So you didn't have to drill a hole in your door lock for yours to fix? As it's a little daunting drilling into it. My driver door is playing up but i can still open manually by inserting key to door from outside. Considering just spraying wd40 onto the side of door without taking trim etc off

I got it sorted without drilling, on my car (2011 Finnish Seat Leon Cupra R), all I had to do was remove the rubber grommet with the indentation on the side of the door adjacent to the lock, and underneath is a plastic circle with a screwhead slot. You simply turn the slot left and right, and also lock and unlock the car from inside. I did this a few times and hey presto, the passenger door now opens without any problems.

Very interesting video. Thanks. I have a 2009 LEON 2.0 FR and recently have been having problems with being unable to open some car doors. I had the actuators on the two front doors replaced at £300 each. Now I have temperamental issues with the back doors. However, I have not done anything yet to get it fixed. Now I can't lock the near side back door. Any thoughts about what I can do without spending another fortune? Thanks.
@NorthCoastWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, cheers for watching and commenting on the video. Yes, you can try the same technique on the rear actuators too. Although they normally give the issue of not opening from the outside, there are other times they won't open or lock from the inside. If you pop off the inner panel of the rear door card (it's very tough to pull out, but it will come out eventually) then look inside , up towards the actuator, it's just the same thing as the front. Drill a small hole very carefully into the top, spray in some WD-40 and hopefully after a maximum of 24 hours it'll be working. If you can see any part numbers while you're there, take a note of it, and if it doesn't start to work, u could order a replacement from eBay, they're about £35 2nd hand. And if u weren't keen on fitting it urself, I'm sure a local garage wouldn't mind. Hope that's of some help for you 👍🏻
@GaryMoore-nw3gn Жыл бұрын
Hi Kev, do you have a link to where to drill on the back door mechanism? TIA
@NorthCoastWorkshop Жыл бұрын
It's been that long since I did the back one, I can't quite remember. But I think there's a similar looking bit that sticks out away from the rest of the unit. Drill the hole very carefully into the top of this to get WD-40 into it and again it should start working from between 2-24 hours later

I have this problem but with my rear driver side door. Any help would be greatly appreciated

It's pretty much exactly the same method, just it'll be a slightly different angle because of the shape of the door. Again though, remove the smaller panel, and drill a small hole at the top of the module and fill with WD-40. Worked on my rear door a few years ago, and has worked perfectly since then 👍🏻

Hi Ömer, I think once that happens the module has completely failed and will need replacing I'm afraid. They range from about £25 for a used unit to maybe £60-90 for a new one. Worked for me thanks, I was hoping / dreaming it would cure at the same time the issue I'm having with the car randomly locking and unlocking itself whilst driving also the radio will turn off at the same time as the locking / unlocking happens, any ideas what that's all about?
@NorthCoastWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, good to here it sorted the non opening issue, but sorry to hear ur still having further electrical issues. There's a self lock function in the menu on the Speedo in some models, which may be activated and that's locking ur doors while moving, but that wouldn't explain the radio issue though. Maybe someone has messed with obd coding previously in the car before you had it? Or has it suddenly just started doing this? Maybe there's a damaged area on the loom somewhere? I'm afraid I'm not too sure exactly what it could be, sorry 🙁
@stephen3654 Жыл бұрын
@@NorthCoastWorkshop yes it's one that self locks at around 15mph and yep it's just started doing it (I've had it over 10 years) it can suddenly decide to unlock for example going 70 down a motorway and lock again randomly and it usually coincides with the radio turning itself off, I can turn it back on and it might turn itself off again after a few seconds. Then it might not show this problem for weeks. I've searched online for it and seen it's happened to a handful of owners but there has been no remedy for it, some have suggested a switch issue, one has pointed out its worse after rain which I 'think' I can confirm and so probably an earth somewhere. One thing I wonder about is the switch on the centre column with a picture of a key on, this I believe lights up when it automatically locks as it should at 15mph to show it's locked, and I can unlock it at this switch at anytime but I've never been able to lock it at this switch and I would expect to because after all there is no other way of locking the doors if say you're about to get murdered by someone outside with a knife, this switch has never been able to lock, I'm assuming it should yes?
@NorthCoastWorkshop Жыл бұрын
@@stephen3654 yes it should lock and unlock from that switch, so that would be a starting point, but yeah if rain is making the issue worse, it could be the wiring under the bonnet getting damp and triggering actions that it shouldn't. Electrical issues are always the worst, mechanical issues are a piece of cake compared to them.

Appreciate the comment Tony, yeah on some occasions something like that may solve the issue. The majority of the time, when I looked further into it, was the failing of a microswitch, that the wd40 seems to free up, and keep it working for just a wee bit longer. @NorthCoastWorkshop Жыл бұрын
The rear doors will be the same issue as described in this video, and can be sorted with WD-40 also, exactly the same process, you just have to remove the door card insert 1st. The front doors I'm unsure about. Trying the method in this video won't do any harm, it might sort it, but it might not. But worth a try 👍🏻

@@NorthCoastWorkshop yeah it’s my drivers side door. Not locking when I click the lock button on the key and when I manually lock it with key and try and unlock it with button it doesn’t unlock.

Is it the same for the back door?
@NorthCoastWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Hey Nesius! Yeah, near identical. Remove the inner part of the door trim, Nd the lock is tucked up at the rear of the door. A little tighter for space, but can still be reached. Very very carefully drill a small hole in the top, WD-40 sprayed in and give it up to 24 hours to hopefully find it starts working again 🤞🏻

I have a seat altea 2008 when I start the car the petrol gauge works then a few minutes it shows empty turn the car off then on again it works then goes off ,???? Any idea please
@NorthCoastWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like the fuel sender unit is on its way out. It may come as part of the low pressure fuel pump as well which could make it expensive. Try to see if it does the same thing with just the ignition on, but don't start the car. If it does possibly it's an electrical fault/relay, which would be a lot more awkward to trace. At least if it's a faulty sender unit, it's easier to switch out for a replacement.

I have a seat leon from 2009. The passenger door front won't close. Can you help me please

When you mean it won't close, do you mean it won't stay closed? (So you try to slam it shut but it just bounces open again?)

Hopefully should be, majority of doors work after trying this method, let me know how you get on 👍🏻

Well, i tried this and it unlocked it pretty much immediately. The issue is now it won't actually lock. I hope it doesn't have anything to do with me drilling too deep, or soaking it with too much WD-40 😬
@NorthCoastWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Drilling too deep usually means it will stop working completely, so I don't think you've done that. Too much WD-40 isn't an issue either, as when I do mine it's pretty much flooding out the hole at the top . Give it a little time, they sometimes sort themselves out and work properly, or the unit itself may have been too far gone and a 2nd hand unit is required. New ones are extortionate, so I'd recommend 2nd hand from a reputable seller. But yeah fingers crossed it just begins working properly v soon 🤞🏻

@NorthCoastWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
@@waqzh6128 not 100% sure. The FR's are good looking cars, the 550 I think was a limited edition, only a few made (maybe 550),think it came with a few standard extras. The CR170 engine i think its called, is the good all rounder. Tuneable, good economy and very good standard power. You planning one??

@NorthCoastWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Let me know how you get on Tony, as for the doors locking my car has an auto lock feature that's enabled through the settings on the dash, which locks doors once the car is up to a certain speed. Could be a similar setting to urs. If it's just the rears and not the fronts locking, I'm not too sure of what it could be I'm afraid.
@tonymaxwell949 Жыл бұрын
@@NorthCoastWorkshop yes mate the rear doors click as if trying to lock , they lock but if I pull door handle twice they open from inside
@NorthCoastWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Yeah that sounds exactly the same as the auto lock setting, but only difference being all 4 of my doors lock, which is strange how urs is just the back ones. I'm unsure why that might be I'm afraid.
@stevelives123 Жыл бұрын
Worked perfectly on my 2009 leon. It initially made things worse as the lock stopped locking as well as unlocking but within 10 minutes it was back to full working order. I was also able to get the trim off with just a flat head screwdriver.
