What to Expect from Your Kenmore Classic Top-Load Washer

Everyone wants to buy a washer, but nobody really wants to change their washer. The good news is that the washer you got from your parents is just fine- and you can expect it to work well for years and years. But if it were really that simple, you wouldn't be watching this video. So what are your options? Do you fix it? Do you buy a new one? And what do these machines even do anyways? This is the first installment in our series about keeping your clothing clean, fresh and socks separate for only $80 a year.

WOW. My washer was new in 1992. I still have it. And I don't plan to get rid of it after seeing these new washers. I'll just keep fixing it for 20 to 30 bucks every 3 to 5 years.

I have both a early 2000's Kenmore 70 series washer and also a 2010 Kenmore compact stack unit. Both of these are the old school direct drive and clean clothes fantastically. I won't ever part with them. It's well worth spending the money to repair them if they break down. I know many people with various types of the HE/Energy Star washers that absolutely loathe them and deeply regret purchasing them.

I bought a new large capacity top load Kenmore washing machine with agitator in 2018. I bought a Kenmore dryer at the same time. They both work great, but the silver/gray area behind the control dials/knobs has some kind of spotting that almost looks like mold. I can’t figure out what it is and nothing I’ve tried so far will remove it. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is important to understand that each cycle has been desired to optimally clean specific load types,

When using fabric softener, you will also need to select the fabric softener switch to ensure dispensing,

If you desire to add an extra rinse, select the Second Rinse with fabric softener.

This is normal and still provides excellent cleaning while saving water and energy.

Followed by a short spin with water entering the wash basket to help knock down any remaining suds.

If you wish to use fabric softener, add the measured amount into the fabric softener dispenser

During the rinse portion of the cycle, you will hear similar sounds to the wash portion as the washer

Depending on low size and final spin speed, it can take up 2 minutes for the basket to come to a complete stop.

This washer acts different because on my washer when you press start on my washer it will just fill up and then lock the lid when it's time to wash.

The combined action of the agitator and basket move the load through the water.

With the Cycle Complete indicator lit, lift the lid and remove the load.

The basket progresses through periods of spinning and coasting to achieve the highest spin speed,

If you need to add a garment after the lid has locked, press the Start/Pause button to pause the cycle.

If there is no Energy Star logo, you can use regular detergent or HE detergent.
