Member the golden days of movie fights? The days when we had movie belt tournaments, Alicia Malone spewing indie knowledge, Mundy annoying everyone, Spencer with his awesome dry humor, Murrell getting easily mad, Nicholson being weird, Hal bombing with his jokes but sometimes making classic ones like "Even a man in jail smiles from time to time", the Schmoes being schmoes, sometimes having Jahns or whiny Stuckmann, Carlson (he's just the best). Mantz, Roth and Rocha are great too. ... Ahh, those were the days.

I'm so glad that Dan won, not for the fact that I prefer him to Alicia and in my opinion he's a better fighter, but because he got so fucked over with the 3rd question. It wasn't 'what's the most disappointing movie from an Academy Award winning director?'. Dan made a clever point in choosing the Last Airbender which is definitely a worse movie, but just because Alicia didn't understand the question doesn't mean she should have won the point

Damn the dude who picked Superman should've won, just didn't play his cards right. Superman is superman because he's an Alien, the fact that he doesn't fit in with everyone around him, he has this inner struggle especially when he was a kid of wanting to fit in, but the fact is he is an alien and his people are all dead he will never get to meet his birth parents. It's an integral part of who superman is, if superman wasn't an alien and was born on earth but was just given powers somehow he wouldn't be the same.

Alien means different, and Superman is not that different from humans. Yes he has super powers but he has the same physiology, speaks the same language, has the same values. He is much closer to humans than the likes of the alien, the thing or whatever.
@NJ-wb1cz8 жыл бұрын
Klyptic Nah, you can replace him with a foreigner and that would hardly change anything about his character. He is an outsider, not a true alien. A true alien wouldn't even begin to have the concepts of love, friendship, belonging, responsibility, that Superman struggled with.
@pedrolinathetropicaldragon54818 жыл бұрын
I disagree because those traits are human. Not fitting in, the inner struggle of what we should and what we must do and how we'd be accepted for the things we did or didn't do, dealing with death: are things that happen to most humans. That's why we all relate to Superman. He goes through those things because he's an alien, but those are feelings that most humans go through at some point in their lives. The personality is not what makes a best alien. Because personality is something we all have. So being an alien and going through all this pain is, actually, what humanizes Superman. He's more human because he's an alien. And I always thought that this was a very smart paradox.

Krzysztof Willman I know right...People seem to press on the video with a mindset that they're not gonna like it, and surprise surprise they don't. And I get the impression that it's the same people who come just to complain or the same people who come to dislike it without even watching it.
@bebaguette7668 жыл бұрын
Krzysztof Willman Or then those are the real fans, people that were there from the beginning and watched every episode, but now for the past 6 months are not feeling it anymore due to the lack of quality this show used to provide. It's constructive criticism. Their views are dropping and they have way more dislikes on every fight than they used to. The ones that complain try to get their opinions heard and hope for them to improve the show before it'll be too late. It seems pretty likely that Andy doesn't seem to care though, Screen Junkies has grown and the quality of one of their least popular shows doesn't seem to matter anymore.

The 80s movie that deserves a remake is "1984". The whole purpose of a remake is to improve upon an average/bad movie to make it great. In my opinion the book "1984" is the greatest novel I have ever read yet I find it annoying to see its very middle of the road status. On IMDB it has a 7.2 rating and less than 50,000 people have cared to rate the movie. That proves that 1. It could be made better and 2. It has failed to effectively reach its audience. The message of 1984 is mightily important and universal so it should reach everyone and resonate with everyone. That's another reason why it could deserve a reboot now or say again 50 years from now is that its message must constantly be told and made as accessible as possible to the next generation. Alternatively if you had a particularly brave and intelligent person to oversee its development you could make "2084" and show the most dystopian trajectory that our society might well face.

question: who do you think is better, kurosawa or kubrick?
@bebaguette7668 жыл бұрын
mounir maged I like comparing average directors, but deciding between two of the best directors is not fun. Kurosawa has Rashomon, 7 Samurai, Ikiru, Yojimbo and over 15 other films ranging from good (The Hidden Fortress) to fantastic (Ran). He influenced action filmmaking, George Lucas, Spielberg, Leone and countless others. Kubrick made 13 films, the first two are absolutely awful, The Killing is alright but nothing special, Lolita is trash, Spartacus is good, Full-Metal Jacket is great. The rest are masterpieces. He's influenced a ton, but it's not quite as visible, no one can replicate or emulate his style or thinking. ... I'm a sucker for period pieces, Barry Lyndon is probably my favourite out of all of these films, but I'd say Kurosawa takes the cake. I'd say it's fair to say that kubrick is the greatest American filmmaker, Bergman is the greatest European, Kurosawa is the Greatest Asian.

I could've made such a good argument for superman. Instead of saying "he's shows us what it is to be an American" he should've said "He shows us the best we can become" and him being an alien DOES define him, when he founds out he gives himself mental blocks, he doesn't want to be, it's about an alien trying to live among men, honestly if the argument wasn't so iffy I would say superman should've won
@NJ-wb1cz8 жыл бұрын
Ciaran Murren Superman was the worst. Technically he's an alien, but practically he isn't. He's more like a human from another country. We like him BECAUSE he's relatable and human and American and average Joe that converts into a superhuman. None of those things are characteristics of an alien, aliens are completely foreign, unknown, inconceivable, etc.

@dirkwalker96868 жыл бұрын
My argument against that is like Jacquiline said it really makes no difference to the character. All it does is explain why Superman has powers. You can replace Krypton with a gamma radiation from a nuclear explosion, or bitten by a radioactive fly, or whatever and tell the same story. You could still have someone different living among men, someone showing us the best we can become (and it would be MORE relevant since he actually IS one of us and we actually COULD become like him). The Xenomorphs on the other hand are different. The fact that they're aliens is not just a quirk in the backstory or explaining their abilities, it's vital to every aspect of that movie.
@crystala7x1828 жыл бұрын
Lime and Liaison The question was BEST movie alien. Not most technical. So what if Superman is human-like? That doesn't have to do with the question. It's just asking for the best one, and out of these three choices, Superman is the alien with the best characteristics, interesting backstory, and not to mention the only one who is going to save you if you are in trouble.
@Mordalon8 жыл бұрын
+LilyBean "Best" is a very vague qualifier. If by "Best" you mean more powerful or nicest, then sure. But when the question specifically asks about aliens, people are going see "Best" as "best example of an alien being an alien", which is why the Thing and Xenomorph are superior. There are plenty of things Superman is better than them at, but at being alien he is not the best.

Love the last question. So hard to actually remember what the final shot was, but some of them are so memorable. My favourite last shots: 1. The Lives of Others (I cry just thinking of him saying "No. It's for me" and the look on his face is unforgettable.) 2. Les Irreductibles. 3. Sleepaway Camp

The best non-John Williams score is without a doubt Ennio Morricone's The Good, The Bad & The Ugly; I mean it's epic and operatic, so memorable and recognizable, basically the fourth main character "The Beautiful". The cemetery score (Ecstasy of Gold), the climax and the theme have become classic cinema standards, because they fit the scenes perfectly and are as good when played seperately.

Billy Bob No way! The Flash is too sweet and witty to get the Dark Knight treatment. I mean, unless you addressed the existential loneliness that is experiencing everyone and everything around you at a slowed pace, infinitely extending your time on this Earth... Okay, I can see it.

I'm a big fan of Alicia, I love her, I was rooting for her, but Dan deservedly won this one. She's probably one of the most intelligent people on this show when it comes to movies, but this time Dan just had better answers. I had no idea that The Wizard of Oz is a remake. One can easily forget that Shyamalan is an Oscar nominated director, the only reason Dan lost that arguement was that Andy wanted Alicia to win (which proves how bad a jusdge he is sometimes). I hope she gets the belt fair and square in the future. This would've been very controversial.

A great closing shot: Hitchcock's The Birds. The car slowly creeping along through the mass flock of birds, desperately trying to not disturb another attack. As the car goes off into the distance all you hear is the eerie sounds of the birds increasing until that's all that is audible, no score, no dialogue. It appears these creatures are just watching and waiting. Creepy as hell.

Tello Gomez Well,to be honest,Dan was really nervous and missed some easy points(like the fact that death proof is made for being bad,so by being actually bad it's actually good) so maybe doing that is a safe space for him.

Agreed. Andy just wanted to keep it even for a "down to the wire" final but she 100% won that argument.

@quickfire118 жыл бұрын
Bobjuniorman what is it about Landis that you guys dislike so much? He gets a decent amount of hate in the comments, but they're always very vague. Usually in the vein of, "If I see Landis I'm not watching," or "Stop bringing Landis back, we hate him." It almost seems like people are deciding their stance based on preconceived notions, and not actually giving him a chance.

I feel like since they started doing it live it's gone down in quality. The episodes are just too tedious now because they spend so much time talking about their chat and After The Fight and all this other stuff....like the Brett bloody nose thing was funny, but it's that kind of weird spontaneous live moment that just drags out the show.

@danielshelley62498 жыл бұрын
Respectfully, Andy, get it together. That "Worst Movie From An Oscar Nominated Director" call was absurd. That happens too often. You also judge based on singular points, as opposed to the entire arguments, a lot of the time. You're generally impulsive, biased, and inconsistent. Granted, it seems like a rather difficult job for you, but all the more reason to take it more seriously. Absolutely no offense intended to you, personally. You seem like a nice enough guy, and there are times when you do very well. I just think you need to tighten up, from a professional standpoint. Maybe do alternating hosts, or something, so you can focus your energy more efficiently. That being said, I enjoy the show and will continue to watch, but I feel as though I (and likely others) could enjoy it more with certain changes; namely this one.
