@SeasonofWar I think you're incorrect about the 'minor error', unless Warcom's description was incorrect: they stated that wizard level is " a number in brackets that determines the number of SPELL, UNBIND, and BANISH abilities that they can use per phase", which as worded seems to mean the total number of combined casts and unbinds (and indeed banishings) you can use a turn. In most contexts that means a Wizard (1) can use one spell in your hero phase and one unbind on the opponent's exactly as in AoS 3, but with Magical Intervention you do need to cast one fewer spell if you want to have an unbind available.

@@IbragimKastBsd No, that was an always implausible rumour that was spread due to incomplete information about how the charge ability worked, because the rules for Forward to Victory were shown first with the timing "You have declared a charge", even though Warcom stated outright that the ability worked the way it did in AoS 3. Not surprisingly, the definition of declaring a charge in AoS 4 includes rolling the dice, so you'll see the result before you have a chance to use the command.

@@erschamp ah, thanks. Honestly that makes Magical Intervention seem much less interesting. Not just is it always going to run up against a free unbind roll from the opponent, it means you can't hold up the threat of using it tactically to prompt an opponent to hold a cast back - and, conversely, as the active player you don't need to weigh the tradeoff of a cast vs an unbind opportunity.

Just a note, unless I'm reading the manifestation rules wrong, the barricade would have trapped Morathi in combat so she wouldn't have been able to attempt a charge T1. You can move within 3" of them in the movement phase, but if you do, you're stuck in combat in the charge phase. She failed anyway so it didn't matter, but the fact that the static manifestations (and faction terrain) trap someone in combat starting in the charge phase is something that is going to catch a lot of people out.

@@assistantref5084 Manifestations with movement 0 seem to have unique exceptions to several rules - the Goonhammer article summarises: "If they have a movement value of 0 (displayed as ‘-‘ on its warscroll) they are only treated as units during the charge and combat phases. Enemy units can shoot them, charge them, and fight them but do not count them as a unit for purposes of setting up units meaning you can teleport/deepstrike right next to them and do not have to retreat from them." I'd have to go back and watch, but I assume Morathi moved away from it in the movement phase and, because this doesn't count as a retreat, she could still charge.

@@cs4805 I think the hint is being made that this portion of the rule has changed from what is printed in the book. Another creator suggested the same thing, that it would be FAQed to not count as a unit in the charge phase. It would make a lot of sense as a change, making them a lot less risky to cast since they wouldn't give your opponent a charge slingshot any more. Right now with the rules in the book they're often a liability to cast, especially against an army that has deepstrike or teleport.

Great battlereport! I think the smaller objective size is a huge improvement. Maybe they should change the catch-up mechanic for the double-turn, e.g. when you're the underdog and down more than 5 points, you can take the double turn and still be allowed to do a battle tactic

I think Spearhead has something like that too. If you are down by enough you can draw cards even if you take the double. Would be great in the main game.

I was saying that the double turn is dead as a come back mechanic. This game def showed that. Making a comeback when you’re down will be very difficult in 4.0 I think.

Hey really love the content and hope the new Edition Brings lots of new people to the channel. For how much little things have slightly changed there were very little mistakes confusing old and new! One thing that I would wish for though would be a Separate Dicetray with camera on it if possible. I know it adds a lot of work but I think it also greatly benefits following the game and feeling with the Dicerolls. Maybe more people feel the same

Jordan, Something to consider for next time on this battle plan. The wording specifically says the underdog CAN choose to change the central objective to be a home or flank objective. This means you can choose neither as well. If it's neither, it stays as a 1 point scoring objective. That may have helped you force your opponent into different positions that you could then use to your advantage and deny points as you were saying. I think going first on Focal point is the right play.

Really great battle report! Only thing that didn’t feel great was when Jordan was speaking about some results being disappointing. Started to lean into feeling like being a bad sport via complaining about dice rolls, which is usually a feel bad moment for the person on the receiving end. Just something you really shouldn’t do in terms of sportsmanship. However! I do like how he explained what made it disappointing, so it would be cool to reframe that as “this was an important point in the turn because x”, lean more into it being a learning moment rather than a disappointment. Just my two cents!

Great batrep, thanks guys. I think Jordan had some rotten luck in key moments. Otherwise armies seemed pretty balanced. I am a little concerned at how oppressive covering fire can be on these elite shooting units, it did the most damage of everything and really gave a chance for JF to interupt Jordans battle tactics =/ Concerned about DoK snakes, IDK, Lumineth and of course KO!

Great game. So far I am disappointed with the change to the priority roll rule. For a lot of good players the double turn was an essential comeback mechanic that you can play into. This left play to games that otherwise can get out of hand, or be basically 'decided' at an early point. Now they just entrenched the double turn as something that only makes sense as a round 2 or 3 move to table your opponent - which is the way it feels the worst. It's hard for it to be a round 4 or 5 comeback. That's just a bummer.

FEC seemed to be scoring using AoS 3 points, unless this mission's scoring is different from what we've seen from others - it's now apparently typically 2 points for each of 1-2-more (and 4 for battle tactic), which seems to be how the DoK scoring was calculated, so at the end of turn 1 Jordan should have had 4 points rather than 2. Somehow they had 11 points on turn 2, which isn't possible barring mission rules since everything scores in multiples of 2.
