Watching this game again reminded me how much I love the implementation of Yndrasta in AoS. While the new stuff with the Stormcast feels neater than I was perhaps expecting, not only does Yndrasta remain a force, but it is one of the best incorporations of character feel in the lore to actual gameplay mechanics.

GW really dropped the ball with Yndrasta as a character. The Stormcast still lack a recognisable 'face character' as Marines have with Guilliman (and specific Chapters with particular characters, usually Chapter Masters). Yndrasta is highly distinctive as well as being the face art of AoS 3, an excellent opportunity to cement a 'face of the faction'. Great, where do players drawn in by her go to get the model and learn more about the character? Well, um. She's a push-fit model from a few expensive bulk-packaged sets. As for lore, she was missing in action for the entire edition after being introduced as Sigmar's beast-hunting Mortarch-equivalent and didn't even get a short story, let alone a novel, until very late in AoS 3. Sigmar's premier beast hunter, unleashed to chase down Kragnos, never interacted with him and left dealing with him to Kroak, Alarielle and the dragons. And so far as we know, unless there's any new lore for her in the new book, she's still knocking around in Ghur having nothing to do with ongoing story events. To add insult to injury, for much of AoS 3 the banner character representing AoS on the GW webstore wasn't a Stormcast at all, but Teclis.

@@philipbowles5397 To me it's a bit more complicated. Like I agree that more could have been done with Yndrasta, but rather it is a symptom of a larger problem with how they are approacing lore in AoS. Essentially the core problem is that while the AoS books have generally been excellent, GW kind of wants the truly epic stuff to happen in tournaments to the degree that they don't even afterwards publish books about all the insane stuff that happened during these large conflicts. As a result, it is hurting them from really establishing any truly epic characters that define the setting as while there are epic moments in AoS, there really aren't epic stories.

@@toniviskari417 In both 40k and AoS they've developed an odd pattern of introducing the edition's story event at the start of an edition and then ignoring until they pick it up in the end of edition campaign books. But the settings certainly aren't short of faction- and setting-defining characters: that gave us the centrepiece models from Alarielle onwards, and prompted the return of Primarchs in 40k. They provide a good marketing tool as they're a shorthand way of showing off the aesthetic and general tone of a faction: you look at Teclis and see a wizard lord, at Alarielle and see a fairy queen etc. It's just a persistent oddity that Stormcast specifically don't have one (Krondys doesn't count as he isn't a Stormcast, just their most prominent battlefield ally). Alarielle, Morathi, Nagash, Kroak, Archaeon, Gordrakk, Tahlia Vedra and Teclis define their factions and significantly impact story events. Katakros, Neferata (and Mannfred, though he's more a foil to Neferata than a main character in his own right in AoS) and Ushoran are Primarch-like faction leaders, the sort of role Ushoran could have filled. Skaven now have Vizzik Scour. GW seems to have tried that with the Stormcast a few times, but nothing has ever stuck: Vandus was absent for an entire edition; Gardus is just a foot hero and not especially well-recognised; Naeve is another foot hero. Yndrasta and Ionus have really been the only Stormcast with centrepiece potential, and Ionus doesn't really have the narrative role needed to characterise a warrior faction as he's a support priest both in lore and in game.

They just need to make them prohibitively expensive if they aren't willing to adjust their rules. Honestly, I think all of the vanguard units should have a special rule preventing them from reinforcing. It would be thematic as fast moving hunters.

@@biowiener7825skaven has problems but list building is not one of them. You can literally slot in any unit with a 120 point ultra efficient wizard. List building is very easy for skaven

Because covering fire ability target your unit do a shooting attack vs the closest enemy

10:11 the knight Had to fight the gnawwhole First If He however killed it sce wouldnt have Scored a battletactic. You cant Attack the Air. Just a quick reminder. Jordan explained it later but can you Pick nothing as the target for the fight ability?? 35:23 translocate is answered on a 4+ offturn you need Points or Roll a 5 since you get -1 to pray and you rolled a 4 i think with No Points in the bank. Thanks for the feedback! You can use a fight ability if you are in combat OR charged, so yes 100% legal and correct! I'll have to double check the translocate thing when I'm at my desk. Cheers!

skaven have always been known for their ranged weapons and steel guns. Trying to have stormvemin + character as the main source of damage is interesting but not effective in the current meta. However it is fun and keeps the rats from being monotonous, I also often play the skaven no gun side which is a loss but fun

Some Skaven points are just way off for the warscrolls... There's some good stuff in the book, but all the big monsters etc just don't add enough value

It's very true. The value of being able to bring back infantry really makes it hard to want any big boys. They are going to have to drop points on a lot of things to see them hit the table.

I played a few games with Vizzik and a pretty similar list that showed here ( 6 Rat ogres and a Warpseer instead of one of the vermins block, the grey seer and Krittok ) and BOY DOES HE FEEL EXPENSIVE I have hope that he's a good unit, with a really good warscroll and that he can punch thought low armor targets ( I got him to deal 17 wounds into a bloodletters pack and it felt amazing ), but LORDS he's 100ish points too expensive and that's infortunate. Really hoping for some points reduction

Charging in Vizzik for that battle tactic seemed like a waste, it left him super exposed and not like he is very durable. I didn’t really check if there was another better one but I bet there was one. Maybe bubble wrap him with clanrats next time and slow progress down a flank. Also I’ve heard that point for point running clanrats is better than stormvermin although it made sense if you are running krittok. But even him I’m not convinced by

Unfortunatly yeah for very similar points cost 40 clanrats are better that 20 vermins when getting the filth crust prayer, especialy if you boost them with skavenbrew. But... I dunno it feels meh in my opinion and I'm all in for stormvermins.

Great game! I was interested to see how the Ratling guns did, they seem like one of the best units in the new book. Iradan looks cool, the free retreat seems great for snagging objectives (BTW they are nonbinary so they/them not he). Also glad storm vermin are good again, gives me an excuse to paint up another block of 20.

In the novel "Skaventide" Terminos also uses They/Them. They're nameless and their mask seems to shift to mirror the visage of the stormcast they're about to axe. In the book they never take off their mask and are separate from the rest of their host. The gender is unknown, so we can't say anything about being non-binary. It seems like a thing going for these ruination heroes.
