We are now playing the wood game with our business project. Sunday we go pick up an ole hickory rotisserie pit and plan on running whole log 95% of the time as these bigger pits do not like splits and most of the wood we are going to need should be fairly green (6mo or less season). I have two sources around and I'm trying to convey that we will need 2-3 cords per month of green log 8" dia. and 24" long, definitely not a normal order for them lol.
@SDSBBQs6 жыл бұрын
But being that you'll need logs it should be FAR less work. Good luck!

Good job Dash. Short, concise, and to the point. One minor thing to consider is how often you use nonetheless.

My heat comes from propane. (OMG) My smoke comes from wood chips, Apple and Hickory. I will also add chunks of oak as I can get it locally in my area. I have used maple but don't like the flavor it gives off. I usually stock up when I see a sale and keep a lot on hand so I don't run out. Keep on smoking.

I have a new propane grill I have yet to put together for my wife... I am about propane as it serves a purpose (ready in an instant and consistent heat) I don't knock propane users at all.

I get my wood from Craigslist. People have trees cut down and will give it to you for free so they don't have to pay to get it hauled away. My investment is a used chainsaw I bought for $20 and the cost to rent a splitter in the fall $45 for 6 hours. I usually get oak and maple. Prime time to get free wood is after thunderstorms and when trees fall because of too much rain. I stack my wood on free pallets cut in half. Great video. Thank you.

SDSBBQ I use propane in the winter. When it gets 20 below I'm not fighting the cold to nurse a fire. I just add my wood chunks and you can't tell the difference.

What's up dash here in Kentucky wood is ready available. Some of the fruit woods are a little bit harder to find. Myself I just have a medium sized Oklahoma Joe grill so I mostly use charcoal and wood chunks.. Looking to get a Weber Smokey mountain here in a couple weeks... Anyhow great video bro

would you recommend using regular fire wood for a fuel source?
@SDSBBQs6 жыл бұрын
Depends on if it is a hardwood. But most firewood is fine for cooking in a smoker

Talk to an Arborist/ Tree service in your area about getting wood.

I had my co worker watching the video he want to know do u have a video about how to stop the fire from the fire box coming in where the meat at because it burn some of his meat on that end.
@SDSBBQs4 жыл бұрын
If that's the case he can add a pan of water or he needs to make a smaller fire.

Unfortunately i have not been able to catch a live stream yet since i work the hours you live stream. My question is about wood seasoning. Is your wood seasoned or do you build a fire so hot that it doesnt matter ? I have an offset cooker and i am trying to learn my cooker and wood at the same time. Kiln dried wood works the best for me, so far. Whats your take on seasoned vs kiln dried ?
@SDSBBQs6 жыл бұрын
So this might end of being a long reply... Seasoning wood has a few purposes from my experience. The more seasoned it is the easier it is to get burning... but just as your said when you get the fire going the unseasoned wood will burn, albeit a little dirty. It may put off a little bit more of a bitter flavor as well. You can cheat by using a warning box to help dry the wood out a little by warming it up before using it in your fire.
