Searching for Mutton Snapper | Treasure Coast Mixed Bag

June on the Treasure Coast of Florida is an amazing time to fish. I started out the day out of St Lucie Inlet looking for live bait. Within an hour I loaded the bait will with Threadfin Herring, Pilchards, and Sardines using R&R Tackle Sibiki Rigs. My main goal was searching for Mutton Snapper. My Mutton Snapper techniques is to use long flourocarbon leaders and 4/0 Gamakatsu Circle hooks. FisherKing weight clips attach above the leader with enough weight to hold bottom. Baits of choice are live Pilchards, belly strips, and Ballyhoo plugs. The day started slow but I caught a variety of fish including Almaco Jack, Amberjack, Barracuda, Bonito, jumped a Sailfish, and of course I finally found the Mutton Snapper later in the day.

Amberjack! Heck yeah. One of my favs. My personal best was a 52 lb out of the gulf. Good eating! I've never caught a Mutton, but got lots of Mangroves, like everyone else. We'll probably be in Stuart in August so maybe get a chance to fish your waters again then. At least wade fish the flats, maybe.

I do both. I drift when it’s a slow bite looking for a big stray or schools. If the current is under two knots and I’m on a productive spot I use the spot lock.

Drive watch for birds and get over there put a1 once weight on try and stay over balling school find in marina shallower water and look for other boats catching bait JT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐠🎣🛥🌴⛱🙏🏻🙏🏻

Fluorocarbon Sibiki rigs size 4 or 6. First light look for a fleet of boats near inlets on nearshore wrecks
