Hey @ScreenCrush. I believe the connection between ahsoka and the water is like a clone wars episode (lost episodes) with Yoda. He hears Qui-Gon's voice. And he attempts an isolation meditation in a bacta tank in an attempt to figure out what was going on. In that episode, Yoda almost died but because of being so close to death, he was able to go deeper than he could any other way until Qui-Gon said to stop. The same could be said of Luke when he almost died on Hoth, and he had a super spiritual vision of Obi Wan despite not having the training yet to perceive those things. But back to Yoda, that was the first step in training to keep his consciousness after death. So when Anakin says that he's there to complete her training, I suspect that is what he's talking about. Because in the episode with Yoda he had to face his demons including his dark side before he was deemed worthy to begin that journey. So back to Ahsoka, I suspect it wasn't the world between worlds, but actually her being very close to death, which is why Anakin said, he wasn't expecting to see her there so soon (i.e. too young to die yet--despite the getting old comment).

Baylan said the future path was clouded, the clouds over seatos wouldn't let him see 'the path' / purgil. Ahsoka could not either. After her lesson with Anakin the Path becomes clear, full with Purgil. This was all hinted at with Baylan saying "Her presence in the force is elusive, but her determination is Vivid." Just like her determination to grow past the clone wars and thusly Anakin was a vivid vision. Her elusiveness being falling into the WBWs in their duel. Baylan obviously has Precognition but the writing is showing EVERYTHING Baylan has to say to ANYONE is important....from a certain point of view..

There's another subtle meaning to "I choose to live." Vader consistently says that he "killed" Anakin. Ahsoka recognizes this, and says he chooses not to kill off her current self for the sake of (dark side) power. Ironically, she ends up becoming more powerful in the light side.

Her choosing to train Sabine seems like it is a safe choice because someone with no connection to the force can't possibly become a threat. Meanwhile she could have been training Jacen. Failing to train Jacen properly would actually have consequences that bring her worst fears to light.

I think what lends credence to it being THE Anakin is that he appears to learn through the flashbacks as well. I believe Anakin starts out wanting to remind her what she's fighting for in order to spark her to want to live, but realizes in the Mandalore scene that's not what's making her want to give up and so changes to a more direct approach. Ahsoka is well aware of the lives she has and can still save and why she needs to, but there's that lingering 'what if' in her mind. What if she is just as tainted by the dark side as Anakin was? Look at the damage Anakin did as Vader. Maybe Ahsoka falling down the same path is to big a risk. Once Anakin realizes this is her hang up he decided oh she's gonna confront this head on then. No more suppressing it.
@WyzgalBert Жыл бұрын
Everyone must confront their own Darkside, and how we choose to deal with it says everything about that person. Ahsoka ran away from it for years, but you can never run away from yourself. She denied BOTH the light & the dark. She believed it made her balanced, but all it did was delay her inner trial. Close to death, she was finally able to face her inner demons, and become one with the light side of the force. I wonder- will Baylon notice the difference?

I like Anakin and I like Vader but I am not a fan of this take in The Chosen One story. Anakin and Vader are the same person but they have a lot of diferences. For example, Anakin smiled a lot, Vader never smiled. Anakin had some humour, Vader never tossed a joke. And suddenly Filoni gives us the old Ani with two or three seconds of yellow eyes?!?!? Vader, as a part of Anakin, became one with The Force too, but in this episode is like if he did not existed to generate conflict in Anakin mind and actions. Anakin lived way longer as Vader than he lived as himself. His voice as Vader, his way to move and act were a convergence of all his life; so why to bring back old good Ani? In my humble opinion, an Anakin ghost cannot be a ghost like the friendly Obi Wan. That force ghost must have two sides facing each other at all the time and must scare the shit out of Ahsoka, Luke, Leia and the rest of all the characters. The redemption of Anakin cannot exist in afterlife without the profound scars of being Vader for 25 years. Redemption do not consist in only a momment of regret. Anakin should, at least, ask to be forgiven because he was not there for Ahsoka and for the whole rest of his actions. For me, if Anakin is destined to bring balance to the force he must show to all of the living jedi that Dark and Light are two faces of the same coin called Balance.

Arveranteos, there’s one line of dialogue between Anakin and Ahsoka that wasn’t mentioned here, one that proves that it was his ghost. One where she tells him she will not fight him, and he responds with that he heard that before, something she wouldn’t know about. A KZbin channel Stupendous Wave pointed that out
@TheAdultInTheRoom74 Жыл бұрын
I’d also like to piggyback on Ahsoka returning to the water, or rather, the water returning to her, to bring her back to the real world. This is very reminiscent of baptisms held in a river, where the baptized is lowered and briefly submerged in the water. Even the way her head falls back as the water reaches it kinda screams this sentiment. This is her baptism into her new role as “Ahsoka the White.” And I haven’t heard anyone make the connection yet between the the very close resemblance of the shimmery blue aura of the world between worlds and the shimmery blue aura of force ghosts in the real world. It seems to me that a force user who has learned to keep their physical form in tact after death might do so through this realm and that this is why they appear to the living this way. This is why Anakin’s force ghost inside the world between worlds appears normal. It would only be if he, or any force ghost, tried to physically manifest in the real world that he would appear as one of the force ghosts we all know and love, with their shimmery blueness.

I am a little confused by this response, as I wasn’t really addressing any of that stuff in my comment, but I gotta say, I generally agree with most of what you’re saying, and the stuff I would challenge is nit picky, like, how do you know he never smiled under that helmet? If he was conflicted, as Luke sensed, he must have had some moments to himself that let his humanity come through briefly. But yes, if the short version of what you’re saying that Vader got off pretty easy as far as redemption is concerned, unless there’s some other stuff we don’t know about yet, I’d have to agree.

3:40 my theory on how Ahsoka got to the WBW. I think just like how Ezra pulled her through a portal, Anakin pulled her, after she fell off the cliff, (like mid fall or something) and this WBW looks slightly different (no other portals) because Anakin controls what Ahsoka sees because he's teaching her, her last lesson. I also feel that this Anakin is what he became after death, I think he's become a "The Father" type being. This is how he can switch between the dark side and the light side, he's fully balanced now. He became dark at the end of their fight to teach Ahsoka a lesson and then once Ahsoka says she chooses to live, Anakin takes a step back to breathe and came back to the light (closed his Sith eyes and opened his light eyes) , to show Ahsoka she's learned a lesson.

Soka was a good fighter, but even lucas and filoni said she had lost to maul but maul's over confidence was his downfall. With her fight w vader, I think vader allowed her to disarm him because that was the test. In martial arts presumably the teacher can always beat the student. Thank you. When your master says he's teaching you a lesson, this isn't going to be about defeating your master or saving him. Anakin was saving Asohka from herself by teaching her how to let go of her fear. Fear of the past and fear of the future. Great episode. Only wish the series had better writing to set this episode up. You never really get the sense she needs saving until she's saved in this episode. But in hindsight the clues were there. And I wish the whole idea of training Sabine would be called out as a fear based decision by Asohka. She should have been training Jacen, but there was no risk in failing to train a person who has no ability.

Based on TWBW appearance in "the ancient Jedi texts" Rey stole from the tree on Ach-To I'm pretty firmly in the camp that TWBW is related to hyperspace, the Mortis entities, the "ancient race" (probably also the Mortis entites) from the other galaxy, the hyperspace map to the galaxy, and the understanding of The Force in the SW galaxy.

It's simple training and to bring balance within Ahsoka and Anakin appears to Ahsoka in the way that she wants to remember him, not as the last form she seen him as. Anakin using his pre-sith Form V fighting style while he had a blue Lightsaber then switching to his Post-Sith/Darth Vader Form V fighting style that relies on force enhanced, heavy strikes when he switches to a red Lightsaber with soth eyes is so damn good. This episode was seriously amazing, except for Hera allowing Jacen to accompany her on what she fully expected to be a dangerous mission. That part blows my mind, especially with space mom Hera, who always looked out for everyone's safety first. But nope, "yes, you can come with me! I'll even let you hit the hyper drive!" Lol

Pretty good and optimistic interpretation, the problem is that it falls flat precisely because they really don’t do a good job setting it up in prior episodes for this payoff. They should have had scenes of Asoka trying to achieve balance but struggling and expositing that guilt. Instead we just see an over-stoicism that goes unexplained in the narrative. I think once again D+ writers missed a great opportunity here.

Except her stoicism isn't really showing anybody there's a problem. I think showing her trying to train force insensitive Sabine should have been a red flag... even Hu Yang (sp?) is passive aggressively calling it out as unorthodox. But not sure they are intending it to be a red flag, and if it is a symptom, they aren't conveying it well for the audience. To me, trying to train Sabine shows that Asohka is playing it safe and fears training someone who could actually be consequential if they turn to the dark side. Meanwhile, young, force sensitive Jacen has been in her orbit with no master.

Great breakdown, as usual. Whether what happened to Ahsoka was real or not is immaterial. But, I like to think that the Force was trying to teach her her last lesson and pulled her consciousness to a way-station that looks like the WBW. And since Anakin had become part of the cosmic force, they used his essence (so in a way it was him) to teach her this so she could learn to let go. On a side note, Ahsoka's inner journey reminded me SOOOOOO much of the side quest in Final Fantasy 6 where you go into Cyan's soul to help him deal with similar guilt.

I thought for sure this video was going to get into the last three episodes of Clone Wars S6. For fans of Jung, Campbell and Tolkien (and more) that mini arc was brilliantly crafted and realized. But there are so many aspects in that arc which connect to Ahsoka - both clearly and subtly - that it would take up an entire video. All the way to the very last shot of the last episode, there are so many parallels that Feloni obviously ran with. As a lover of mythological lore and allegory, this show is awesome - both CW and Ahsoka

Excellent videos as usual. Love the content. I thought the episode reminded me of Dickens A Christmas Carole. The ghosts of past and future etc. keep up the good work Karl from shrewsbury England

Come On Ryan!!!! The Jedi's Plan was for Luke to kill Vader!!!!!!! Obi-Wan says so: "you must face Darth Vader again" Luke: "I can't kill my own father!" Obi-Wan: "then the Emperor has already won", it's right there, the audio commentary of Return of the Jedi has George saying that the Jedi wanted this unspeakable act. Please, let's keep things straight! On the other hand all this construction about "Ahsoka's Guilt", unfortunately Anakin NEVER tells her something profound!!! he never says something like "you have to let me go, you have to let go of your guilt" he NEVER says that, that's why Anakin's appearance was a wasted opportunity, let's stop making excuses and justifications for poor writing, they botched it!

Thank you for saying this. Just because Yoda doesn't tell Luke "kill Vader" it's entirely the outcome he and Obi-Wan want.

4:28 If its any consolation Doug; my grandfather made me and my sister eat whole raw onions every time we lost at checkers and chess with him whenever he was watching us for the day. He also used to make us eat oatmeal with salt.... So eating a single raw sweet white onion is all in all not the worst thing Ryan could be doing for lunch.

Another reference to LoTR: the code name used during the making of this show was “Stormcrow” which is the name King Theoden gave Gandalf, a reference to his arrival being associated with times of trouble. Dave Filoni is a big LoTR fan.

This absolutely incredible how much detail is explained on the symbolism. Little missed opportunity though. At 17:59 you could have inserted a long haired dooku joke.

This was one of the best scenes in all of Star Wars. They crushed it.

I think at its core, her vision is showing her to release her convictions of her past. She has to come to the realization that she cannot alter her past, but influence her present and future

I feel that she was actually in the world between worlds because Jason "heard" battling. If it was in her mind i don't see why he would have heard that

When Ezra met and actually saw Yoda in Rebels, they were surrounded by stars in a area similarly to where Ahsoka and Anakin are here. That was Yoda's force ghost, and I believe this was Anakin's force ghost. Both shows led by Filoni, no doubt this is the case here.
@richardhood3717 Жыл бұрын
It would not have been Yoda's force ghost because Yoda was not dead yet. He had not trained Luke yet. It would be a force projection like what Luke did in the sequels.

@@richardhood3717 You're right! I forgot this was before Maul even appeared in Rebels, meaning Ep IV and V haven't happened yet.

It is deliciously horrid what Palpatine did to the Jedi's reputation with the Clone Wars. When you were talking about their being forced to be soldiers and warriors instead of peacekeepers, my thoughts went to Bib Fortuna saying to Jabba about Luke, "Bargain rather than fight? He's not Jedi." No one remembers the Jedi's real job in the galaxy any more by the time of Mando/Ahsoka.

There’s one line of dialogue between Anakin and Ahsoka that wasn’t mentioned here, one that proves that it was his ghost. One where she tells him she will not fight him, and he responds with that he heard that before, something she wouldn’t know about. A KZbin channel Stupendous Wave pointed that out.

This reminds me of how Cal had to confront his own guilt near the end of Jedi: Fallen Order (by confronting his dead master), only worse in every way - worse acting, (non)build-up, (non)emotional impact. It's funny that the games have more emotional impact than the big budget tv shows (Trilla > Reva; wiping BD-1's memory > wiping C-3PO's memory; etc.)

I think Anakin was really there but molded to how Ahsoka sees him. She had guilt and fear that she would become what he was so she started to close herself off to avoid her emotions to not live a meaningful life. But when she chooses to live she can now see Anakin as how he was always meant to be. The person who helped her and taught her. Everything he was is now in her but she made the decision Anakin could not. To go through life and live despite all its pain and hardships.

I really want to see the BTS of this episode. It looked like Hayden had a lot of say in how the fights were choreographed. He knew precisely what he was doing holy hell

As always Ryan great explanation 👍🏻 new rockstars dived into it too, but yours definitely explained it more thoroughly for us folk who haven't seen rebels. I loved this episode & it gives me hope that they can still make great stuff on Disney +.... I don't like all the weird negatively from some people about this series. It's like there's a divide between those of us old enough to have watched the prequels & those that are younger in terms of who likes it or not.

It's funny my only complaint so far has been that Ahsoka has been so dour and serious and different from the Ahsoka we know from Clone Wars, and I really like the idea that it's because of her trauma and guilt, and that she'll come out of her shell by the end of the series and reconnect with the "snippy" Ahsoka we all remember.
@k2sworld Жыл бұрын
FINALLY!!! Someone other than me has opened their eyes and seen the obvious. It's NOT Anakin and it's NOT the WBW. It's a vision from The Force like Luke experienced in The Tree on Dagobah while Ahsoka was in the water.
