TS100+drill battery is my go-to mobile option. You can get cheap USB chargers to fit many drill batteries, which make good donors for the mechanical fit, just don't forget to put a fuse in! For mobile but plug-in situations, laptop PSUs are good as chances are you already have that with you.

You got it quickly 🙂 It's nice to see that MINIWARE is constantly improving its devices. When I test the maximum power of the soldering iron heater, I simply put the tip into distilled water and then turn it on. Then I can read the maximum continuous power with fairly high confidence, regardless of the startup algorithm.

I work for a marine robotics manufacturer and have outfitted field kits for myself and our technicians for whenever we need to head into the field for client support. I used to have a Weller WESD51 in each kit but they were big, heavy, and only work at a single input voltage. So I opted to replace them with TS100's and they've been great. They're small and light weight, which is really important when outfitting a kit that someone needs to carry with them, especially on flights. Saving that weight has allowed me to add some additional tools. As you demonstrated here with the TS101, they're plenty capable for electronics work. I wouldn't replace the stations in our production department with them, but for field work they've been capable, reliable, and much easier to work with in situations when we've had limited working space. Finally, one of the biggest advantages for us, is when powering them with a wide input AC/DC inline supply you can plug them in anywhere in the world (120/240VAC 50/60Hz). Which is great because we have clients all over the world. The Weller stations were 120V only, so you needed a bulky transformer to power them depending on where you were deployed.

Thanks for these reviews. The new Pinecil V2 has shorter tips with lower resitance 6.2 ohm tips (vs. 8 ohm) for more power at lower voltages and about half the price of the TS101. Would love to see a comparison.

I had not heard that about the resistance or the length I guess although I don't know if I have seen the V2 but ya my comment was going to be to bad that pinecil already beat them to it and I assume much cheaper I have had a ts80 for a long time now and it's great but if I was buying one now I'd have to go pinecil

@@james10739 Pinecil V2 looks the same as V1 except the rubber grip is green. I believe the new shorter tips will work with Piinecil V1. Agreed. I have a TS80 and TS80P and I love that thing. It's extremely useful to be able to solder anywhere using an external battery and roll-up silicone mat. I just replaced the head unit in my car and it was so nice to solder while in the car.

The one linked in the description shows free shipping to the UK. You're charged VAT on AliExpress at the point of sale and there are no duties on anything valued less than £135. So, there's no extra to pay to the shipper.

Any idea what chipset it uses? I want to know if Miniware is still using clone STM32 chips in them. This is why IronOS no longer reccomends TS100. See: *Please note that Miniware started shipping TS100's using cloned STM32 Chips. While these do work with IronOS, their DFU bootloader works terribly, and it is hard to get it to successfully flash larger firmware images like IronOS without timing out. This is the main reason why the TS100 is no longer recommended.
