Hi Frank, I finally got a kayak and have just come back from some paddling in Cornwall. After watching your videos over and over again I felt like I was in your vid at Mullion Cove last week. When it got a bit choppy I could hear your voice in my head. Lol. I'm still new to it but loving it. Going to Polperro and back to Lizard in a couple of weeks so keep re watching your vids. Thanks for inspiring me, your vids always cheer me up. 😊 Hope you are well and still paddling! 👍

I love your vidoes, but I especially LOVE the ones filmed in my beloved home of Cornwall... our Eden on Earth is so beautiful, no place like it in the world.... seeing it from the sea looking back at our granite rocks is beautiful.... You know there's a 13th Century Monastery on that little island, and us Cornish used to track across on holy days. :D

That's being like rassist to other Counties tho innit? Dorset will be well cheesed of Linda, and Devon will be unconsolable like. Ha ha, got some really good Cornwall videos to come, just need to start doing 'em.

Great film!! The small beach you landed on is called Pony Beach, we live just around the corner. On the 18th of July we were kayaking with a massive basking shark for company just the other side of Talland Bay from there............ FLIPPIN AMAZING!!

Polperro is just a gem, it is a 'must do' Looe, probably a step or 2 down the scale, but still well worthy of a visit. Arriving back, at dusk, Looe had a Continental feel to it for me, when viewed from the sea, they're all lovely places though, and I don't think anybody would be disappointed with any of them, given a spell of decent weather, whatever the time of year. I love the quiet winter days, when it's sunny and calm, the crowds are absent, it can be wonderfully atmospheric.

Well Nige, if you get better weather than we did, I will be jealous, and astounded. I think we've had a once every ten year happening there. By the time we got 6 days in, I KNEW it was going to be good, and stopped fretting over it. When has that EVER happened before? Even on the last day, at 8am in Penzance, it was 26c.....at 8am!!!! If you do the north coast, be VERY aware of the dangerous swell, that is usually present. It needs great care, even on good days, 3 big swells arrive at random.

I also had really wanted to do this trip. It's quite straightforward, weather permitting of course. Need to get in at Looe at the latest 1.5hrs after High Water, as that part dries out where we launched. Ideally launch just as the tide begins the ebb. Once out there, there is little tidal current to worry about, and there are quite a few places to land, and brew up etc. Polperro is an absolute Gem of a place, but I'm sure you already know that, I'm sure continuing on to Fowey would be excellent, but we had to return.

Yes indeedy, and it has been absolutely brilliant..................until last night!!! The wind was howling, and blowing the smoke back down the flue, and into the house. Have a mate in the next street, who has one, and he has the same problem, he has a wind cowl on, but that still doesn't prevent it. I guess nothing is 100% perfect is it? The rest of the time thought it has been just superb, lovely dry heat, all through the house, and I have a regular supply of free wood - for now.

It's a mix of both, the Gopro is a 2 in a Gopro underwater housing, which gives perfect un-distorted vision, unlike the standard housing. The water was that clear, that it's hard to tell when the camera is immersed. I leave my standard camera rolling when using the Gopro on the surface, and transcribe the audio over, sometimes getting it slightly out of synch, ha ha. Well did we pass when you were there? I watched your Gwennap head climb video, we did Land's End, and Longships in a flat calm.

Cracking videos! Just wondering what model is the black Werner paddle you use? Keep them coming. Being Welsh, I'm really impressed with your pronunciation of the Welsh placenames, especially the ones beginning with Ll, as in Llanddwyn Island!

Pony Beach eh? Wonder how that came about? Don't know if you've been recently, but there's been a landslip, at some point quite recently. Lucky you, what a fabulous place to live, but I have to confess, after years of thinking that the South Coast was the place to be - I then discovered the North Coast, and it is just majestic, beats the South hands down. That's not to say that the South isn't good, but that North is wild, and committing, rugged, exposed, scary.........

Hi Frank, I'm just loving your videos!! We live just outside Truro and have had kayaks for several years now but have been rather unadventurous....sticking mainly to the Fal and surrounding areas, which is lovely but having seen your videos we are now inspired to tackle the north coast and further afield on the south coast! Can you remember how long this paddle took you roughly?? Regards, Elaine

Oggy Doggy Daycare Hi Elaine, it's difficult to say how long it took, we are usually out until dark anyway if the weather's good. From memory it was around 5 miles to Polperro, so 5 miles at 5mph is 1 hour, but of course there are caves to be explored, wildlife to be seen, photos to be took, hot refreshings on lonely beaches, and the inevitable afternoon siesta for Matt, ha ha. A good measure of how good a paddle is, is how far one travels in a few hours. Not much distance covered means that there is lots to see, and it's a good trip? A great tool to use is Google Earth, zoom in to your desired area, and click on the ruler on the toolbar at the top. You can then measure distances with great accuracy in feet, metres, miles, you name it. An average day for me and Matt will be around 10miles, with a few stops, we just go at an easy pace, I certainly have nothing to prove, and am just out there purely for pleasure and relaxation, others prefer a breakneck pace. The North Coast is the best in my opinion, but you need to choose your day carefully, as the swell can be heaving. I'll let you into a little secret though, the Coast of Wales between St Davids Head and Strumble Head, nr Fishguard is almost identical to Cornwall's North Coast, but with much LESS swell, and surf. Give it a go sometime, I'm sure you will love it.

GBPaddling Thanks Frank! That's really interesting, I would have said from your videos that it was much further as like you say there is just so much to see and explore in a relatively short distance. I've just watched your Portreath to Godrevy video.......awesome or what!! Can't believe it's on our doorstep literally 10miles away.....going to keep everything crossed for some good weather and go and try it!! Love your videos, hope to bump into you both on the water one day!

Cool vid ! Quick question is the sea cold in August ? As I'm going to polperro
@GBPaddling
@GBPaddling 8 жыл бұрын
+27james02 In August it will approx. 16-18c I'm guessing. Depending on how hardy you are, on average you will need a thin wetsuit, or shortie. Obviously if you're one of these that breaks the ice for your Boxing day swim, then it'll be toasty, ha ha. I have a neoprene vest, that I take out for emergencies, as the air temp. can get oppressive, but the water is always cooler by contrast.

+GBPaddling thanks for the reply,reason being was I'm thinking about starting up kayak fishing.just in case I fall in the water I wanted to know what the average August sea temp is and yes I'll probably invest in a wetsuit and all the other safety gear and equipment

Glad to be of service. Having lessons is the best way forward, it's something I didn't have, and although I don't regret it, I now realise, that it would've speeded up the learning process, considerably. First thing you'll need now, after Kayak, paddle, and spraydeck, is a drysuit. You'll be OK 'till about mid-October, then the sea temp. will fall dramatically, and by December, it would be dangerously cold, without protection. Have a look at our Forum ukseakayakers.freeforums you'll be welcome
