@julianzolo I was talking about the movie called "Interstellar". I'm not sure that people who fall in the rabid cult of MCU or DCEU fantards have the intellectual abilities to understand that there are even better movies than the shallow and immoral and unrealistic movies they are composed of. You are apparently one of those who can just think of The Batman Trilogy when the name of Nolan is mentioned. Well that's alright. Because deep down even you know that MCU will certainly never make such a psychological thriller in its entire run. Funny thing, even Sam Jackson agrees that MCU is nothing so special to deserve the unjustified attention it gets. The Hitman's Bodyguard is more fun than any of the MCU movies. And well don't worry I'm not triggered but just laying down facts. Popularity doesn't imply good quality. But I don't think you will understand this anytime sooner.

Nolan's way of storytelling can be copied but no one can copy speilberg , Scorsese or Kubrick because if one is cautious enough he can surely observe how Nolan uses cross cutting and small jump cuts to fool the audience like he did on prestige and memento...i like his style so i wrote my screenplay by studying his films Nolan generally makes his films for brains using non linear way of saying a story in order to build suspense but..just look at how speilberg made Saving private Ryan and Schindler's list without any kind of nonlinearity..it's still heartbreaking to see the characters suffering...i don't know how you study or watch a film but i said what i realized.

@julianzolo, Nolan's Batman are the textbook definitions of great comic book movies. Unlike you, I have read Batman comics. And from reading them, I can see the clear influence from Dennis O'Neil, Doug Moench, Jim Aparo, Neal Adams, Chuck Dixon, Graham Nolan, Grant Morrison, Jeph Loeb, Frank Miller, Bill Finger, and plenty other creative minds behind Batman comics that have influenced Nolan's trilogy. The first few minutes of Batman Begins are frame-for-frame recreations of the comic panels from The Man Who Falls and The Fugitive.

Nolan is a genius and a deep visionary. But most of all, he is very careful with his choices: look at the actors, and look at the sound. Yes the SOUND. His movies are cults just thanks to the visual itself, but adding the craft of the monster Hans Zimmer.... His movies became MASTERPIECES. All Hail Christopher!

It’s amazing how Nolan did not go to school and made it big with the low budget film “the following” the film cost $6000 to make and they made a ton of profit at the box office with a whopping $240,495! I admire this man and he is the reason I got into film making. I’ve seen and own all of his movies and I have yet to be disappointed with any of his movies.

Nice video and insightful. One question - most of the videos focus (rightly) on the artistic aspects - the style, imagery, and recurrent themes. But would you mind addressing another issue - he's made a bunch of blockbusters, has Nolan stayed on budget, on time and were there a lot of notes/reshoots with the Dark Knight, Inception or Interstellar? I'm curious because earlier creators like Hitchcock and Kubrick seemed to have worked in a different era - were reshoots common then?

I hear rumours that our friend is now working on a North-by-Northwest meets Inception plot, which is exciting! It sounds similar to the storyline of the novella that I wrote: 'The Station at the End of the Line' for Amazon Kindle. Basically, an everyman with a mistaken identity who falls afoul of two sinister chaps known only as the 'Twain'; with some Time Dimension shifts and a paradoxical 'it all ends were it begins' twist thrown into the mix. I have people like Nolan, GK Chesterton (author of The Man who was Thursday) and John Buchan (author of The 39 Steps) to thank for my inspiration. I think it's just on the @t (Canada) website, if anyone is even remotely interested.

He should consider helming an adapted screenplay of the labyrinthine, "El Sombra del Viento" (The Shadow of The Wind), by Spanish author, Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I think that would be, tonally, somewhere between the gothic-scenescapes of The Prestige and the haunting claustrophobia of Insomnia and Dunkirk/Interstellar.

You're wrong about Christopher Nolan not having side projects, he executive produced some movies, especially when it comes to DC ones like Man of Steel and Justice League (him and Zack Snyder are pretty good friends). And while his level of involvement might not be large, he still provided some form of assistance.

He only heped writing MOS ! He had no further REAL involvment in the DCEU, he just let his name be used for them.

How long did this video take to make start to finish? Just curious as I am thinking about making a video like this.

a talented editor could take this from script to final in about a week, aka 50 or 60 hours, maybe even less.. given every shot is preexisting, it just becomes an exercise of illustrating the narration with clips

Does anybody else noticed a big mistake in the ending of Dunkirk (13:15)? The whole city in the background isn't from 1940, it's just a normal town from nowadays....

If you really want a film history to doc. Document the story how the Jared Leto joker film never took off plus the Harley Quinn joker film also got axed that would be a good entry to this series
