Wow, used to be so cautious of USSR anti ship missiles like the SS-N-19, since they’re so good. In previous iterations of the game, they felt unstoppable. Now, they seem much more tame with the help of ECM. Good video!

It’s a good tutorial, most carrier born EW is pretty short range, so your already inside of SAM range while jamming

I've tried jamming the Bear 'D' when he was targeting my Carrier group then shot him down. Afterwards jammed the Soviet threat , found them with my E2c and gave them a good hiding. (Although this was after my previous attempt when I got soundly battered). Love this sim.

Agreed. Right now, I am assuming the AI is automatically using the installed SLQ-32 V(?), the same as it is for SRBOC. Personally, I would love the option to be able to use it manually; me watch station in CIC was right next to the french fry machine. ;)

I would like to see the outcome if you combine those scenarios, TU-16P jamming the carrier group and the EA-6B jamming the Shipwrecks.

A carrier group has the advantage of being able to launch planes to clear threat vectors of jamming sources. So a "full featured" strike on a CSG would include enemy ships firing from one vector and bombers coming from multiple other ones, all supported by jammers and, ideally, fighter escorts. And the carrier wing would need to engage all that beyond their missile launch thresholds. Or at the very least make sure the jammers are down by the time the carrier's guardians can engage the incoming vampires.
@christopherchartier3017Ай бұрын
Of course, that’s if the carrier force isn’t utilizing its aircraft and sensors to spot the soviet ships and aircraft. It truly is “who sees who first”
@advorak8529Ай бұрын
@@christopherchartier3017 It is not. You need to not only see the enemy, you also need to correctly interpret what you are seeing. That trawler lumbering along at 4 knots, not responding (like many other fishing vessels) might be a fairly capable warship, suddenly throwing missiles at you. Confirmation bias and seeing but misinterpreting is as old as Homer’s Odyssey, the Trojan Horse was full of Greeks and the blinded cyclops used the sense of touch to feel if it was sheep or the “bad” humans trying to leave his cave … but the humans masqueraded as sheep and fooled the cyclops.

Thank you for your videos Stealth. Really enjoy them. Some follow up Sea Power EW questions please. Q1. Do multiple jammers increase the effectiveness of jamming on a target? Q2. If one ship jams another ship, will the jammed ship have a reduced chance/distance of detecting the jamming ship? In other words, can jamming be used to blind the surface search radars of a target ship as the ships hunt for each other prior to engagement? Q3. Does jamming give away the position of the jammer?
@ShadowGJАй бұрын
As for Q2 and Q3, I believe jamming reveals the general but not precise location of the jammer. For counter-jamming, ECM can target vectors and doesn't really need a specific, zeroed in target. I figure opposing ships jamming each other, in the absence of any other support, would wander around until one or the other was close enough to burn through the jamming and get an accurate fix. With support, allies could venture out of the presumed jamming cone and get a fix, or just rely on other means of detection (i.e. sonar, or just visual).
@howardkong8927Ай бұрын
Offensive ECM gives away your location. Defensive ECM also gives away your location, but the enemy will have a much wider angle (and thus worse idea of where you are), and that angle increases as you get closer. They also get completely wrong distances.

Feel like ECW is useless now as the range is so short that you can never get into range before i get shot down with missiles
@Stealth17Gaming25 күн бұрын
I've made that work by flying into range at lowest altitude. Then, when your jammer is in range you pop up to a higher altitude (wouldn't recommend max) and start jamming.
@mitchellhood832025 күн бұрын
@Stealth17Gaming ok I'll have to try it. I wish they wouldn't have reduced the range, but the effectiveness because it's feeling just really handicapped without a place in your strategy anymore. Appreciate the response though brother, been watching your videos on sea power from the start.

The ships themselves have ecm capability in the form of their slq-32 arrays, not sure how this is implemented yet.

it doesn't seem to be implemented yet as without the EA-6B's the granit in a mass attack is very likely to hit.

Caveat: I am not sure if this game models home on jam. For aerial jamming, you might be able to use AAMs set to "home on jam" mode. The AIM-54, for example, could be fired to home on jam, which has the added benefit of attacking passively, meaning the aircraft may not know the missile is even coming until they see it. If ship and shore based jammers are modelled, like AN/SLQ-32, some anti-surface missiles have a "home on jam" capability. AGM-88E models, for example, have a home on jam capability, but it wasn't operational until 2012 and therefore wouldn't be in this game. Also, I am not sure how effective HOJ shots are in general, much less in the game if it is modelled.
@taiko1237Ай бұрын
@@chrishawkinson8846 It's not modelled as far as I know, unless ship-based jammers can be homed in on by Shrikes and whatever the Soviet equivalent is (and I'm not sure if there are ship-based jammers either).

Offensive ECM is useless if it is on board the same asset that you are trying to protect, because it gives away your location. If you shine a flashlight, the enemy will be blind to everything but the flashlight itself. Defensive ECM is a lot smarter, and can hide you own position, because they are more advanced and are essentially "hacking" the enemy radar, so to speak.
