Seal release on the Lincolnshire coast

Six new additions joined the seal population off the coast at Donna Nook last week. Electra, Pegasus, Doris, Hera, Pina Colada and Clio are all young grey seals rescued by British Divers Marine Life Rescue from different East Coast locations in Humberside, Yorkshire and Co Durham between November last year and this April. They have been rehabilitated at RSPCA Stapeley Grange and were released in a joint operation involving the RSPCA, the MoD and Landmarc teams at Donna Nook and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust wardens and residential volunteers.
Pig boards were used to point them in the right direction as they came out of the crates, and they all took happily to the water, none of them bothered by the awful weather that made it far more challenging for the humans involved! A couple of resident seals kept popping up in the water to check on proceedings.
The six seals have been tagged so they can be identified if encountered again. The video shows Pina Colada, who was found with a deep wound caused by something embedded around her neck. Like Donna Nook's famous Ropeneck, she will bear the scar for life, but it has healed well and she was passed fit and healthy for return to the wild.
