This is the film he should have got an Oscar for. His performance in The Untouchables is great, but this is superior

Casting Connery is a great example of irony. He became popular as James Bond, the face of British Imperialism. Now here he is, saying that he doesn't give two s***s if it all fell.

Phenomenal actor, this is why I would have loved to have seen Sean star in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Playing Bond in a film which required him to be human, vulnerable and devastated in that last scene with this level of acting would have escalated that (already great) film to perfection. Connery’s collaborations with Sidney Lumet were cinematic gold.
@mohammedashian8094

They never took advantage of his acting chops in all of his bond movies, not to sound rude but what the hell makes you think they would’ve done it in OHMSS? They only did it because it was a new bond and they trying to make him different hence the line “this never happened to the other fellow.”
@captain_morgan4462
@captain_morgan4462 7 ай бұрын
As my comment states, it’s the one where they humanise Bond and would have required a bit more acting. It’s ironic they got an Australian model who couldn’t act in the one 60s Bond film that explored Bond a bit more.

@@captain_morgan4462 I know what you’re talking about. I’ve read the book and seen the movie. If you read my comment again I said it was the Same old same old in his bond films, what makes you think they would’ve given him something different in on her majesty’s secret service?
@captain_morgan4462
@captain_morgan4462 7 ай бұрын
It’s all hypothetical, but what makes me think that is the fact Connery was tired of Bond and wanted to walk, the producers would have realised what a great actor they had and give him more to work with rather than it be another typical Bond film. Who knows, but you’ve read the book so you know it’s book 10 and by that point Bond is also tired and evolves as a character. What makes you think it would have been another typical 60s Bond film?
@captain_morgan4462
@captain_morgan4462 7 ай бұрын
Do you think they’d just cut out the love story/marriage and Tracy dying at the end? And have his Bond shag all the angels of death and at the end floats away on a raft full of women instead?

You know what it is? Connery was Bond. Back then, those people thought that James Bond shouldn't win an Oscar. That's why he won 22 years later. He retired from Bond long enough to be considered a good actor. Of course, I am speaking of his time in the role and not his reprisal in Never Say Never Again.

One of Connery's Top 5 acting performances (my five personal favorite Connery films by acting are The Untouchables, The Offence, The Man Who Would Be King, The Hill, The Name of the Rose)! Criminally underrated at the time, because the studio was only pushing the latest Bond production (Thunderball, I believe)! Thank God, Connery was one of the few actors determined enough to escape their claws, go their own way and push beyond typecasting until he eventually got his overdue recognition as the gifted, committed, versatile actor he truly is.
