As you get older (much older!) efficiency becomes your friend as arthritis and other conditions rear their ugly heads. Great suggestions here for open chords - thanks! I've been using Gadd9 when switching to, or from, G and C in a similar fashion. Work Smarter, Not Harder! Thanks again, Sean, for what you share. It's appreciated!

STILLWATER crocs sandals have been my constant shoe, dress up or casual, point being there are cool ways to do boring things that ramp up the “uglies” and help shoot you into a new dimension. Love the video and will practice this TODAY! I’ve been doing a bunch of 1 0 0 0 1 0 chords wash ring and pinkie so this is a natural.

Yeah, as a very new player, I find that fingering for G to be rather challenging. I can stretch ring and pinkie far enough, but control in that position is going to take a lot of practice. Probably working on getting the pinkie down on C will be a good first step. I'm hoping this is going to be one of those deals where doing the hard thing first will pay off later. +1 for the comment that chord diagrams would help. Would be nice to pause instead of repeating to follow your explanations. And I wouldn't wear my Crocs to go anywhere, but they do go well with athleisure 😁

Good stuff Sean. It intrigues me when I see bluegrass players, play the big G chord - adding the extra D on the B string and then they play the open C type shape and play the low E string for the alternating bass. I can see why because they want to play with as many open strings as possible for the ringing sound. Got crocs from the family as a gift. Easy to slip into socks or no socks. Loved them. Then told one day they out of style. Kept wearing them until I got a hole in them.

Good stuff. I'm certainly lacking in efficiency. I’m not sure I can totally abandon the other big G fingering though, at least not yet. I like that you can still pivot using the pointer finger. I thought you had to lift it at first but if your pinky is on the same B string it seems you can just leave it on the B string, unless or until, you want to open up that B note.

Thanks for the tips and alternate voicings. The guitar sounds very nice through the mic and I'm glad you used it. I hate the sound of 99% of acoustic pickups. Taylor's system is the only one I've heard that doesn't make the strings sound like amplified rubber bands. I'm sure the croc wearers of the world will take note of the salty comment by a fashionista like you, the note being B# of course. 🙄 I've never worn crocs and probably never will but my best guess as to why someone would wear crocs with socks is because they were uncomfortable without socks and were probably giving them blisters. I agree that the way that they teach guitar or the way that most people think they should learn it without the proper guidance of a pro or someone that’s been playing a long time is completely wrong. You should start out with simple three note triads first of all, and then, if you wanna make them thicker later on, then you can add the bars and all that crap. I’m pretty sure they’re worried you’re going to get better than them! That’s why they teach it the wrong way. Your lampshade is crooked. Seems like your lamp would be the type of person that would wear crocs since those are usually the people that are just kind of outside of any need to fit in or look stylish. They’re kind of just like drunk people you know? If your lamp was a HumanN, it would definitely be a drunk that wore crocs.😂

I was able to do that shape after the first month. I think the bigger problem is most classes shy away from the pinky so much that when you actually need to start using it your pinky is so far behind the other fingers.
