I just watched a video by Doc Harley [A qualified HD tech with some 40 years experience] from Low Country HD and he says the Phat 10mm wires are compatible with the ion ignition systems. I have them on my 114 M8 and it seems to me HD would not sell them for the M8’s if there was an issue. Just remember to change all 4 wires and not just the 2 that are visible on the left side. As for my experience, I think they look great and although they say they make no difference to performance I’d swear they do.

@@j.d.thompson3505 It's all in your head. Twisted 12mm, Screaming Eagle 10mm and stock 8mm wires ALL have the exact same gauge suppressor core, the ONLY difference is the amount of insulation. @@KrakensGarageandAdventures Well, I went to the HD shop this morning with full intentions on returning the plug wires. One of the youngsters working at the parts counter swears up and down that they will work on my bike without any issues. He took me to the back area where he showed me his father's mostly stock '07 RK which has the SE wires installed and told me he has no problems with it. He says his personal '16 Road Glide also has no issues with the SE wires. I guess if the engine is completely stock there might be a chance of the EFI sensors having malfunctions, but I'm not an expert. My bike has a SE intake and V&H Bigshots, so I hope that means the parameters are within parameters and all that technical stuff. I ended up keeping the wires and I'm going to give them a try after all. Thanks for the information on your end though, I feel a bit smarter now.

I was reading a couple of installation comments on these Phatter SE wires on later model touring models. They state that these Phat 10mm wires will not secure in the clamp(s) under the gas tank which are designed for the thinner OEM plug wires without alteration. I did have the worn spot on the front plug wire on my 2016 CVO Limited so what I did as a temporary measure is to slip a similar diameter size rubber hose slit lengthwise over the front plug wire and secure it with a cable wrap.

Hmm that's rather odd. Do you have a V&H fuel pack 3 tuner installed and programmed? If you don't, then that would be your issue. When you change out the pipes and/or the air cleaner you have to make changes to the fuel mapping to allow for the extra air flow. Good luck. Eric

Idk...have a hard time believing they would sell them if they’re not compatible. I have them on my 18 FXBRS, no issues, just installed on my 18 FLHXS, no issues...

They're fine... They're still spark plugs wires, don't expect any difference in performance from them, they don't transmit spark any better than OEM plug wires. I have them on my bike for looks, because that's all they're good for lol

I bought them thinking the actual wire was larger, it’s just the insulation that’s bigger.

so is higher mm wire fatter or skinnier? 8 fatter or skinnier than 10? 10mm is bigger then 8mm but with wires i tought lower gauge is fatter
@KrakensGarageandAdventures
@KrakensGarageandAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Normally you're correct meaning the lower the number on the wire gauge the ticker the wire. In this case I'm starting the Phat pugs are 10mm and the OEM stock plug wires are 8mm. I hope this helps.

Delphi system, measure the resistance of phat wires and plugs…..they should be the same! Dielectric grease is by its name an insulator ! If you use it do so sparingly……and for your spark plugs do not use copper grease on new plug threads….they come with anti seize as standard…..happy daze.🚀👍

1. It proves the parts staff aren't well rehearsed on what parts might cause an issue. 2. Unless you have a really built motor it's just anesthetics 3. If you experience intermittent running it may be the phat plugs causing the issue. Genius? No, I spoke with professionals in the know and reported the news. Thabks for watching. Eric
