Hi Lydia, thanks for sharing :) One thing about the glasses and the laser cover: they are the wrong ones. The Laser is blue, so the glasses should be it’s complementary color, which would be orange/red. You’ll notice that your eyes will get strained much less when you use properly colored glasses. Nice job! I have one of these and really like it. Couple of thoughts on the endstops - I haven't really found the lack of them to be much of a problem. The best thing I found to do is before turning on the laser, manually move the head as far as possible to the front -right- left, and then when it's powered on wherever the head is will be remembered as the home position. That said, I've also looked into adding endstops anyway. I opened up the controller and the board seems to be a variation of the MKS DLC board for CNCs. It's Sculpfun branded as the "XY DLC V1.0" and the layout is a little different from the stock MKS (on-board stepper drivers for X and Y, added power switch, no connection for a display). But there are a lot of things that carried over - dual Z axis connection (tho needs a stepstick stepper controller), motor connection, Z probe, extra input, and ... endstop connections. So I think they should just plug in, and from what I can tell you don't even need to upload new firmware - I think they can be activated via some config settings through G-Code. If I get around to trying, I'll document it and post a video myself. They also very recently came out with an S9 - everything is the same I think except an even more powerful laser with an even tighter beam. They claim cutting up to 15mm wood, and the one review I've seen so far seems to back that up. You can get the new laser module separately as an upgrade - it's $199 on Banggood right now. Edit - correction
@TimberWood.Customs3 жыл бұрын
Yes I will be reviewing the S9 soon and I believe that they have endstops to add as well that I think I’ll be getting and doing a video on. Thanks for the info!
@EddieSheffield2 жыл бұрын
@@TimberWood.Customs Finally got around to trying out endstops with mixed success. They do work after a bit of configuration, but I can't get the config to "stick". With GRBL, the configs are stored in the EEPROM so should be retained between power cycles. But at least on my S6 it resets the EEPROM on each startup / reset. In the console window of Lightburn when it connects, one of the first messages from the S6 is something like "EEPROM read failure, resetting to defaults". I think Sculpfun has done something with their GRBL release that it checks the EEPROM (checksum maybe?) on startup and if it finds a difference it resets it. Curious if yours does the same, or if there's actually a fault in the EEPROM in mine. GRBL is GPL'd, so they're supposed to provide any source changes they have made. I may try contacting them for their source, or maybe flash a generic build of GRBL, tho I'm hesitant with doing that without having the original to flash back to if things go sideways.

It it’s clear, You can not cut it because diode lasers can’t cut clear. However if it’s a dark color then it’ll be easy. And you’ll just have to get a small piece to test different settings on. I’d start with 100 power and 300mm/min

Greetings L Making. I bought this laser machine over a year ago, but despite all this time, I am very slow to learn with it. I have a vector drawing that I converted to PNG in CorelDRAW and imported into LightBurn; It is a clock made of a 3mm bamboo plate. I made the following cut settings in LightBurn: Spd/Pwr: 900/90 in 25 passes. But even with that speed and 90% power, it burned the bamboo wood a lot. I don't know if I made the correct settings or even the vector drawing might not be correct. I didn't change anything else in LightBurn except Speed, Power and 25 Passes. I don't know what it could be because I think 25 passes is too much. P.S. I tested it before with the same 3mm bamboo, but it was a small 2cm x 2cm square in the same settings, in 20 passes and it cut perfect, leaving no char on the wood.

Cutting quality, I think yes, also build structure, with more x hight distance due to the tall leet, also better than ortur. Once I get the S9 laser and endstops to add to this machine, I’d say probably the Sculpfun. However I’m not a fan of the tiny space that you get between the laser eye protector and your material. And I you loose the safety features with the Sculpfun laser that u get with the ortur
