A few hundred here and a few hundred there adds up in a hurry. The biggest expense I’ve had was $1000 to rent the mini excavator

Best pond or dam sealer is a product called," Dam It"! Seen some other youtubers use it and it works, easy to use and not harmful to fish or aquatic vegetation. Comes in 5 gal buckets like little beads. Just broadcast around the areas where it is leaking.

Man Brock I definitely applaud your effort to help maintain and improve the pond. Those lily's are a major pain in backside. A family member has a huge pond and has the lily problem. They tried to pull them out with a big drag tied to a tractor and dropping with a boat. It helped a little bit but came back. A buddy of mine has grass carp in his pond. He doesn't have any pond lily's. Also he has cows that go in an out. He has lot of turtles tho and they are a pain. There is some big grass growing and the bank edge not really a problem but i have seen the grasscarp eating the grass all around the bank. So idk if this has any helpful information but maybe it will help you.

I've got a prairie dog problem that seems similar to your issue. Tried a bunch of different things to no effect. Hopefully this fixes your issue or atleast gets it to a more manageable level

Howdy Brock. Well... you gotta do what you gotta do. Sounds like you thoroughly researched how to mitigate the lily pad issue, and you have a good handle on how to manage the balance in the pond. I hope it works for you! I don't have a lot of pond knowledge... so I ask this out of ignorance - how did the lily pads get there in the first place? Is it something the previous owners would have had to add? Or can be spread by wildlife? I hope for your sake this won't be a constant battle... Great video as always and thanks for sharing! 🤠

I had some lilies and the muskrats moved in and pond lilies are gone, but rats are still there mining in the banks and the dam. Now trapping season begins so we can address that problem. Then repair areas of damage caused by mining. Not sure of next step. All fun and games!

Never thought about muskrats, that is pretty cool. Though like you said the damage they cause on the banks is likely not worth it.

I’ve seen a few videos of guys dealing with muskrat holes causing serious leaks in their pond One guy will take an unopened bag of quick Crete and smash it down on top of the hole. He said the concrete would harden before the bag dissolved and let the material out. Lazy way to do it but he swore it works Not that it would matter if you haven’t gotten rid of the animals

Grass carp are good for the pond but they not going to eat lily pads. I have craw fish (crawl fish, mud bugs) depending where your from. They will help with eating the rotting plants plus the bass love them. Not sure if that is a possibility or not. So far everything has seemed to work out so I’m hopeful this will as well. Thanks for the video.

I believe he said they were going through a very dry period. Also he said during this time of year its usually low, allowing him to do stuff that requires the low water level.

That’s correct. We are having a record drought and it was leaking. It is is exactly the same level it was at last year right after we dug this expansion. Last year it filled up completely through fall and winter and was going to overflow in the spring. I did not drain any We really need some rain and next week shows 50% chance every day. We will see what we actually get

I would guess that would be a huge chunk of change to part with to go that route. Being somewhat thrifty and frugal myself, I can relate to the approach of trying the least expensive/invasive measures first before deciding to go all in on the big kahuna.

Yeah, I could’ve spent $20,000 and killed all the fish to start over and hope that it was done well. There are a lot of people on KZbin who spent a small fortune having a pond done by professionals and it still leaks If this works then I really saved a lot of time and money but there’s no guarantee of that

I didnt tell you.... you need to go to your local farm supply, a real farm supply. And talk to the old man, tell him what your pond problem is. There is a chemical that you can treat it with...its illegal to use in ponds and lakes but they will sell it to you for its "intended" use. DO NOT show it on camera. But it will wipe out those lilies in a week. And you will have enough chemical left over for a retreat.

When I first got the tractor I bought the 50 gallon tank. Where are you went to a fuel supplier and requested tanks but they had a waiting list. They were supposed to call me back but it’s been over a year I want a 300 and 500 gallon tank on the property although I wish I had got it before the fuel went up
