Classic mini floor pans!
Just about every minis floor pans will most likely suffer rot. Rather than patch I decided to install new floor pans. In this video I show you how I achieved this
Some tools/ equipment I used in this video
Air joggler/ punch: amzn.to/3eOWxjB
Welder: amzn.to/2yIHPKs
Flap discs: amzn.to/3cKeFJm
Cleco clamps: amzn.to/2Kzb1py

Thanks John. I've had to give it a miss over the last few days as we have had nothing but rain and the garage is totally flooded

Thanks for the 'shout out' Sean, things are progressing well on 'Angus'...the floor looks spot on...Think that will be a task on the Jag, when I get around to it....In Spain for a wee while not sure when I 'll be back in Scotland but daughter is about to 'drop' so will make an 'effort' to get back then...as any Grandad would do!!

My neighbour got his 1991 H reg Mini Cooper restored a few years back. Its only got 8,500 miles from new and must be worth at least 10k. The engine has been bored out to 1330cc as well and other things added. It goes like a stabbed rat.

My dad once had a mk1 Mini with the 850cc back in the 70's. He put his foot down up a steep hill and his foot went through the floorpan leaving a nice view of the road. He had to scrap as he couldn't afford to have it fixed.

I wish BMC/BL put a bit more effort into rustproofing their cars. They rusted the minute they were built.
@BMCWorkshop
@BMCWorkshop 6 жыл бұрын
Michael, they certainly did just that lol
@jaggass
@jaggass 6 жыл бұрын
Many ex BL workers told us lots of stories about car production. Some would leave the poor fitting trim, dents etc. By the time the bodyshells were painted they started to rust. You will do a better job than BL ever did once its finished.

Hi Sean, I have been following your channel for some time and as yet, had not left a comment. Gee I like the work you are doing and how you go about it. Your tips and tooling comments are great. At present in Perth (Western Australia), it is 34 deg C..and our winter seldom gets below 0 deg. I am looking forward to the rest of your project. I do have two queries , however; I thought the flange on the floor, fitted on the outside of the toe board and 2;, could you post the details of the air flanger and supplier, please? . I have purchased one here locally, but it is not performing as well as the one you are using. Again many thanks for such an interesting page,

Hey there, I don't mean to mow Sean's grass but if yer 'flange/punch" tool isn't up tae snuff have ye oiled it up right good n proper, those wee air tools need to be 'slathered' in tool oil.appart from that it's a case o ye get what ye pay for, so as long as ye didn't shell a pile out, no harm no foul. Cheers from the Prairies.

I'm going out to my garage to replace the outer sills on my 74. My question is: are there spot welds along the area where the step and the outer sill meet?
@BMCWorkshop
@BMCWorkshop 6 жыл бұрын
Yes and also in between the flutes providing your sills are original. Use a wire wheel to reveal the spot welds and drill them out. After doing this the sill will easily break away

Loving the videos Would you recommend the welder you use for mini restorations and what gas do you use
@BMCWorkshop
@BMCWorkshop 6 жыл бұрын
Scott, I use hobbyweld for my gas, argashield (5% argon from memory) and the welder is just a Clarke 135te. Cheers, Sean
@scottbrown1014
@scottbrown1014 6 жыл бұрын
Does the Clarke 135te have enough adjustment for mini welding and any advice on changing it to larger gas bottles
@BMCWorkshop
@BMCWorkshop 6 жыл бұрын
Scott, when buying a larger bottle all you need is the adaptor pipe which most welding supplies will sell. The adaptor pipe screws in to the regulator then the other end of the pipe pushes in to the welders pipe
