Screwdriving Masterclass: iFixit Mako Precision Screwdriver 64 Bit Set

This is a review of the Ifixit Mako precision screwdriver 64 bit set. The screwdriver handles and bits are made in Taiwan. The bits are made of S2 steel and the handle is made of anodized aluminum with knurling and has a ball bearing top spinning cap.

Great Vid! I been using this exact set (along with two Wiha Precision Bits and Driver sets) since 2020. All have proven to be very useful for a wide variety of tasks. I found the iFixit driver handle's cylindrical diameter to a bit thick for certain tasks. In such cases, the Wihas' thinner flat sided drivers have proven to be better implementations (depending on the task). Plus, iFixit's choice of a soft foam liner does compromise the legibility of the identifying debossing in less than ideal lighting. Otherwise, the case design with ridge sectioned cover works great to partition small parts, etc. Love the product and Highly Recommend it!

I think for what you're getting and at it's price point, the Ifixit seems like an excellent set. I have the Wiha 75971 68-piece precision set, (system 4 bits) and I love it. It's older, so all parts were made in Germany. I have a feeling Ifixit derived some inspiration from that Wiha or similar set.

I have a larger set from ifixit, while they are expensive, they are excellent kits especially if you work with a lot of electronics. I have never been to any phone repair shot that didn’t use ifixit and as a former apple repair technician myself; I know they use ifixit tools as well. HOWEVER; they are a bit pricey if you don’t plan on using them regularly, and some of the cheap alternatives work just find too for occasional use. One thing I like to point out is that the plastic bit driver from ifixit sucks! …but it is essential in you don’t have a static electricity discharge band, where in this kit you get the metal (aluminum) bit driver and no static electricity discharge band….Which is some to be aware of if you plan on working on computers, smartphones etc. as they are extremely sensitive

i really hate the non standard/unusual bit sizes its nice that this saves resources and money tho ultimately the non ratcheting nature is what kills it for me if you dint need that this looks like a good option fr8m a cool company

Thanks for watching and commenting. You can always use the 4mm adapter to convert it to 1/4" with standard 2/4" ratcheting screwdrivers. For precision work ratcheting versus free spinning caps isn't necessary. You can always consider an electric precision screwdriver
