I haven't SEEN Lion King 2.0, but would it be possible just to re-cut the old Honest Trailer with the new footage? It would be hilarious if that was the Honest Trailer for the new one with a bit at the end of "and if this all sound's familiar, that because we just rehashed the old trailer. hey if Disney can be lazy, so can we."

On the movie, Jafar was the biggest miss in the remake while before the movie everyone thought Will Smith would be (and it turned out his role was quite solid!) In general, love Dan's muted "did not care for it." in reference to Dumbo.

I haven't actually seen this yet (I haven't been bothered, but I will) but that was the feeling I got from the trailer. They really needed someone like Jeremy Irons, or Charles Dance, someone who can really ham it up but be terrifying at the same time. This guy just seemed like nothing...

Why didn't you guys ever critique the fact that the Genie never grants Aladdin's first wish in either the new or old versions? He wishes to become a prince, but he doesn't become one. All he gets is a wardrobe change, the genie acting as an attendant, and has some people to show off in an impromptu song and dance that are never seen again. A prince that does not make. If the Genie granted his wish, he wouldn't be "lying" to Jasmine by keeping up his story.

I caught that jab Dan! I know I'm the only person in the world apparently who's said this, but I really enjoyed Guy Ritchie's King Arthur. Not only do I own it on Blu-ray, but I even bought the movie poster. I actually lament the fact that I won't be able to see any of the other Arthur movies that he had in his head. I for one think it would have been super interesting to see what version of Lancelot would have been ballsy enough to try to steal the witch version of Guinevere away from the mafioso curb stomping version of King Arthur. There was fun to be had in that movie. Besides, I honestly think that the problem that most people had with it was that it was so far removed from any other "grounded" version of an Arthurian Legend. King Arthur has gained such a status with in popular culture that there are people who actually postulate that he may have been real. It's a story about a man who ruled over a perfect Kingdom, who was gifted a magical sword either by a magic stone or a goddess in a lake, who also had a wizard as his confidant and advisor.......how can you not respect the movie for going full fantasy when that's what the story is?

After seeing this video, I'd also love to see a rendition of the Producers in which Dan played every role and over-acted them as much as he did here!

I haven't seen all of them yet, but for me Cinderella (2015) is by far the best Disney live-action remake (although Jungle Book is a solid runner-up). They made a lot of significant changes to that one that actually helped focus the film and deepen its (human) characters while also retaining some of the most wonderful moments of the original. To me, that makes a really well-balanced take on a classic that pays homage while also clearly trying to accomplish something different. Hiring Kenneth Branagh as its director was such a smart choice for it too, since so much of his early career focused on adapting Shakespeare so he clearly has experience having to make choices like that.

Unpopular opinion maybe? But Aladdin 2019 is my favorite remake out of all of them and I think it has to do with Jasmine's character and how they upped her ambition from wanting to marry for love to being sultan. The other remakes so far haven't revamped a character as much as Aladdin did with Jasmine. Seeing a princess that I can relate to and looks like me, overcome her barriers with "Speechless" was soooo empowering for me and I imagine others. Being told to be quiet and not speak happens all the time for girls from similar cultures and seeing Jasmine break that barrier brought me to tears. Still, love the honest trailer and I understand why other people may not like the movie, but maybe this viewpoint can help others appreciate it more :)

I don't mind movies having fictional Monarchies, as there were plenty that were succesful in real life (like Pre-Us Hawaii), but for some reason Disney always decides to have things both ways. They have a supposedly benevolent ruler, but also peasants tearing each other appart for bread. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I will say that I like how Jasmine seemed to be a competent leader here. In the OG she was just... girl. Here she actually has a really compelling story, as well as her relationship to the guard and her knowlege of foreign affairs. I do agree with Joe though, this movie has a looot of ideas they don't explore enough, and this is certainly one of them.

Something that always bothered me about the framing device in the animated version is that the storyteller is supposed to be trying to sell you the lamp that is no ordinary lamp, but at the end of the movie Aladdin wishes for the Genie's freedom, which turns it into an ordinary lamp.

I agree with the idea that this movie makes a good companion piece to the original - not as good, but good on its own merits imho. And Will Smith did as well as you could have hoped for anyone who had to replace Robin Williams as Genie, I doubt anyone could have pulled it off as good as Smith, because he is such a distinct but separate flavor of character from Williams. The things they added to the remake, some of them were just unnecessary, like the palace infiltration over the bracelet, and Jafar not going for power first and actually trying to rule. But some things did make sense and were fine, like them trying to find out where "Ababwa" actually is, and it's a clue Jafar uses to figure out Ali is Aladdin. It never occurred to me in the original movie that the issue is never raised that Jasmine isn't being approached about being Sultan, but yeah, that is odd, so I like they frame her reluctance to marry here not just was wanting to do it herself, but her not wanting to be wed to some foreign prince that just wants to marry her to get the kingdom. Overall, it was fine. Probably the best live-action remake Disney has put out so far.
