The beaches you can find in Liguria are very narrow and packed during the summer… besides, they’re generally rocky. Tuscany, instead, has stunning wide, sandy beaches that are not necessarily private or packed with tourists if you go down south. Tuscany is my personal favourite. Sicily and Puglia are certainly beautiful, but the facilities are not even comparable to the ones you can find in Tuscany or Liguria. All the friends I have, who have chosen to live in southern Italy, always come to the northern regions for any health problems, I wonder why…😂

do not think buying a Italian house without a lawyer in your language, many cheap Italian homes have outstanding debt, bad construction and wet fungus in the floor, ceiling and walls, property tax is going higher and keep in mind Italy was in high deficit since 2008, still Italy is an EU country with very high deficit which the government will pull up from funds of investors on taxes, and foreign investment

The reason some of these places are cheap is because most of the younger population has moved to larger cities to focus on a career. Italy has an aging population and they aren’t reproducing like they used to. Thats why many of these smaller cities are dying, and cheaper to live. The hope is for investments to hit and revive these communities.

@ExpatTheExplorer6 ай бұрын
Normally I would suggest to contact the agents through a direct message on real estate websites but as I have tried it few times I found out the Italian agents do not bother to reply. What worked for me was to find a Facebook group. I am looking to buy a house in Puglia, I joined few expats FB groups in Puglia and posted a question for trusted real estate agent. People replied with their personal recommendation and gave me few contacts. So try Facebook groups based on region you want to buy a house in. When you find agency, make sure to check their reviews and request a copy of their FIAIP registration. Also, please find yourself an independent real estate lawyer (not one recommended by the real estate agent) he/she will act in your best interest and not for the benefits of agency.

@ExpatTheExplorer7 ай бұрын
Hello Torben, first you should pick a region where you would like to buy a house. My favorite is Puglia region so here is my suggestion: 1. There are flights available from Copenhagen (if that’s where you may be) but from other cities in Scandinavia too to Bari airport (around €50) - 2 hours flight. Cheapest option is Easy Jet. 2. Bari is well connected by train to many other towns in the region. For example train from Bari to Lecce will take around 1.5 hours. Most expats live in and around Lecce town. Or one hour journey from Bari to Brindisi, beautiful town. 3. Puglia has abundance of houses on a budget, the southern part( the boot of Italy) is the cheapest. For less than €50,000 you can get a nice house in smaller town like Oria, Martina Franca or Nardo, all between 1.5-2 hours by train from Bari. I hope this helps a little 😊
