worship one attribute above all others (intellect, athletic prowess, monetary value), as abuse is internally justified as loving, as anything that motivates someone to meet the standards of that attribute is improving them and their lives. In my family, intellect is worshiped above all else, and my grandfather is essentially Rick Sanchez (the smartest man in the universe, and a pitiable fool), which is why I love the show so much, though my family is mostly Ricks and Beths, as Summer, Jerry, and Morty wouldn't really be accepted.

Mr. Incredible may have been a bit brusque with him, but he was absolutely right not to let him be "Incrediboy." @nihili4196 Жыл бұрын
This. And honestly, if explained right, it would be a compelling argument. From his perspective and experience, Mowgli was weird exception, mostly due to growing up in the jungle, away from the humans. And he truly believed that Mowgli obtaining fire and guns was only matter of time, and since he was so familiar with the jungle, letting him live was a mistake. Shere Khan is still a villain, but his motivations are justified and, I would argue, to some extend just. Probably the only good pick from that list tho.

Dude, my father was legitimately abusive to myself and my sibling. We're talking physically, verbally, and in some cases in another way too. My mother was also complacent, beaten into submission by this monster of a man, to where she was psychologically unable to raise a finger against him. The stuff they are saying in this video is sometimes almost *word-for-word* the kind of rhetoric my father would use to justify his actions. "I'm just doing to make you stronger." he'd say after a beating, or some other justification of why his intentions were good so it didn't matter what the outcome was. "Obviously you don't mind it that much, you stick around". he's saying, ignoring the times one of us would try to run away. And, of course, the ever present shift of blame in: "If you had just been a little nicer, I wouldn't have to have done this", which would be used to justify literally any horrendous act. If the writers for this show are being genuine in their beliefs, and not just writing ragebait or something, they are sociopaths, and if they have families, the authorities should be called to check on their domestic situation. The whole "on a trip, but not what you think its for" didn't return laughs for me, it was extremely sad and morbid, because that was exactly where I sat once. For me, it was my brother, who is easily the most savvy and intelligent person I've ever known, but has chased me around the kitchen with his fists as I begged for him to stop. People like the one behind screenrants are desperate for interesting people to give their lives meaning, and they'll perform all sorts of mental gymnastics in order to paint these interesting people as individuals of moral character they can and should empathise with. They absolutely need the room to excuse the sort of behavior that comes out of these people. I know because I used to do it. People allow him to use the fact that he found our father's body as an excuse to live the entire rest of his life as a narcissistic asshole who uses other people and then throws them away. When Morty says to Birdperson that "Rick isn't that complicated", and birdperson scoffs, I don't think it's meant to be interpreted wholly as birdperson being the one with insight, because that's exactly how I felt about all of my brothers orbiters once the magic wore off on me. After a while, when people would talk about him in this way, I could tell they were narrativizing and dramatizing his life into something explaining away the anti-social behavior he gets into once he gets what he wants. Everyone, including our mother believes in what can only be described as a purposefully constructed narrative which carefully explains away any of his personal responsibility in life as something we can't expect from someone so "horribly torn up inside".

This is actually why I love R&M, because of the subtext about discovering someone you love and look up to is a narcissist that will never reform, and happily leave you totally empty, and then falling out of this love. For me, this is why the newer seasons don't work as well, because they're functioning less and less as vehicles for dispelling Ricks mystique, and more as something to build his grandiosity. Vindicators is a perfect example of this, because while it does attempt to deconstruct Rick, it does by painting him as hyper capable, destroying the opposition in a drunken stupor, as opposed to doing something so outlandishly selfish, it causes us to double take. A much more "season 1 take" would have been something like bushwacked adventures. Say he meets the big bad, has the vindicators and the big bad partying, and somewhere down the line, Rick kills the big bad over something stupid and trivial after the audience has just gotten used to this new status quo where everyone is acting totally fucking possessed by ricks personality, and "who gives a fuck" spirit, which these types of people bring out in others.

The whole “Rick is a good grandfather bc Morty spends time so much time with him” and “rick is teaching morty lessons so it’s ok” is utterly ridiculous. Looking past the time that morty LITERALLY TRIED TO KILL RICK BY SHOOTING HIM IN THE HEAD, the fact of the matter is that this is an abusive relationship, and morty seems to spend time with his grandfather so that his other family members don’t, almost like an abused spouse not wanting their partner to be near their children. You could argue that’s alittle far fetched however (despite morty going out of his way and risking his life to show summer how awful he is and how he shouldn’t be glorified). What i think is undebatable is the fact that there is clearly a bit of Stockholm syndrome going on. Just like in abusive relationships, the person being abused is convinced that deep down, their abuser (whether it be “significant other” , parental figure, or “friend”) truly loves them, and is only doing it because it’s what’s best for them. “He’s only hurting me because how else will I learn” is one that I’ve legitimately heard a few times when being with actual victims of these environments. Ricks “horrible, painful, but ultimately important lessons” you glorify are on the same caliber as a man beating his wife for not having dinner ready fast enough. Good job screenrant

Most clickbait doesn't have any worse consequences than wasting time and drawing attention away from better content. But the "Rick Is A Good Grandparent" video could have a serious negative impact on someone's life. Even though SR are only doing it with fictional characters, trying to justify an abusive relationship like this normalises it. Someone in a real abusive relationship could see the video, and leave a bit further away from realising the truth of their relationship. It's the same reason I despise unskilled writers who unwittingly put their characters in abusive relationships.

Exactly. The only lesson that Morty (and therefore the audience) learned from that, along with basically everything Rick does, is that he can't trust Rick to keep him safe. He definitely can't expect Rick to be a good grandfather. It's hilarious that they reference Morty surviving (physically) as a point in favor of Rick. Rick doesn't save Morty...the writers do. Morty should be dead just from the intro. Broken legs is one thing but getting eaten and devoured by an alien beast is another. But if he dies, then the episode can't happen! Morty is only "safe" for as long as the show "Rick and MORTY" continues to produce more episodes. Sorry /end rant lol
