There ARE people who would refuse to help if you asked for it. Those who refuse to help are sometimes the closest friends that you think you have. I've asked a "close friend" before on how to switch careers to a field that I knew his wife was good at. It was like pulling teeth to get any kind of information at all. I figured out later on that he didn't want me to change for the better. He wanted me to stay the same (who he thought I was), and stay at my socioeconomic level (which was much lower than his level). At one point, I told him that I hated being poor, and his response to me was "Being poor isn't that bad." And by the way, he's never been poor a day in his life. He liked the status quo as it was.

That includes having this channel, being in a management role, having the people who actually care about me for who I am, freelance gigs, being an ambassador in a creative community and now I'm also planning on honing my public speaking skills through joining a toastmaster club and these all happened in 2023. When I was very young, younger than 12, I went round to GEC and asked if they had any spare discrete components they could sell me: They gave me a load for free. Strange stuff, including old-style cubic resistors, but I didn't need miniaturisation then, so it didn't matter that the components were old and fairly bulky. That place closed down soon afterward, so they were probably grateful someone could use stock which was probably obsolete to them. ... Looking back, it's a puzzle what I was doing in another town, at such a young age. The guy I spoke to was quite old for a working engineer too, and although that town is experiencing a tech revival now, it wasn't back then. ... Somehow, I had a better engineering career when I was a child, than I do now.
