Nope, I thought customers were idiots when I worked retail for 20 years. But watching these skits of what customers are like and listening to my daughter who's a GM at a restaurant, I'm glad I didn't try serving a few times a week. I'd be lead out in handcuffs after a week of having to deal with their nonsense. More power to the ones who do the job!

Having worked both, Restaurants are worse. Hotels witness about the same, because the two things that are the most primal is food and rest. Get between an unreasonable/stupid person and their food and or rest, you witness some messed up things.

Now I have no idea how that could possibly work, but i do know that allergies can be really weird and specific. I once met someone who was allergic to the brown peel on almonds, so he could eat blanched almonds just fine.

Haha honestly I'm with the chef for the first one. "The Customer is always right" should be used in the sense of "This is the way they want it, that's their right". If someone wants to tailor a purple pink and turquoise suit, eat their steak well-done with ketchup, or get a tattoo of a Steampunk Daffy Duck, as long as they're polite and pay, they can do whatever they want.

Old guy here. My younger brother is now a foodie, unlike in his childhood when he put ketchup on steak. He once watched a Flintstones episode where Fred asks for ketchup for his steak and the chef comes out of the kitchen and chases him with a cleaver. My brother wondered why he would do that, and it took him 20 years to figure it out. However, he did marry a woman who puts ketchup on everything, including steak.

I didn't know about the Asian or Brazilian version but what the customer was thinking was limeade. It's usually chilled, served with crushed ice and sometimes paired with other fruits such as cherry.

I never know why customers make things difficult for the wait staff or chef. Just order what's on the menu. But there is always that one customer who wants to be a PITA.

The na beer to gin and tonic makes sense, if you have to drink something with alcohol, might as well go full bore. The lemonade girl who "can't have lemons" does actually make sense, it might not be an allergy thing and more about how other compounds or the Citrix acid hits her stomach. Lemons give me heartburn, limes don't, for example.

I just don't see how "where is your parmesan from" is a stupid question, unless it literally says "parmigiano reggiano" on the menu. Plenty of places in the world produce their own "knock-off" parmesan that you might want to avoid. It's no different from seeing "caviar" on the menu and asking what fish the roe is from, or the origin of the "champagne".

@@hoborg98 OK, I tend to have my steak 'Blue', cooked properly I find the middle to be warm when touch to my lips or tongue, I believe it is at about 115F/46C, which is not cold to my taste, rare should be at least as warm.

There are just better options than some store bought, prefabricated sauce. I always prefer demi-glace, since it enhances the meat. To me the ketchup and A1 kind of cover up a bit too much.
