As you said at the end, these cars need to be used and enjoyed. After all the work you have done to get them roadworthy, each of these cars needs an owner who can enjoy driving and keeping them running. Without your skills and dedication, these cars would not be usable, so you can feel proud of your achievement and move on to the next project. 👍

Its the right decision to keep the Princess. They are such a lovely quirky car and the paint even matches your jumper! Also, its only just back on the road and I think you should spend some time enjoying it over the summer, finishing the paint and re-living your childhood for a while. I'd love to find one someday because I also spent 1000's of miles in the back of my Dad's Princess 2200HLS when I was a kid. Every one of those miles was a happy memory🙂

Its always okey to keep a car for a long time and feel connected to it. But there is a greater strengh to also sell later on, you can keep something for 10 years and sell it when you feel that your time with that car is at its end, either by junking it or selling. My father had a volvo v70 (1998). We hade it for almost 20 years, did over 300 000km on it (i had over 550 000 total). My father really liked the car. In the end he junked it, took of the parts to my first car (volvo S70). We polished it up, cleaned the interior on its last journey, a way to give the car a nice last kilometers :). Then removed all the parts at the junkyard. We always keep the plates of the cars we junk, its a way for that car to continue on more kilometers even if its gone haha. I have the plate from that V70 in my "office" right now, that plate will and have continued to travel with me or my father depending on who has it at given time. I know you like to fix them and keep them going forever, and i love that also. I have rescued my saab from certain death aswell as my Hyundai coupe (FX V6). But i will say i kinda like using a car until its lifetime is over, like using every screw and using the engine until there is nothing left. A feeling that the car got great service and served me as a owner many kilometers. Love your videos! Its always fun watching somebody really have a passion for cars. Like M539, that channel gives of the same energy as yours. Keep the videos comming!

All 4 cars are quite different and each have appealing features so it must have been so difficult to decide. I'm really glad that you chose to keep the Princess though, they are rare now and the car has connections to your childhood plus it suits your height / size. It's also so smooth ride & engine sound wise and there's those beautiful seats to enjoy. I was also pleasantly surprised that you get reasonably good fuel consumption on longer runs (11.5 km / litre = 32.49 mpg (Imperial gallons). The secret is of course to go no faster than the 110 - 120 km/hr you mention and to try to coast down to around 64 km/hr (40 mph) where possible before using the brakes by looking ahead. Using that technique I get 61.5 mpg (imp. gals) out of my Mazda 2 (helped by the so called `Smart motorway' I use which makes you keep to the 70 mph limit due to it's speed cameras).

Getting too attached to a car is something I can definetly recognize! I've owned my Mini for 15 years and can't see myself selling it. It's my first car, and I have too many memories touring Europe in it. With that said, who knows, maybe it needs to make way for another car some day! Or else I will have to expand my garage! I fully agree with your choices. I would have kept the Princess and the A112 as well. Looking forward to seeing what new projects will take over from them! :)

I agree with your choices. The Princess is just so 70’s chic and nice and smooth. the Abarth just seems like a riot to drive …and then there’s your personal connection to it. Both are cars I have never seen in the USA. I never much cared for the looks of the 120Y (B210 stateside) and the Niva seems like a great car, albeit rough and gritty, but only if you are using it for its intended purpose

The Princess would have been a major success if it was not for the strikes at the Austin plant. When this was released there was none ready for sale. This was the issue. It also had an issue with the suspension not being built correctly. The car industry actually loved it but even their cars were breaking. So they had to tell it as it was. It was not put together well due to all of the industry action. This is why Ford had major success with the Granada.

Excellent choice! As for the Princess - will you ever find one again if you sell it? I mean, I've maybe seen one Princess once - in my entire life! And I think we all enjoy the cars we remember from our childhood the most. Keep it! The Saab 900 is a p-i-t-a to work with. I have a love/hate relationship with Saab 99/900. But when it comes to do work on them - it's pure hate. On the other hand, once they work they tend to do so for long periods of time. I've owned like 15 BX (!). It is a great car. Very practical. But it hasn't really got the Citroën soul like the GS/GSA or the CX have. Also, the BX 4x4:s have a reputation for breaking down its "fördelningsväxellåda". I've heard that if you do not have tires with more or less exactly same wear, you'll put stress on the "fördelningsväxellåda". Directly translated from swedish that is: "deviding gearbox". You can allways by another Niva. At least in the state yours is in. The Datsun will be harder to find, of course. At least in Sweden it is. A Lancia Abarth is also really hard to come by. So I think you made the right choice here. And the Saab will be a contestor for the Abarth, not the Princess. And you'll sell the BX. That is my forecast! :-)
@SeasideGarage Жыл бұрын
I loved working on my saab back when I had a 900 T16.. but the Commander I own now is a handful for sure! I know about the weak gearbox on the 4x4... but I really like that sort of thing... It gives me time to be in the garage... :P
