You are so welcome! And we are glad you found us too. We're trying to figure where we go next. There is a moldmaking video we hope to put the text to shortly. Have you seen it on KZbin?

Beginner's School I haven't. I will look for it and add it to my queue. Funny fact is that I found you through the blog , and I found the blog through a random image on proportions. This video didn't show on my KZbin searches. You may want to look into that.

I have been searching sculpting tutorials for two years, but got really into it six weeks ago as I enrolled the plastic arts course at college (musician here). Anyway I have an scupting tutorials playlist, have seen dozens of videos (some of them under 1k views and this must be like the 100th I watch, it is really good and I just wonder what is wrong with YT algorithm, as some videos uploaded almost a decade ago from topics I religiously follow are not being showed/suggested to me until now) 🤔🤷🏻♀️🤷🏼♂️

Thanks for the comment! We don't currently have a lesson on children's facial proportions, but I've added it to our suggestion box for future videos! Eyes are much deeper than you would expect. It helps to look at them in a profile view to get a sense of how deep set they are in the skull. See our lesson on facial proportions here for more info: www.beginnersschool.com/2015/08/21/facial-proportions-and-sculpting-a-face/ Happy sculpting!

Hello, not sure if you still review these comments but I am wondering how you adhere the face sculpture to the board? Also, is it filled with newspaper or is it all clay? Lastly, if you want this piece to last and dry, which clay do you recommend? I am using self-drying water-based clay, would that work? ! Now with this pandemic, I have a bit more time to work on this! :) Thank you so much for this video

This is a really good tutorial, it was easy for me to understand. However, I am 14 and doing this as just a hobby/ past time activity. Is it possible to do this as accurately without the tools?
@BeginnersSchool5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Hands and fingers are the best tools any artist can have, and you can always make your own tools by experimenting with household objects. Try using things like old toothbrushes, spoons, toothpicks, and pencils. The bristles of a toothbrush can make for interesting textures and the handle can be used to flatten or shape your clay. Spoons can be used to scoop out bits of clay you want removed, and toothpicks and pencils help to create small details. Experiment with different things you have around the house and see what works best for you! Good luck and 🙌 for picking up sculpting as a hobby!

@BeginnersSchool6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Kent used Roma Plastilina clay. It's oil-based and will not harden, so a mold must be made in order to get a long-lasting replica. See more about how to make molds on our website: www.beginnersschool.com/2017/03/03/basic-two-part-silicon-mold-making/

Kent , pls can you advice me . I not sure what clay to get to start sculturing. I want to sculpture Actions figures about 8 inches in height., using a wire frame in the middle . I also would like to use my oven to be able to make the clay hard. Sometimes I would not mind painting the sculptures So the type of clay I am not sure what to get, Do I Polymer clay or Plastcine etc. I see pottery clay is real cheap. Pls can you help, thanks Vaughan
@BeginnersSchool6 жыл бұрын
Hi Vaughan, A very popular clay for that application is super sculpey, or super sculpey firm. It's an oven hardening clay that when hardened creates a carvable, sandable master. You can add super fine details after by using 2 part sculpting epoxy like Magic sculpt or A/B epoxy putty for belts, buttons etc. Here is an artist that has used that method before whose work I enjoy, Pablo Vigiano--look him up! Hope this helps. -Kent Kidwell, The Beginner's School

This is amazing! I have to do a clay face/bust of Audrey Hepburn, would u be able to help me out somehow? Or post a video on your channel of an Audrey Hepburn bust? Do u have any tips?
@BeginnersSchool6 жыл бұрын
Hi Isabella, We have a video coming soon on how to sculpt a female bust that might be helpful to you! Be sure to subscribe to our channel so you can see when we post the video. :) I think the best way to go about a sculpture of Audrey Hepburn is to make sure you have a lot of reference images from all different angles. Try making a drawing of her first to get a feel for her features and proportions. Check out our website if you need more information on drawing or facial proportions: www.beginnersschool.com Best of luck! Send us a photo when you're finished! The Beginner's School Team

@isabellaolsen41563 жыл бұрын
if you have already sculpted what sort of clay did you use? you most likely need a proffesional kiln oven. if you don't have that you might want to research where you can have it baked. otherwise you'll have to use a diffrent clay next time.
