Season 9 HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED! - Let's break it down | Project Ascension S9 | Classless WoW

Mcdoubles back again with a brand new video and today Season 9 has finally been announced and it comes with two absolutely banger concepts: Wildcard is BACK and a brand new bit of content is coming called Manastorms.
In particular, I believe Manastorms may end up being the most important and impactful piece of content that Ascension has released in years. I am extremely hype for their existence because I believe if they're done right and properly expanded upon that they will literally change Ascension for the better. With that being said, Wildcard comes with its own host of potential pros AND cons - but it will be fresh, things will get wacky, and I am definitely going to be playing on December 15th.

I've been playing some of the changes on Area 51. The new item system is very interesting. Needs work, you cant see what the stats are on the new enchants until the item is actually rolled for. Dungeon variety is AMAZING because it really does turn into the same like 4 dungeons while leveling.

So I am super hyped for this. Personally I felt like torghast could've been much more than it was, so to see more "endless dungeon" type of stuff is great. And my goodness the build variety! Personally, idc if stuff becomes super broken as long as its fun! So many people go "oh add a bunch of variety just so everyone ends up choosing the same thing" but i mean, that excludes people like me who doesn't care about meta and likes themes or playstyles more. So I am SUPER hyped to mix and match parts of enchants to make my own thing. I wanna make a pet tank build if possible, but who knows what I will roll! When I initially saw the announcement that season 9 was coming up, I didn't get my hopes up cause, in my own personal opinion, ascension wasn't really it. But this has hyped me beyond belief, now im spam messaging my friends screenshots about the announcements trying to see who will game with me on release!

something to remember is that its not just legendaries that are being split into talents and abilities but also epics as well which still leaves us with plenty of room for common and rare enchants but it raises a question is every legendary and epic going to be split like this and what will happen to the worldforged ones will you still have to find them to use the abilities and talents or what?

Original ascension that rewarded grinding for rerolls was the best, and it also made pvp popular as it was the fastest way to get runes back then with a good premade.. Sometimes you would never equip an upgrade because you didnt get a similarly strong RE. So many fun builds, talents, REs and legendary REs werent even required

Everything about this season seems sick. Only 2 gripes are 1. It’s wildcard, and wildcard is trash 2. When the talents and abilities come to Area 52 and other realms, they will have to give us more talents points or it will be super hard to adjust builds around them.

@@zacharyshort384 So you can choose the abilities you want at level 1, only 4 of them though, then as you level you will get random abilities and talents. You can reroll those abilities to try and get ones you want.

Dude holy shit I've wanted a "true" roguelike mode in Ascension (and in a broader sense, WoW as a whole) for so long and this Manastorm dungeon looks like it'll fill that niche in fuckin spades. Between SoD, Turtle, and Ascension, I'm going to have to invent a time machine to have enough time to play all these versions of the game I'm playing 😂 Felforged was neat, but was focused too deeply on PvP where roguelike elements aren't really fun, imo. Torghast was fun to a point, but they didn't go crazy enough with the builds you could play as for every class, leading to feeling a bit shafted on some classes vs others. I think this will be the happy medium between the two - with Ascension's insane build variety inside an infinite dungeon for you to test your might against.

It's 100% random now and all of the legendary enchants have ben divided into thousands of skills and talents. That's still gonna happen according to math, but you will be VERY unlucky if it happens multiple times to you

Yo preach! The RNG punishing "casuals" (defined as "people who dont play at least 6-8hrs a day) was one of my big issues with Ascension for a long time. That and it didnt feel classless: it felt like the new classes were the legendary powers. If manastorm is fun/quasi balanced and you can make decent builds without having to reroll chars with cards and crap, I'd play again. But frankly they'd have to prove they don't just cater to the poopsockers before I considered it.

So I've been watching your vids for a few months, and I actually just recently started playing Ascension. My experience so far has been this: 1-60 = a fucking blast. Soooo much information and things to play with, right from the second you spawn into the starting zone. I was hooked and played for hours. Level 60 didn't come slowly tho. 60-70 = average - below average experience for a private server. The community doesn't seem do to anything. Ever. Besides RDF and BG's/Solo Q arenas. Even during peak times. I'm not sure if there's a channel that I'm not in, or what-- but nobody is ever talking in world chat channels, let alone game chat at all. Secondly, pvp was a huge disappointment. It feels worse than retail. I love playing melee classes, and always will. But it feels like Ascension pvp is NO place for a melee class. Which really surprised me, because I was having so much fun with this Wind Rager build in bgs 1-60. I wasn't exactly deleting people, but my class felt powerful against some of those BiS ranged builds. Then lvl 60 comes along, and I'm hitting people for 90% of the damage that I was at lvl 59. It's like once you hit 60, you gain 1200 resil, and it takes 5 minutes to 1v1 someone. So after about 500 HKs, PvP on Ascension was a no-go for me. I tried bgs and arenas at 70 with s2, different builds, guides, etc-- It's just not fun (at least for melee classes). I really like the High-Risk PvP mode tho, as it let me farm out some Rare quality enchants that work great in pvp, and do a lot pve. Lately, I've been PvEing. It's a lot more fun, since I can see those big numbers. But as stated above, nobody is doing anything. Raids aren't being cleared, it seems. So my PvE experience has been confined to heroic RDFs. I'm sorry for the essay lol. I'm not here to complain, I'm just sharing what I've seen so far over this past week of playing. I'm mostly looking for advice from some veteran Ascension players. Based on your videos, I feel like I'm missing a ton here. I really want to like Ascension because it has so much appeal, right when you make that first hero. But the world feels empty 24/7 (even tho I see people everywhere), and PvP feels like you're fighting with res sickness. I'd love to hear from anyone on this stuff, I'm just trying to better understand how to play this server. (Yes, I've played a number of peak hours, it's the same all around)

I would like to add that stun/cc aren't the issues in PvP. I've been reading old posts on reddit, and it seems like stuns/cc from other classes didn't used to share cd's/dr's. There's still lots of stuns & cc in PvP from what I've noticed, but they're not unmanageable with the right build, and a trinket (the human racial doesn't work for me at all in bgs/dungeons, but seems to work in the open world). It's a damage issue. To me, at least. I feel like I'm hitting a steel I-beam with a stick I found in the woods

There are definately other pastures out there, I like the idea of classless on paper, but if it can't be properly balance so everyone can have fun then whats the point.

My problem is HOW they try to balance the classless. They took out fun ways that different abilities and talents interacted with each other and nerfed some into uselessness, while buffing others to being inherently powerful in almost any build. They should have just left shit alone, and only made small buffs until weak abilities are brought in line. It just feels like a game with 30 classes, because of legendaries.

I was just playing a shadow frost build that uses Lock dots and frost mage CC, got 3 shot so many times it wasn't even funny. Now I'm thinking of unlearning everything and just copying other people. Takes the personal creation element out of an otherwise incredible rpg building experience.

Honestly I feel Iike the system ascension has already was fine. Changing it to make the mystic enchants harder to obtain isn't going to make it more fun. It's going to limit it by gatekeeping them. Like blizzard goes for a project ascension approach for sod and then ascension tries to take from sod? Lol tha hell. Wish they would just focus on conquest of azeroth and developing the already winning formula they had by alexpanding on it.

Didn't get past 3 minutes into the video. They went the exact opposite of what I was wanting to make me touch Ascension again. Staying random draft and then going even further to make it impossible to get the perfect build you've theorycrafted before ever creating the character and as usual pushing for the constant prestige re-rolling bullshit. I just want another fresh, free pick server set in vanilla Era so I can plan out a build, make the actual character without RNG being able to fuck me, and focus on end game of raiding and mythic +.

I'd rather they got rid of LREs altogether for this season than split them into hundreds of "new" abilities. All this does is greatly bloat the Wildcard system and make the RNG much worse to deal with. It's gonna end up being too difficult for new players and too much of a timesink for people who don't wanna put all of their playtime into Ascension. Edit: Talents are gonna be RNG as well? Oh, yeah, I'm definitely skipping this one.

I feel your pain when you talk about getting waterbreath and moonglade TP every single level, but in S9 it will be a pain in the ass to get your abilities to at least be good, not even talking about synergizing.

Ok So the servers are up. People are playing, and a good number are huffing copium in dangerous amounts. On paper all this sounds really cool, then you start playing it and get 4 bear abilites without bear form. Ok you think maybe this salvagable. Oh then you get abilities that require spirit to be your main stat. Ok right we can get through this and then while having 0 combo generators you get nothing but combo spenders till 60 where you then prestige to do it again and probably slip them a $10 so you arent pulling your hair out by the end. All in all the season could be great if theyd stop pretending that they havent made some glaringly obvious design mistakes with some of these changes
