I'm a white man who grew up in the US legit not knowing what racism was. I have family members that are black. My family racially integrated years ago, so this concept about "race" was totally foreign to me. It just didn't make sense. To me, it was like hating a member of your own family, because my family was made up of all colors, shapes, sizes, and ages. That's how it always was. Then, I realized that there was, at high levels, integrated racism, from POLICE FORCES, and GOVERNMENT. I was blown away. Some of the people that represent us, are despicable, racist bigots, and yet, they stand on their podiums, begging for more tax-payer dollars and support for government overreach. Couldn't be happier to see people diving back into what I consider "classic rock", and finding the incredible lyrical gems within. Thank you!!!

There are better songs for you guys to get hooked to this band. "Wake up" is a must be for bars
@khristhompson54364 жыл бұрын
"Wake Up" is definitely a must, but I think "No Shelter" is also a must listen. I never hear a lot of people talk about it, but De la Rocha's lyrics on that song are heavy af.

LOVE the contrast of a Dunder Mifflin shirt while Rage plays in the background

I really like the comparison you made between RATM and Public Enemy. In fact, the latter recognized them and they invited the group to open certain concerts at the beginning of their career and RATM were honored to do that.

2nd line that the record company made them change is "some of those that hold office are the same that burn crosses", which zach still sings live :)

This came out in the aftermath of the LA Riots in the 90's...after the beating of Rodney King. RATM are deeply engrained in equality and in the fight against injustice. This band, and their message, became an outlet for what many of us were feeling at the time. Rage changed the rock world.

Listening to Rage back then was the first exposure I ever got as a little white girl growing up in the rural south to the idea that systemic injustice is inherent at every level in our country. I had Rage on a loop all throughout my teens and exploring their lyrics opened up an entirely new way of thinking and seeing the world for me. I'm a hardcore liberal to this day and this was where it started. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would say that either. Powerful lyrics.

@@kristylopez6869 same. I grew up very naive and sheltered in a white suburban community where we never even locked our doors at night. The LA Riots and fallout from the beating of Rodney King opened my eyes to some of the real problems of the world. When Killing in the Name of came out...I found myself immersed in their message and that made me aware of the inequality people face in the world as well as the massive problem of police brutality our nation faced. I've been a massive fan since. Thirty years later their songs are more relevant than ever. But then again...the black community has been dealing with these types of problems for 300 years so the past thirty is literally just a drop in the bucket. Sadly.

Nice! Glad to see you guys brought some Rage in. You really can't go wrong with anything from them, but their first album is outstanding. Check out Take The Power Back, Wake Up, or Township Rebellion for sure.

Public Enemy were the first group to take them on tour. They went on tour with P.E. before their 1st album was released. Chuck D. is in a group with the band right now. Prophets of Rage.

Love that you guys are on to Rage. Plenty of their other songs have great bars and flow but I look at this song like a protest chant. You keep speaking the message over and over until no one can ignore you.

This song hit hard when it came out, we played it non stop & parents hated it. Rage was one of the first bands I heard calling stuff out in the 90s
