This video shows how you can sculpt like a pro using this homemade textured air-dry clay recipe. I have made a few different home made air dried clays and each one of them are really useful. I needed one that had more texture to it for stone and brick work. I tested several recipes before I go to this one, and without a doubt this was exactly what I was looking for in a textured air-dried clay and did exactly what I needed it to do, drying rock hard and keeping its texture.

Steve, I'm not sure exactly what look your going for but if I do stone walls made to look like the old field stone or cobble stone, I do one step first when painting. I go in with several colors (like red, green, blue, black etc.) and randomly paint individual stones. Then proceed exactly like you did. Then multiple colors will basically disappear but give you an undertone to make the stones look more random. I can send you a picture of a finished wall if you like.

I use a blender on junk mail. Then I make new sheets of paper, or use it for putting in molds with glue, or paper mache. Love your videos.

The paper products used here turned into a great texture! Can't wait to see your castle! Using recycled materials is an economical way to make clay. Thank you Steve 😊!!!

I see that it sticks to cardboard very well. Would it stick to the pots I mold out of plaster I wonder? I could make some textured flower pots, that I could paint like that. 👍 Right now I am tiling and grouting the pots. Thank you so much Steve ❤️ 💙 💜

It's funny, yesterday I was going to ask you if you had a good recipe for texture paste. Thanks Steve, this was well timed! I like the effect your texture clay created. I am looking for a smoother texture tho, do you have links to any videos about a smooth texture paste at all Steve? God bless you and those you love. Have a great week!

This is my smoother paste. I also have another video that was out a couple of weeks ago. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJuupIebjLimsLs. Although you can get a relatively smooth finish with this as well.

I’ve used a blender in low speed to break it down. It’s interesting the idea using beaters on your mixture. Which joint compound they come in numbers here which identify the time it takes before it dries up. Thank you
@SteveMcDonaldCrafting

I’m not sure as we don’t have numbers, but the one I use is a quick dry, and if kept sealed when made it lasts ages. 😀

The paper clay I made from shredded junk mail and misprint copy paper made a course texture type clay. And so far clear school glue and white school glue have the same effect.

I've never made air dry clay with the goal of making it textured, so the coarsest I've done was using newspaper, and it's been a while (like pre-youtube time 😄). I usually aim for smooth finishes in my projects. I actually tried making cold porcelain clay yesterday, but while my clay was cooking in the microwave, I remembered I needed vaseline to knead the clay, and I had no idea where my tin was. I then tried using just hand lotion only to find out it wasn't enough, and my clay turned into a lumpy mess, which stick to my hands. I gave up with it for now, I need to find my vaseline (which I've bought only for this putpose) before next attempt, I've made cold porcelain before without difficulties, but now I only made a huge mess. 🤣
