Why is it so important for a Jamaican artist to receive a Grammy? The biggest problem Jamaica has always had is to look to white people for validation instead of looking after our own business. It always pains me to see so many of the great artist of the 60s and 70s end up living in poverty, while white owned record companies got rich. Its pure foolishness but its like people still can't learn the lessons from the past....Jamaica created some of the greatest music in history, but tell me, how much did the island benefit from it. Remember because they like the music, doesn't mean they like us...

I hate how they treated Sean Paul during the Grammys. I remember Beyonce was performing "Baby Boy" & then I am looking for Sean Paul to come out & then I heard his verse & then they showed him in the audience. I was so pissed off. A big song like that & they had half of the reason why the song was great in the bench & not in the game performing. Then when he won the Grammy, they said "best new hip-hop artist". I was saying "What??? Sean Paul is a dancehall artist!!" As far as DMX, I think DMX blew stuff out of proportion. Those remixes of "Make It Clap" & "Gimme The Light" was not just a call on Sean Paul himself but also his management & producers to see who would work great for the remix. Busta Rhymes & Sean Paul was a very powerful iconic collaboration. "Here Comes The Boom" was a good song but the culture & styles did clash. The fact that Sean Paul & Mr. Vegas write lyrics about "girls hold your hands high" & then DMX coming with different lyrics about "ripping buttholes out of place" shows that there was a culture clash. Busta Rhymes bridges both dancehall & hip-hop so he fits better with the collaboration. I think DMX needs to approach Sean Paul & talk with him cuz him saying "Sean Paul earned that beef with me" is not something necessary or humble to say or do. Make peace as much as possible. Sean Paul doesn't view DMX in the same aggressive light or lens as DMX views him. DMX & Sean Paul should sit down over some bottles of Red Stripe & talk things out peacefully.

I love reggae and dancehall. Am named after a reggae artist. However I don't know outside the small, but active reggae scene a single album from JA that was considered the hottest album in the US. Or even top ten. Singles they have bin all over the charts. In JA singles have more power. US labels want a full album with at least 3 singles to sign on these days with backing. And it's the label getting the Peas that stuff. Not musical respect. Return on investment. Also consider the revolutionary emphasis on Black upliftment that scares the majority of the country. Funny enough the BEP's first less popular album also had that emphasis. The slight from labels and media rewards aside DMX is a major part of what made Sean Paul big in the US. Belly was his big break here 100%. Doesn't sound like he properly gets that even after recognizing X had just went platinum 3 times with three albums in one year. So even if his reason for disliking Sean P was based on a misunderstanding or bad communication X felt dissed probably because his movie and collab are provably what made him big in the US outside the reggae scene and even inside in really. It pushed deport them way up in the reggae scene. Rap DJ's added these tracks to their club sets. Same for Vegas.
