As a DD player we thank you. I've been seeing friendly cruisers that spawn with me on a flank just turn and leave at the start of the match. They blame carriers or whatever but with no cruiser support, as a DD player, I'm generally hesitant to try to cap since I now have no support. The BBs camp behind an island trying to snipe and keep spamming "I need intelligence data" over and over while we're getting pinged by subs; it's pretty frustrating.

I often play a Mainz, many people like to sit back and just HE-spam with it. I prefer following my DD into a cap and while the enemy DD is worrying about our DD, I burn it down with that Mainz HE and dispersion. Don't often play DDs but do play the ZF-6 sometimes, it has a reload booster and with DD on DD battle, you will usually win with your guns.

I almost started to type more or less the same, but saw your response, so totally recognize and agree as a DD player. +1! 😉💯. This is so recognizable! I really like supportive CC players. And to all non-DD players: if I'm not go capping early game, because of playing a DD with bad concealment, or CC players camping in the back, don't be angry each time that I'm not capping. And learn from enemy teams which wipe you away.

whats frustrating is watching my shells land on both sides of my target while i get hit by 80 percent of what fired at me.Or playing to win only to have my ship detonate with most of my health.The side that gets detonated loses 80 percent of the time

Or even worse, which has been happening to me lately... The battleships spam I need intelligence data as they head straight at a smoke screen in the first 3min of the match and then complain I didn't spot the dd in the smoke as they were getting cross fired by half the enemy team as they're in the cap by themselves.... This happened 5 games in a row yesterday.... Help... 😭

#4: know the enemy As you said knowing your ship is half the battle, and the other half is knowing what the enemy is capable of and how your ship matches up against it. It's a lot of time to memorize every single relevant ship and what they do but it's truly worth it.

The BB playerbase just can't figure this simple thing out. They might go in with the intention of supporting their DD but as soon as a enemy BB pops up they shoot at that and are reloading when the enemy DD pops up inevitibly 2 seconds after they shot. This happens 9 times out of 10. If i'm supporting my DD I load HE and WAIT until their DD pops up and usually take 3-7k off them in one salvo. This again 9 times out of 10 swings that flank in our favour.

1: don't cap till you know where all the radar ships are. Realize that capping is shouting all over the map, hello I am here!!! 2: killing is more important than capping (it's nice to cap but if you only have the cap for 3 min and then your team is dead or fleeing and the enemy has the cap for the last 13 min) 3. Often DDs cap behind a rock and meanwhile the enemy DD is spotting/torping your teammates. KEEP spotting. 4. Good concealment? OPEN WATER is your friend!! Don't be de DD with 5.4 concealment that goes around the corner and runs into 1 or 2 enemy ships like a cruiser. 5. ASSUME the worst, hope for the best. If a (radar) ship is not spotted yet assume it at your cap. 6. DONT GO in a cap too deep in the beginning. if you then get spotted, the enemy ships are 12-14km from you, and the enemy DD is spotted 14-16km from your teammates. You chance of dying is bigger than the enemy DD. 7. DONT lay broadside in the CAP, preff. ass in so you can run away immediately

8 & 9, use Survivability Expert and RPF. Former to not get one shot, latter for even tiny bit of information that will inevitable save you ass, and possibly ruin enemy DD's day if you're running torp boat. I swear, the ammount of Ostergotlands without SE in this ranked season is driving me insane. They rush in, get deleted, and then bitch about 0 support when they have one of the lowest health pools in the game, and are outspotted by every single DD except french and german CL DDs.

Nailed it as usual. The toughest part of DDs for me is that you have zero support when contesting a cap because of the meta of sniping from max range. That also goes pretty much for all classes, because if you push, you are doing it by yourself.

Played two games in tier 8 Japanese gunboat tonight (forget the name, to lazy to look it up). The first match was a win my flank totally supported me, the cruiser, the BB and a sub all backed me up and I was able to kill the sub, do most of the damage to the red DD opposing, and do a lot of damage to the opposing cruiser. Rest of our team slowly collapsed but took enough of the red team with them that even though they lost the other two caps and we were way down in points we were able to move over to B and then C cap. Along the way I was able to finish off two surviving red team DDs and the last red team BB. It came down to 3 of us vs 2 of them. At the end and it was all the guys on my flank. I had a great game, 3 caps, 4 kills, like 12,000 total XP, ranked top player on the team. Second match completely different story. I was able to secure center cap but got NO support. I blocked red DD from scoring it and then he ran and I capped. I did a bunch of damage to a Japanese BB with my guns, multiple fires set but still no support. By this point our team has lost the other two caps. I try to move over to take one of them back but again was not able to secure a second cap because I was chased out by red team cruisers. Again NO support. What's worse is that after I moved out of center cap red team eventually snuck back in and took it from my team. We ended up losing on points and I was top 3 and one of only two ships to survive. The total difference between being supported in a match and not being supported.

Sea Lord, excellent points. The one issue I had was when you used the Holland as your example of a cap contesting dds. I have her, and she is a good cap contester, but there are far deadlier dds to contest caps. To be a great cap contester, you need some combination of a heal, hydro, fast firing guns, and good concealment. The BEST example of a T10 cap contester is the Daring. At T8, the two monsters are the Kidd and the Cossack. There is also the subtlety of what TYPE of cap you are heading towards. Caps with lots of little island cover inside tend to favor the radar/hydro ships. More open caps favor the stealthy fast-firing dds with heals. The nuances of the various dd lines are complex. That's why I'm a proud member of the dd Mafia.

You can also do the "turn around in the cap" method of being stern-in in "large" caps pretty safely. If the cap is 10k across and so you won't run into an enemy DD without knowing they're in the cap with you, you don't need the island cover. Keep an eye out for radar ships, though, and don't go *straight* in; you don't want to have to do a full 180, but coming in at an angle and turning around while you stop is still a lot faster than full stopping and reversing into the cap.

Blow out games are becoming more common because of the excessive amount of spotting that can see the DD. I have a 57% WR in DDs. Everything you said is true, when the other team doesn't have Hybrids, subs and CVs with enough brains to know endlessly harassing the DD wins games for your team. Your DD cannot spot for you when unstoppable spotting is endlessly cycling in.

Nice tips for beginners, but i think you forgot one which is especially important from T8 when everything starts to kill you within seconds: Caps are noobtraps! Rushing into a cap right from the start, as many players demand their DD to do or eat a report, is getting DDs killed or heavily damaged, reducing their further impact on the game. Even if you stern into the cap, most of the time your DD will get radared or spottet by the enemy DD / CV and eat damage without accomplishing anything. Henceforth this is the to do list for DDs during the early game: 1) Spot! Find enemy radar cruisers and spam the focus fire command on them until your BBs get the messge and get them killed or to retreat from the cap. If they instead continue shooting enemy BBs and ignore the cruisers you may just leave the flank. Those people are dumb and don't deserve your help since they wont help you either. 2) Get "your" red DD killed, either by doing it yourself or keeping him lit for your teammates. 3) Get the cap when it is "safe", most of the time no cap is worth a destroyer. People claiming they did their job by getting the early cap, hitting some BB with torps and then die are stupid and you should not listen to them ever! No BB and cap are worth a destroyer! 4) Stay alive! Don't yolo just because you think the game is won. Games get thrown all of the time and your team might need your destroyer at the end to keep the cap advantage. If your health is low focus on spotting and torping if your ship can stealthtorp. No need to int! 5) Report every sub that pings you 6) Press battle and repeat.

Totally agree. I used to be intimidated by BB players that demanded in chat for me to rush to the cap. Since I've adopted the "kill the red DD first" as my priority and cap when its safe my win rate has gone way up.

Personally, I love the gunboat DD drivers who head up a flank off the start, and then pop smoke once they spot a few ships while salivating at the thought of machine-gunning all those hit points only to see their spotting disappear as they cover themselves in their own smokescreen. Cue "I need intelligence" hotkey.

My best ship used to be the Shima, since the CV rework though... it's hard to get any spotting ribbons, and as soon as I'm found or spotted... enemy cv hounds me like a tick... IMHO, CV's right now have made playing DD's or the slower BB's like Yamato brutal to play.

i have been playing on the kagero, for all the day in almost all games went the same with no one giving me any support and the enemy DD's had their whole team helping them, it is kinda annoying that people want me to get the caps or spot someone but in turn there is no support from their part, i have been playing the long game even tho sometimes that means not getting caps and keeping a distance being passive when i can shoot someone it means i can keep trying to get torps on their ships

Cap the flags! Defend the flags! Kill the subs! Spot all the ships! Provide AA cover! The truth is DDs are too much of a Swiss Army Knife, so other players expect too much from DD players. And if you die whilst performing any of those aforementioned duties you will be reported and called brain dead in chat. Personally I tend to ignore chat, if it's not just straight turned off.

There are many bad DD players too. 1 time I was in my Thunderer and tried to support 2 dds, that cap had 4 red ships (later 1 more red dd joined) vs 3 of us. Then my 2 dds over extended., they died and 1 blamed me for that (dude seethed on me whole match too). Pls don't expect good supports on random and try to judge the situations, play safe first few minutes. That help your team a lot too.

You can understand if a player has brains just by watching him play a dd or looking at his dd stats. Same goes for if a player has hands by checking his light cruiser play and stats. Battleships and cv’s on the other hand are easier for everyone to play.

1) the CV ALWAYS spots the middle cap 1st. Don't go there! 2) if there are 4-5 dd/subs don't assume you are alone with 1 dd in the cap. If you have the option follow the dd with bad detection (ie you (shima) follow kleber to the cap. 3) If there is a friendly sub on your side of the map the RED SUB spawned on the same side.

I agree about the guns. Starting a fire at just the wrong time for them is usually a better answer for the team. You might just surprise yourself and win the fight, even if not the whole game. Confidence takes time in close quarters.

Gets pretty hard to win when you go down 3-4 ships in the first 5 minutes. Now I've done my fair share of that, but I've gotten better at not being the first to die. Usually happens when I'm not patient, focused, or in some sort of funk. Going down 3-4 ships in the first five minutes will definitely put you in a funk. Guess I go hot and cold, but when I'm really on, I can have games with 8 kills in an Asashio, or gun battles where I'm half health, but still able to take out a full health DD. You can definitely see a good torpedo boat stalling the enemy push on the flank. It's getting harder though. So many new radar ships, op gun boat DD's with radar and sonar, hybrid ships putting do many planes over the caps. A good CV player will make your game play a living nightmare. Bad enough you have to deal with CV's that drop greater qualities of torpedoes, but have to deal with those annoying skip bombers. About the only piece of advice I can give is pay closer attention to your mini-map, and try to steer away from planes, and try to know the general location of radar ships.

I also ask for support if I see someone hanging back and I’m trying to cap. Blowout matches have also been the norm in WoT for couple years now, we call them 15-1 simulators 😢 They started happening when they made it easier for players to get to higher tiers by providing boosters, etc to speed up the grind. Same has been happening here in WoW and hence when you have multiple tier 3 skill players in a tier 8-10 match....

Agree, but subs can also try to stay within ASW range of their surface ships. At least sometimes this works, especially if the surface ships have a clue. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I SURE wish WG used skill to balance teams better in match making. IMO it's insane that they don't.

Depends on the BB. You know what the range on ASW for a Massachusetts is? Fucking 4KM!!!! I'd have a better chance of ramming the thing or sinking on top of it and crushing it. Other ships aren't as bad but subs LOVE BBs because many of them can't dodge even the non homing torps and have no way to fight back since torp range almost always outranges ASW range.

There is one thing that tells you the match will be a blow-out. The fact that there isn't a skills based matchmaker. Yup, that is why pretty much all games are a blow out. The way the game balances divisions so poorly magnifies this, making blow outs even more common also. The division balance can also tell you at the start which side will win. If one side has a 3 person div, and the other doesn't - 85% chance the 3 person div team wins. Otherwise whichever team has the most div-mates will win 75% of the time. I'm not saying skill means nothing, I'm just saying that skill will typically not help you win. The matchmaker decides who wins. If we had a skills based matchmaker, most every game would come down to skill and focus of all players. Currently if you win, thank the matchmaker, if you lose, curse the matchmaker. Just think Mountbatten - if we had a skils based matchmaker you wouldn't have any idiot DDs on your team. The idiot DDs would be playing with and facing idiot teams, so they would be average-ish. You'd have a smart team with you and against you, the level of gameplay, skill, counterplay, appropriate play, strategy would be unparalleled every game. All the while the potatoes would be learning how to play by improving over their peers, instead of just going back to port instantly and learning nothing.

I am starting to get burned out of the blowouts and other BS crap. As a primary DD player you are right on. Another reason I am getting game fatigue with the game, last week, I had 3 9v9 matches in a row (why I dunno) two matches had 4 carriers and the 3rd match had 4 CV, 2 hybrid BB and 4 subs in a 9v9 and as a DD player I just logged off, and its been 5 days since I played last. This is the exact reason I have not spent a dime on the game in 4 years. I still want to enjoy, but the match making is pure crap.

Best distance to a DD would be that if he gets spotted you get spotted, too... Especially if the DD has good concealment, then he will outspot the enemy DD and you can surprise slap the enemy DD... But all that requires some game knowledge more than press Battle and press W then click enemy... Something about 50% of the players lack

I fully support the view on DD’s. I always use my radar Mino to sneak up with the DD on my team and radar the enemy DD’s my win rate win rate is 58% and I am far from a great player. I normally ask for smoke from the DD player.

I myself am tired of going to support friendly DD's in either my BB or Cruiser only to have them turn and run from first red that shows up only to then be victimized because I can be spotted much easier than the DD's. not really a DD only stuff, but is there ANY reason for DD SUB or any ship that can contest enemy capping a point ( either having low detection range, or hidden by island etc) to stay OUT and let the enemy team claim the cap..? i wish Weegee would give xp and ribbon for when you are blocking the cap . i don t mean reseting the capture with those defend ribbons, but more like staying on it to avoid the other team starting some point, or if they already have claim the point ( and still have a boat on it somewhere) stand on it too , to stop this cap to give point

these are great points for the most part but everybody plays differently.I wanna learn to be a better player and help my team more but i also play to have fun and having fun takes precedence. Everybody in randoms wants somethig different of you and are too competition focused. I'll get better in time and for the time being, I'm there to get what I need to get through my battlepass or whatever it is I'm working on. It's up to the greedy people at WG to change how sh*t matches up and how people are allowed to play the game so some of the pricks in randoms need to bitch at WG and not us newbies. Also for the record, I'll play any ship i have access to whether I'm good at it or not. I'll learn them as I get em but I'm not putting up with grinding ships that I don't like in order to learn for higher tiers. I'll get to the higher tiers with free XP and learn from there if i so choose. I'm sticking my tongue out at those of you who insist that grinding be done a certain way. I like DDs but i never seem to please anybody so fk em!

My advice- get to the higher tiers (VIII-X) and try to skip past the ships that you feel are BS. You'll recognize them pretty quick. Get there and play and you'll figure it out and get better with them. You DO NOT have to learn slower ships with slower turrent speeds and slower reload speeds and sh*tty manuverability in order to learn how to play the faster ad better ships! I agree with a lot of this. I hate grinding with crappy ships. I do my research and know what ships in the tech tree tier line I'm working on and I'm aiming for the ship with the characteristics I'm looking for- best maneuverability, turret & reload speed, HP or gimmicks (Yes i like gimmicks and want them especially in a premium ship). I'll learn and get better on a ship I enjoy- Not on one I don't like. You're totally right- you don't have to learn low tier ships in order to learn higher tier ships. Jump in and swim or drown. You'll learn. I have learned more about how ship xp works and have changed my tactics because of it but WG tells us (if you hover over your green free xp at the top right corner of your port screen) that free xp can be used to research any ship in the tech lines. OK, well listen to them and use your free xp to move up the line faster and skip past the crap. do your investigative research though to know well in advance what you're shooting for in terms of what you want. In terms of some of the randoms players, they can be pricks for sure. Just ignore them when they get mouthy. It's a game and some of them take this waaay too seriously. Also, find a clan in which there isn't any pressure to be competitive in, if that's what you choose. There are benefits to being in a clan regardless of whether you're competitive or not. The TSIOF clan seems to have something for everyone and I recommend a group within that clan but clans are in abundance to get into so you have a plethora of clan options if you hav't joined one already.

also, don't dismiss all the lower tier ships in an umbrella kind of way because there are some great ships in those tiers too, you just gotta wade through crappy ones to find them. Research the ships on KZbin so that you're not making blind decisions with what you're striving for and it'll also help you to skip the crap. the War Gaming company only cares about your money and you can rest assured they're doing everything they can to rob you of every penny they can so do your research and don't get sucked into their money making scheme. They want you sucked in and playing (grinding) as much as possible to increase the profit margin so F the man annd bypass all that as much as possible.

My only problem with DD is when I either A: get spotted once by a CV and focused down by them, or B: surprise there's a sub that can spot me and I get swarmed down because I can't shoot back at him, but he can still spot me. I've died these two ways so many times more than I have to contesting a cap. Of course there's always someone who has been charging past my view screen that blames the DD when we end up losing.

i play mostly dds and i can tell one thing the cv is always the big problem if you are not covered by your cv then forget about capping forget about spotting ships or torps the only sollution is to hide and stay back till enemy cv loses his appetite for you.Also about new players on dds i would say to stop afraid the radar learn how much it hits in the enemy ship and adapt by it.Mostly for me the best player for dd is the player who know his ship and opponent ship who usually take a fight when he choose and most of all he is flexible.Without flexibility you can never become a good dd player.

Nice video but to do those things you must have players that can think that. For example a playr that i played yesterday in 3k battles he does only 15k dmg with all his ships. What i want to say is that all those thing you are telling is right but you need people that can think a little before they play a game

Good tips. However if MM has you as two torp boats vs two gun DD boats, it is a fundamental issue. Also if 70% WR vs 40% WR gets matched up, it is a MM issue really. Until the Match Maker gets a complete revamp that takes other factors (radar vs non-radar ships, skill level to a degree, even number of over all matches?) into account, there will not be a level playing field.

I agree that MM needs a rework, another simple thing they could do is get rid of double uptier MM. A tier 8 can be competitive against a 9 but rarely against a 10.

It called Using BOTS as Spy ships . Look at the accounts that are doing this ! Look at the min map at the start they know where it was safe on your team to go :=) Look at were one of the first DD's on the other side Die :=) The First DD to die on the other team was still seating right by their by Spawn . Just watch the Match on the min map it funny !

OMG IDK HOW MANY GAMES I HAVE BEEN IN THAT WERE LOST DUE TO ME BEING THE O N L Y CRUISER BACKING UP OUR DD'S HELL AS SLOW AS MOST OF MY BATTLESHIPS ARE I TRY TO PUT THEM IN A SECONDARY POSITION TO BACK UP THE DD'S then I'm slaughtered cause everyone is watching both me and the DD' die at or near the only cap we captured. I'm not for the wait and see what they have who they have posture especially if they have just captured 2 caps and cut our field of play down to 1/3 maneuverability space.

Everything in the game now is out to kill DD's. You can do Zero to a sub stocking you, you have planes overhead all game long. everything that hits you puts you on fire. everything has radar and hydro. Like? WTF. Plus most of the DD's don't have a heal.

sorry but today BB and Cruisers , absolute majority of them are all intent to just use the team's DD as meat shield , lures with no shame - and by all account only care to not get into any forward fight which mean they never are in range to give AA , Close support , Fire Cover, and even less Fire Suppression , and even when the DD spot what do the BB and Cruisers do , they farm that enemy BB , not the immediate threat to the DD at the front, the enemy DD , the enemy Radar Cruiser , the enemy SS .... AND as a DD main, my answer is NO , no longer are BB and Cruisers having any reputation nor are to be trusted , the motto is forward and do the DD thing, but if the BB and Cruisers are seen only loitering at the back then forget it, just exit that flank and find another flank that the BB and Cruisers who would fight, and not just farm .. its frustrating today to play a DD when DD are suppose to had the speed ( but know how many cruiser and BB that can now outrun a DD ) , maneuvering ( but then SS can always out spot, out maneuver and then deliver a salvo of torp that literally run circle around your DD ) , and Stealth , well tell me when you almost always get 3 or 4 radar , 1 or 2 SS , 2 or 3 BBV and add the CV what stealth is there to had ... DD can work provided they are provided and today each and every DD are deprived courtesy of all the RADAR, CLAA, CV/BBV, SS, and then all and no less a team of so call teammate BB and Cruisers who all only care to camp, to hide, to farm and never in the open at the front providing the needed support - so all in all you should not be talking to the DD players , DD players are by nature forced to play at the front ( range ) its the Cruisers, its the BB who are the one who doomed their own DD teammates

You can pretty easily tell its gonna be blowout match when 3 or 4 of your teammates die around the 5 to 9 minute mark. Usually DDs of course since they are up front which is even worse. Also YES PLEASE, WOWS COMMUNITY LISTEN TO THIS MAN! Holy Crap, i can not tell you hope often i got for a cap only see none of my teammate have firing angles on anyone opposing me or are ALL hiding behind islands and hugging them like their Waifu's pillow. And i do mean THE ENTIRE TEAM, and they won't even try to contest a cap ether in the worst case scenario and let the enemy team walk all over them. WHY battleships of all things feel the need to Island hug is BEYOND my comprehension. You are a BATTLESHIP! You have ARMOR AND RANGE ON YOUR BIG CANNONS, USE THEM! I can at least understand Cruisers island hugging for obvious reasons, but WHY battleships? Also not to mention BBs are SCARY by their very nature, besides maybe when they are 20kms away sniping but thats whole other matter.

MB some of the worst players in the game choose DD's. Between suicide runs initially or beyond passive play I must have hundreds of DD players blacklisted. Fear the moron in a DD with 30K games played and a 37% win rate. I use to wonder how people had that much time. They don't they just get sunk in under 3 mins each game :) Oh By the way I was in that Rooke in the match you drove the Kidd. Our mini group got two caps and finished 1 and 3 on the scoreboard. It was one of the more fun matches I've played in awhile. T789 match and we ended up winning in a full 20 min nail bitter.
