Dude! You just saved me $800! Thank you! Great video. Explained well. The only thing that threw me was that the plastic was attached to the metal on the circuit board at the point of the hole you used to anchor the wire, so when I pried up my cut out, it was pulling on the metal. What threw me was a small metal "Bridge" appeared to connect both large pieces of metal. It looked like one end had cracked off and I figured I had broken the connection when I pried it up so I soldered that as well as the main break you show here. When I tested the light, the middle LED's did not light up. So I de-soldered the small "Bridge" and bent it out of the way so as not to make contact and that did it. I am still trying to figure out why that piece was there. I am back in business with a working light, never got a ticket and saved $800. Thanks for the video.

I wish I would have seen your video before going to the mechanic. I figured since it was intermittent that it had to be a short somewhere. Anyway after I didn't buy their $800 light they went ahead and charged me a nice diagnostic fee and I fixed it according to your video. FYI I had the upper break, just like yours. I had a tail light repaired at a shop last year and it cost $750. I thought they may have ripped me off then when the next one went out I went to my dealership and they wanted $784. Luckily I found this video. The break ended up being in the 2nd space you showed which was quite a bit harder to open up, but my wife and I prevailed, finished in less than an hour and paid NOTHING! Saving over $750. FYI, you can find repair services for this same problem for $70 to $110 online, but you have to send them the fixture and wait for the return - seems like that could be sketchy and you might be chasing your unit besides not having a tail light for at least a few days to whenever they returned it. Thanks for the detailed video.

Thanks for all the help!’I have a question though. We cut the plastic and followed the instructions but, the top corner is not lighting up. Past the corner about an in down is lit. Have you seen this?

It’s possible there is another crack (or it’s cracked somewhere as well. Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do but keep opening up more area to check and solder

Thanks for the detailed instructions! helped me make what would have been a costly repair into an inexpensive fix! Did both taillights. I opted to use jumper wires on all of the connections. I feel that will give better durability and eliminate the stress point to try and help reduce the possibility of a reoccurrence. I also covered the solder with electrical tape cut smaller than the hole, then sealed up the openings with liquid electrical tape. I used many coats to give a good thick seal. It seems like a very vulnerable spot for water penetration.

Who wants in on a class action lawsuit? I did this to my 2017 Yukon XL and it worked great. Took about 20 min total.

Where you soldered the copper wire, I am missing the bridge… do I need to add so metal or will the copper wire become the bridge/connection?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
The copper should become that bridge

Excellent video!!! But how do you cover the hole? I used glue but I’m worried because the heat melts it.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage3 жыл бұрын
I used electrical tape since it’s made for that, but just stretched it over the hole. It may not do well in a lot of moisture
