The beginning of the video is when she was 19 and got raped by a music producer. The tall ballerina shoes represent the struggles/obstacles she faced to get to where she is now. Shortly after her rape she got dropped by her first record label and had a meltdown. She then shows us her transformation into becoming Lady GaGa. The end montage at 13:47 shows her struggle to make it as an artist. It shows her carrying her piano down the stairs from her one bedroom apartment on Stanton Street in NYC which is what she did to play bars and clubs, anywhere she could to make her dream happen. Her falling down the stairs again represents her struggle to become an artist. The last scene also shows her struggle with bulimia at that time. The end scene shows her leaving NYC for LA to meet with Interscope Records. The rest is history!

Its autobiographical, the segment on the phone was where the label dropped her and she had a breakdown, at the end on her hand is interscope record and the time of a meeting..... the rest is history!! love your reactions to lady gaga..she really had a great catalog besides her big hits!

Oh man, i've enjoyed every bit of this reaction. I love to see people discover different layers of Gaga. Please... React to Born This Way. I think that after watching Marry The Night, which is very close to her own life, you can get a glimpse with Born This Way of how powerful she can be when it comes to delivering a universal message. It's simply written, but it's an Anthem. Bono sent her a letter where he tells "You outdid them all with this one.".

Long story short, this is autobiographical. She was signed to Def Jam Records first, but she got sexually abused, dropped by the label, left pregnant, and they kept all her music. So she had to start the grind all over again. And then she eventually got signed by Interscope Records who she is with now. It shows her breakdown and picking herself back up, dropping bad habits, finding her team, and continuing on. Your interpretation is also spot on though

9:16 btw gaga said in an interview that for the car scene its started raining out of nowhere and the director wanted to stop the production of filming cause they didn’t wanna risk damaging the cameras. But Gaga said F that it’s free rain let’s keep shooting and I’ll pay if anything gets damaged. That’s some boss shit

While a lot of it has been romanticized for obvious reasons, she’s depicting her life before she became Lady Gaga through her artistic vision. She has been dropped out by her first (?) label Def Jam which is what that phone call is about. It eventually led her to go through a psychotic meltdown. I assume she has blown everything out of proportion in the video because that’s how it felt in her head at the time, and that’s usually how Gaga portrays her life in music videos. The last 45 seconds are very important as they show very short clips in succession on how she didn’t give up and eventually got signed by Interscope Records (the part where she shows the Int Records appointment written on her hand). She called it her most personal music video back then and I’m sure it’s still very relevant today. One thing that’s for sure is that she really struggled to « make it » as a Star, but she never gave up and always believed that was her destiny before even being famous. That’s really what this video is about. Fun fact: before she was even known, a group of people in her high school created a Facebook group called « Stefani Germanotta you will never be famous » to make fun of her ambitions. The rest is History.

the fact that years latter we found out that she was r4pped by a music producer, and got pregnant needing abortion makes the mv so sad and deeper than we thought. That's why the nurse tells her "no intimacy for two weeks" and she says "I'm gonna be a star because I have nothing left to lose".... 😢

Fascinating parallel: Both Gaga and Ariana are Italian [Gaga= Stefani Germanotta), and both actually started their artistic journeys studying/doing acting. They added music a bit later. So it isnt really that shocking that both are amazing actresses... we're just beginning to see Ariana that way now. Her recent night on SNL with so many characters was truly brilliant. Her Jennifer Coolidge had be falling off the bed laughing.
