Seagull 1963 Chronograph - Panda Dial | Unboxing and Review

The second watch in Andrew's Collection. Today we look at the watch collector favorite, the Seagull 1963 Mechanical Chronograph. This is the Red Star Reissue of the iconic 1963. It has the original ST1901 movement however it has a panda dial and a 40mm case size. Currently priced at around 150-300 dollars this watch is insane for the price.

I agree. That is a thing of beauty. Not a lot of great Chinese watches but Sea Gull, Sugees are among those that are doing a good job.

I bought my panda today, after this beautiful video, as far as I know... there were 4 Swiss columns that manufactured clocks... and seagul bought the design of one of them if I'm not mistaken (Venus 175). Thank you for your sincerity in talking about this beautiful piece!

Yeah I didn't go for the swan neck either and mine is still +2 seconds. I have a gooseneck Sugess Chrono with the same movement, so I'll be interested to see the difference.

This would be nice, if it was the genuine article. Seagull have NEVER done transparent casebacks on the 1963 line watches, any watch that claims to be from the 1963 line with a transparent back and is missing the SeaGull branding is a fake/replica. It may have the ST19 movement inside, but it won't be a genuine SeaGull. I have the Panda watch, genuine from the factory in Tianjiin and its completely different to this - proper panda display box with gorgeous material and white line stitching, a bunch of goodies and pin badges to commemorate the first flight into space - and it has the proper panda logo on the back with the proper Sea-Gull branding. It was $450 but its the genuine product! I have seen multiple videos of the 1963 watches on YT lately, and there hasn't been a single watch that has been the genuine article! A pity.

No one cares. The goal is who can make the most accurate, affordable chronograph. No one cares about pins, stickers or bla bla bla. Give us open case backs to enjoy the movement and accuracy and they have a winner. Always has been, always will be the law of the land.

@@NoblesTx You cared enough to comment. And if no one cares, then that's fine but you can't call it a Seagull then because its not. The problem is there's too many of these replicas around with the transparent backs and people THINK they are the genuine article, when they're not. If you want to have this watch in your collection, then at least be proper enough to get the genuine article, that's all I'm saying - otherwise, if its got a transparent back a 'collector' is a bit of a mug to own one and be oblivious to its origins 😂

It’s def a fake seagull. The real ones have two lines of Chinese on the bottom by the 6. And a closed back

Yes but the movement is real and supplied by the legit company itself, so maybe more like an endorsed homage?

99% are "fake". Who cares. Some chinese manufacturer buys the movement and builds the case, dial, etc. It is kind of an homage to the old originals. The movement is what makes these models so appealing. The fact that we can get a mechanical chronograph for under 200bucks is insane. And I cant speak for all of them, but I own one that costed me 170bucks (acrylic, 38mm, gooseneck movement) and the build quality is great. Everything lines up. It is 1.5years old and it is running great. The supposedly original one goes for over 500bucks and doesnt even have an open caseback - that, to me, kills it.
