Capped chimneys must still allow for some ventilation otherwise the condensation has no place to go and causes damage/decay. Adding insulation to catch the condensation drips just means the insulation will become moldy.

How much do these pieces of sheet metal typically cost like if you went to Lowe's or Home depot? I have an unused chimney that goes down into my master bedroom but it's been boarded off. But because one of the sides is opened there's actually two openings to the chimney but one side is sealed off which looks like with cement and then the other side is opened but I constantly get whistling noises coming down into my chimney from the wind while im laying in bed I can hear it. I mean if they're not too expensive or if there's some other like plastic there's something else I can get that may be cheaper in price that would do the job. I thought maybe getting a piece of wood and putting over it and then put a cinder block on top I don't know if it would be possible for the cinder block to fall off. You would think it would stay.

how about you add concrete on top of the metal sheet and use primer and pint and then add 100% Silicone Tropi-Cool White Roof material on top of all?

Where would the condensation come from? Not saying there wouldn't be just dunno where it would come from. If chimney open, rain can get down.

@@mattysco my chimney is all outside and the inside fireplace was condemened. I put a cap on top and insulation + vapor barrier at the bottom. haven't had a problem but im afraid of futur water infiltration through the brick of the chimney
